...here's the really cool athletes village form Montreal.......the pic is taken 3 months before the Olympics!:o Where would a Winter Village be and wouldn't it be super expensive? I'm not feeling this idea of Montreal putting their hooks into Lake Placid just to have an opening ceremony and ice events. Can't imagine any Montrealers would be interested.

here's the article the pic came from.....talks about the late preparation due to Ottawa wanting Toronto and providing late funding.

A tale of two Olympic cities: Montreal feels some of your pain, Rio

“The powers that be in Ottawa did not want Montreal; they wanted Toronto,” Pound said of the initial bids to the Canadian Olympic Committee, which also included Hamilton. “There was a feeling in Canada that Montreal had already had its big party with Expo 67, and that no federal money should go into (a Montreal Olympics). That reluctance to put in money led to compressing what should have been a six-year project into three years, and that led to all the construction scandals and cost-plus contracts.”

No, but my point is that speed skating is a similarly fringe sport. If someone stepped forward with the money to turn an abandoned warehouse or factory into a speed skating rink as happened with the velodrome, there would be plenty of people to block that as well. Finding land and local political support is an additional hurdle for the organizers to clear in New York City beyond fear of financial losses and distrust of the IOC.

There are couple of Warehouses across the road from the Montreal Olympic Park which could be turn into a complex and have the Speed Staking venue inside one of the Warehouses with some shops at that build and the other Warehouse could be turned into a new Convention centre the temporary media and broadcasting centre.

You haven't answered the political issue though. Why would the USOC want to team up with Montreal when they can host the whole thing someplace like Utah?

^He doesn’t care about any political considerations. All he cares about are technical plans & throwing darts at a board, hence his nickname - dart boy. He reminds me of Lord David. All he cared about was bid books & calculating out all the technical aspects. Any other serious & consequetial considerations, be damned.
