Love Lisbon anyway, and coincides with a public holiday here, so less annual leave necessary. It was too good to not go (even though so far I only have a dress rehearsal ticket). Only a small number of songs really stood out. So I place in first place Moldova!!! a close second is Estonia with Norway in joint second. Other songs I liked in joint 3d Belgium/ Spain/ Azerbaijan/ and Montenegro no one really rose to the high standard set by Portugal last year, But Moldova's entry is there best entry for years. Will she win? Probably not - but there is a huge wave of acclaim behind her right now. She absolutely nailed it in the semifinal which should get her a lot of the public votes. I couldn’t go to Lisbon in the end as I have a medical problem, but clearly Israel and Cyprus are the faves. I wouldn’t rule out France, Lithuania and Hungary either, and while I’m not a fan of our entry, Germany could do much better than I initially thought. I personally see France, Spain or Cyprus winning, and I do enjoy Ireland and Australia as well. But, given politics, it may be time for Israel to win. Wouldn't mind a Tel Aviv 2019 Eurovision. Also, they already did the contest in Jerusalem back in 1999. They might try switching to Tel Aviv and tbh, for safety reasons, it would be better to do so. Not sure what both cities have currently. In 1999 they used the same venue that hosted the 1979 contest in Jerusalem and that was way to small in 1999 so wouldn't really do it next year. The norm seems to be a 12000+ arena. Would love to see Dana International feature somehow in the contest. Fortifying what the books are saying isn't what the juries are for. Also I hope Australia's tele vote didn't collapse this year just because they gave there 12 points to the UK last year. Also as entertaining as Moldoves stage performance was I think they would have done even better had they styled there stage performance like there video. Didn't hear that for anybody else. It wasn't the best song by a mile, but it deserved more than it got. What really annoyed me was that there was no mention of what happened. They just brushed over it. She had her moment in the spotlight stolen. Why should she have to perform again? It shouldn't have happened! The staging was pretty good again the crowd were clapping and singing along. Lets hope next year we put forward a stronger song and we actually get to perform it on the night so we can be judged by everyone on a level playing field. But the UK were offered a chance to sing again to keep it on a level foot and potentially increase their chances of more votes, but they declined. the person running on stage was disappointing but if they are quick enough it can happen at any event. My main concern was how the hell did he manage to get a backpack into the arena, surely they should have been banned for general safety, checked or not... Olympic Fan Darcy Posted May 14, 2018 Report Share Posted May 14, 2018 Have some opinions on this years Eurovision Did not like Austria or Sweden and like the commentators, was shocked every time they got 12 points. Televoters got it right by not giving them many points but not impressed Austria came 3rd and Sweden got 7th. Australia's ranking was not deserved. I guess we've perhaps overstayed our welcome and the Europeans are sick of US? I honestly thought Jess Mauboy's song was a top 5 contender. It's the the 2nd best of all the Aussie songs submitted so far (Dami a clear first, then Jess, then Guy, then Isiah a distant last). Coming last in the televotes stunned me. The only nations to give us televoting points were Malta (6 pts), Denmark (2 pts) and the U.K (1 pt). I really liked Monsters by Finland. Can't believe it came 2nd last. I think Ireland's entry should've been higher as well. U.K deserved to be higher. It's on my playlist unlike most of the others. I guess Brexit hasn't helped, although they haven't been popular in a long time. Israel's song was catchy but I wasn't a big fan. In saying that though, it's very wacky, very Eurovision. Had them coming 2nd so them winning wasn't too much of a shock but I firmly believe Cyprus should've won. Cyprus' song was incredible and yet was criminally underscored by the juries. I still don't know why. The public loved it (came 2nd for televotes). Yet the jury's were completely mixed? Cyprus got given 0 points from 15 countries (!): Ukraine, San Marino, Georgia, Austria, United Kingdom, Latvia, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Australia, Serbia, Israel, Hungary, Poland and Portugal. Is there some sort of geopolitics I don't know about that involves nations disliking Cyprus? Cause they got 6 lots of 12 points (more than Israel got), were the betting favorites before the final and yet 15 juries gave them 0 points. I don't understand this.
