Getting that piano out here was a trial, but it'll be worth it - ladies & gentlemen, Sir Elton John!

WELCOME/Қош келдіңіздер!

He may not be Kazakh, but his song is very appropriate for where we are - the oh-so-scenic surroundings of the Baikonur cosmodrome!

We have made our way to the other country involved in this winter vote for Round 2, but first let's take a look at what happened in Lausanne in Round 1:

A:4 B:1 C:1 D:0 E:3 F:0.

9 voters, meaning we'd need 5 votes for a majority, which has not been obtained. As such, we will eliminate the lowest scorers & proceed. As you can see, two logos share that honour with 0 votes. Taking precedent from previous IOC votes in which multiple candidates got 0 (& to avoid dragging this out), both of these nul points scorers will be eliminated.

We thus say goodbye to two of Zurich's logos, from @Glacib & @paul. Both members still have their Almaty logos in, & Zurich still has one candidate. We now proceed to Round 2, with four candidates:

So whose logo will soar like Gagarin to the stars Round 3, & whose launch will be aborted? Round 2 will decide.

  • This voting round will be open for a little under 48 hours - it will close at 9pm UK time, Saturday January 5. (The first couple of rounds will be open a bit longer to get as many votes as possible. Oh, and to give Krow a chance to do a red carpet review of the entries.)
  • Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner.
  • In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll.
  • Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count.
  • Your vote is public and can be seen by all.
  • Entrants MAY vote for their own logo if they wish. For transparency, I will not vote unless required to break a tie.
  • Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of January 1 2019 with a bona fide posting record.
  • I will rule on the validity of any suspicious or disputed votes, or who constitutes a bona fide voting member.
  • I will not vote in this, or any subsequent rounds. However, if a tie-breaker vote is needed, I will reserve my right to vote in order to break it.
  • Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT

That's all from me, time for democracy to take its course. Unless we get that coveted majority, we will reconvene in whichever country is most appropriate for Round 3 on Saturday. Thank you once again, & as always, may the best logo win!

GOOD LUCK/Іске сәт! :)

here's is the inspiration behind entry D...an attempt to combining some of Almaty’s most iconic elements in a unique and dynamic winter composition.

The Apple Tree is a central but subtle figure. Wild apple forests that grow in the near mountains are the origin of all apples which was confirmed by the first complete sequencing of its genome.

-An Apple Tree in winter is formed by the negative space of the logo, this central branching element creates a framework for the other components, a subtle but prominent reference to Almaty’s proud apple provenance.

-The chevron pattern has multiple references:

1) Wheat, agriculture and prosperity. (Kazakhstan is one of the world’s top grain producers)

2) A modern tower or city…Almaty is Kazakhstan’s larges metropolis and the cultural hub of the country.

3) Nature and The Environment: The sky and majestic nearby Trans-Ili Alatau mountains are reflected in a gradient winter color scheme.

-Simplicity + Tradition / the streamline logo is intentionally modern to contrast with a look-of-games that would explore the regions rich design history of textile patterns and intense colors.

I have a couple little drawing to post of the look etc in a bit....

...good luck to all!
