There was no alternative. Clearly the USOC is banking on the current pair of 2026 bidders to fall by the wayside and they want to be ready. In a different time and place, they could have given Denver a longer look. Right now, the only sensible choice was Salt Lake, even if they're essentially putting up the same plan they used for 2002
