BidIndex - how exactly?

Recommended Posts

How exactly is the GB Bid Index made? They say it was a mathematical model, but how are those numbers calculated? So they put the bid info in the computer and it gives the rating? But how? It's a mystery to me

I hope someone can reveal it

It was already revealed before:

Bid logo                         65%

Celebs endorsing bid        25%

Main stade design             3%

Samaranch's hairdo on Evaluation day    5%

Other venues                   2%

That's the secret formula -- like the KFC Original recipe batter.

GM is very secretive about the exact formulas that go into the BidIndex. If you click on the links on the site he explains some things about it, but not in any great detail. It's safe to assume, though, that it takes into account various aspects of a bid (infrastructure, past experience, support etc), gives each of these certain weightings, adds in some subjective scores for intangibles and comes out with a result.

My feeling is, for example with the 2012 race index rankings, was that a lot of the results he came up with were basically what anyone with knowledge of the bidding process who looked at the race objectively and used a bit of common sense would have thought.
