SkiFreak
All I want to see is someone pull off the Iron Lotus better than North Korea, at these games!
anthonyliberatori
Noticing the relatively average attendance at this first Team Event, not empty but there are some noticeable empty pockets throughout the upper levels of the arena. I hope it raises throughout the game at some point.
Faster
It was disaster on ice, so.... The Russians could have very well handed Canada the gold medal with the first event. If the Canadian ladies can finish second to the Russian ladies, and the Canadian pairs be within one point of the Russian pairs, there is no chance of the Russians coming back at us with a 5 point gap. LatinXTC
Goodbye US's chance of getting silver, maybe even gold in the team event. Nathan Chen was the best men's skater going into the Olympics and could have given us a significant lead in the short program team event had he placed 1st. Instead he placed 4th. Here's hoping Russia screws up again to help solidify our gold.

Here's hoping Russia screws up again to help solidify our gold. Your gold? The event is Canada's to lose now thanks to the mistakes of Chen and the Russian and the German pairs. Canada got their best possible results from those two. If Osmond/Daleman skate to potential in the women's short it will be lights out for the competition. Chen is not going to skate the free. Chan is. Even a mediocre Chan is going to beat the USA's second. Canada will beat the Americans in Pairs and should beat the Americans in Dance. All Canada needs is for short dance to be 1 Canada, 2 France, 3 USA and 4 Russia and the competition is over. Canada will have at least 5 points on the USA and 4 to 6 on the Russians. Canada would need complete meltdowns to not win in the free. The Germans won't make the final, so the pairs is going to be easier points and put in China over Italy as the 5th and there is not a chance to gain enough separation to overcome a 4 to 5 point lead after the shorts. Also if Canada puts Osmond as the first woman, you could potentially have a situation whereKostner puts two places between a Canadian and American woman. 2 more points. Time for Team Lance Armstrong to take another piss test. The battle for gold is over. the Russians conceded the gold to Canada with who they picked to skate in the pairs. Chan and Virtue/Moir have both said they want to skate the free. But in all honesty, as long as the men's goes to form (Chan 1 to 3, Russian 4 to 5) there will be no reason for Virtue/Moir to skate the Ice Dance, because the lead will be insurmountable by than and there is no need to deny Weaver/Poje a gold medal. The Americans need to be careful though. A subpar skate in the men's and Kostner turning back time in the ladies could see the Italians win a medal over them. nykfan845
It's hilarious how much of an afterthought the team event still is.

It is not so much an afterthought, as countries are realistic. Only Russia, Canada and the USA have the programs to compete in this format. I think the goal of the event was to encourage the Chinese and Japanese to develop dancers and singles for the Chinese and dancers for the Japanese. But neither has moved much
4seasonscentre
So Virtue and Moir will skate the same programs in the individual events? Weird Figure skating is not really a team event IMHO.
4seasonscentre
Pairs Results: Gold- Aliona Savchenko / Bruno Massot (Germany) Silver - Sui Wenjing / Han Cong (China) Bronze - Meagan Duhamel / Eric Radford (Canada) I'm a proud Canadian and am thrilled Duhamel and Radford made it on the podium, but the Germans' performance was truly stunning! Technically strong and very elegant. Some of the moves were just...wow! Props to Savchenko who was finally able to win a gold medal at her fifth Olympics! On the other hand the OAR who were second after the short program had an awful program. The music seemed more suited to an exhibition skate and their facial expressions made it seem like even they were not enjoying it. Also had technical flaws which left the off the podium. She's there as expert for ARD (German TV) - and shed quite a few tears today :-) She's actually a cool person, like her much more nowadays than when she was still active (she was from the "other" Germany anyway). 4seasonscentre
Virtue and Moir beat Papadakis and Cizeron by less than one point! Had Papadakis not had problems with her wardrobe they might have taken away the gold medal!
