Olympic Ceremonies Production Companies

It really varies and to isn't always one company.

The ones that come to mind that tend to be regular players around the world

- Spectak (more so in the past and hasn't done toooo much recently. Most famous for Sydney 2000)

- Jack Morton Worldwide (The Commonwealth Games tend to get stuck with this mob nowadays , however had also produced the likes of Athens 2004)

- David Atkins Enterprises ( Vancouver 2010, Doha 2006 etc )

- Don Mischer Productions (Atlanta 96 and involved with Salt Lake 2002)

- 5 Currents ( headed by Scott Givens who cut his teeth in card students. Involved with London and Sochi)

- Ballich Worldwide (Rio 2016 and Torino in it's previous names of Filmmaster Group)

Pretty sure those are the main ones around. It's also becoming a little more common to have 2 production companies coming together to form a specialised ceremonies company (which in a way is what happened in Barcelona ).

/\/\  Yes, it seems that the first 3 (Spectak, Atkins and JMWW) have slowed down a bit.

There's also:

- Cirque du Soleil  (uncredited consultant for Atlanta 1996 and openly produced Toronto 2015);

- Betty Productions (by Catherine Uguwu, Exec Producer).  Baku 2017 was her company's first major production but she was a top producer on the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 teams (and probably on the Baku 2015 team as well).

(Marco Ballich began with Barcelona 1992; and lately,  as Matty outlined above, worked successively on Sochi 2014 (primarily with Closing & the Paras); and for Rio.))

Salt Lake had Mischer (who's done a few Super Bowl halftime shows and many Kennedy Center Award shows) as the official production company for the Main Olympics, reporting to Scott Givens (who was an in-house employee as Head of Imagery and Ceremonies for SLOOC, before he set up his Five Currents company after 2002); and Joedy Lister produced the Para O's w/ Jack Morton Ww debuting on the Paralympic stage.   Givens/5 Currents probably has the inside track for LA 2028 at this point; while, I'd guess Ballich could be a factor for Paris 2024.

China, Japan and Korea have used their own home-grown talents.

ShowCanada has built MANY of the major Olympic show props; and Peter Minshall and his T&T costume makers worked with the Olympic shows in the '90s.

Nearly all these companies have their own websites, Anthony.

Thank you Matty and Baron!  I wouldn't know where to look for this stuff and all this info helps so much!  Hoping to get my foot in the events industry!

Hey Anthony, yeah it's a super exciting but a DEMANDING industry to work in. I use to be a event executive for a 4000+ venue. Make sure you go with a company that has a proven track record and 200+ employees. The larger the company, the more events they have under their belt. Also if they own a few of their own venues, that's even better.

BTW, Google these guys. They took care of the Rio Olympics: Cerimonias Cariocas 2016.

All the best!

Anthony, for you, I'd recommend you apply, either with: (1) Five Currents; and (2) Cirque du Soleil.  You might get/build a lot of experience in staging spectacle at Cirque; and those would be good credentials for applying at the other, smaller Special-Event Production Companies later on.
