yoshi Posted January 10, 2019 Report Posted January 10, 2019 Viva Mexico! WELCOME/BIENVENIDO! The world-famous standard & ode to The Donald welcomes us 'Down Mexico Way', to one of the world's most remarkable ancient cities - Teotihuacan! Every four years, these pre-Columbian pyramids serve as the starting point for the Pan American Games torch relay, & right now, they see the beginning of something different - the 12th annual GamesBids Summer Olympic logo comp proper! I say proper because it has already started. In Switzerland, we had a special voting round to determine our shortlist - I am pleased that nobody overshot, so all votes are valid, & the all-important results (in order of votes received) are: C: 0 A:1 B:1 G: 3 E: 4 F: 4 H: 4 D: 5 I: 5 J: 5 As you can see, that's a 3-way tie on 5 votes, & on 4 votes too. So, I'm going to use my right to amend the 'cut' to put all three of the 4-scorers through. Logos D, E, F, H, I, & J will thus contest this first regular round. It does mean we sadly lose @Utkarsh Verma's Mumbai, @Glacib's Mumbai, & both of @Sir Rols' entries. Glacib still has his Mexico City, both Utkarsh & Rols - better luck next time. So, with that now settled, it's time for the traditional voting system to bring us our winner. Here's a refresher on the rules (If you only voted in the summer shortlisting so far, read carefully - these rules are different): This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 9pm UK time, Saturday January 12. Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count. Your vote is public and can be seen by all. Entrants MAY vote for their own logo if they wish. For transparency, I will not vote unless required to break a tie. Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of January 1 2019 with a bona fide posting record. I will rule on the validity of any suspicious or disputed votes, or who constitutes a bona fide voting member. I will not vote in this, or any subsequent rounds. However, if a tie-breaker vote is needed, I will reserve my right to vote in order to break it. Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT So there we go - time to get eliminating. Unless we get a majority in this round, we will gather again in India for Round 2. In the meantime, may the best logo win! GOOD LUCK!
krow Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 totally forgot about gb for ages, and never dreamed you'd be able to put together a logo comp this year, so i've missed a lot. paul's entries were all excellent, both summer and winter, but i went with C. in general i prefer the mexico logos to the mumbai ones although D, the chicken giving the OK sign with its wing, is sort of appealing.
yoshi Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 Ah, you misunderestimated us I know it’s nothing like as vibrant as some previous editions, I know that, but then neither is the board. Heck, it’s bid book day today & you wouldn’t even know it - go back even 3-4 years & the whole forum would’ve been buzzing. But we’ve got a reasonable field, some voters & lots of worthy designs, so in this climate it’s a success PS - don’t forget to vote. 1
yoshi Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 Half time voting call - plus bringing us back to the top of the recents
JDCLauron Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 Hello! Here, I designed a few Olympic "posters" to go with my Mexico City 2032 logo! (Hope I got the translation right...)
yoshi Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 Votes closed. Proceed to the Taj Mahal (real one, not the takeaway) for Round 3.
