PikyoK Posted January 22, 2018 Report Posted January 22, 2018 This guy recorded this enchanting video with some surrounding music. Could that music be used in a segment for the Opening Ceremony? If so, I'm guessing this lovely and enchanting piece of music would be used for a Traditional segment (since the OC will show a mix of both Traditional and Modern Korea). Quote
PikyoK Posted January 22, 2018 Report Posted January 22, 2018 Look what I found: It's the practice hall where the performers have been practising for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. It was at Kintex Korea (Korea International Exhibition Center) in Goyang (just Northwest of Seoul). The lines in the round stage could be a clue for the Artistic Segment of both the OC & CC. Quote

Ikarus360 Posted January 22, 2018 Report Posted January 22, 2018 Music sounds very dramatic/peaceful to be for a modern/technology segment. I think this might be either Dove of Peace or some of the earlier segments of the show. Also looks like it snowed heavily last night. While I would love to see snow add to the winter feel, I really hope strong winds are absent. There were already talks of moving the Opening to the Ice Hockey arena or something if the weather was too unbearable to work. Seems on this very short vid they put something at the left of the main staircase, but its hard to see. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 22, 2018 Report Posted January 22, 2018 They are installing the look of the games inside the stadium now Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 22, 2018 Report Posted January 22, 2018 Looks like we have our first music performers confirmed for the Opening Ceremony. Also confirmed by Naver. http://m.entertain.naver.com/now/read?oid=144&aid=0000534017 Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 22, 2018 Report Posted January 22, 2018 Not sure what will they be performing but here's some songs from them. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 22, 2018 Report Posted January 22, 2018 The article says Jeon Ink Won was also confirmed to perform at the Opening Ceremony. He is known as the lead singer of the folk group Deulgookhwa. I can't find this confirmed in another source though so i'm not sure about its credibility. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 Looks like there was an official press conference just now about both the Opening and Closing ceremonies which was broadcasted via Periscope. I will try posting some screenshots Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 http://news.hankyung.com/article/201801239952l For what I could translate from this article, since the decision of North Korea participation came up very late, they said they didn't planned to make changes to the ceremony, beside the fact both Koreas will march as an unified team as Arirang will be played, since the rehearsals are already being made. There was a proposal to make the NK Taekwondo team perform at the opening supposedly, but they mentioned they haven't hear of said proposal yet. Also, it seems that the South Korean flag and anthem will be raised as part of the protocol, since it is the host nation. One more thing. Since the stage has a pentagram shape, the director apparently says it both fits with both the Five olympic rings and the Ying Yang Five Line Thought (which I guess its the traditional 5 elements on eastern belief) It could also be translated as the Five Constants of Confucianism (Confucianism was the dominant religion during the Joseon era). They have also released a promotional video instructing the recommended type of clothing to wear at the Opening Ceremony https://twitter.com/pyeongchang2018/status/955693381581127682/video/1 Quote
PikyoK Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 Apparently from reading this article: http://news.hankyung.com/pyeongchang2018/view?aid=2018012398391 The Opening Ceremony will feature five children as the main roles (a la Sydney 2000, Sochi 2014) who will travel through time from "ancient mythological blends between people and nature" to the future "where Artificial Intelligence and utilising 5G technology will come into place" (there will definitely be drones present at OC). The purpose of the time-travel from Traditional Korea to Modern Korea is to "search for peace on the Korean Peninsula", hence why the theme for the OC is titled "Peace in Motion". Song Seung Hwan describes it as a "Winter Fairy Tale" and funny enough, it is a fairy tale. XD 1 Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 Ok, this is a big spoiler, everybody. It seems the element which will connect the segments of the show, called "Peace in Motion" will be five kids, each one representing the five olympic rings, who will travel through Korea's history since ancient times to the present time, as they overcome trials in order to create a journey to a peaceful future. http://news.hankyung.com/pyeongchang2018/view?aid=2018012398391 Quote PyeongChang Opening Ceremony theme is peace ... AI · 5G 'winter fairy tale' drawn 'The bells that fit the people of the world make the world white ice. In a world of pure white, five children come to an answer to peace through adventure. " It is the main contents of the opening ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics opening on the 9th of next month. It is the story that five children who symbolize the Olympics' "Oh Rin" draw a peaceful world through the power of connection and communication through adventure in Korean history and culture. Yang Jung-woong, who directed the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Olympic Games, said in a press briefing media briefing held at the Main Press Center in Panshang, Gangwon Province on 23rd, "This opening ceremony is a story of peace that everyone can sympathize with, "The five children will travel from time to time in ancient myths to see people and nature harmonize together and overcome trials and suffering to create a journey to the future of peace." He said, "Although the opening ceremony will pay attention to the value of people, we will apply cutting-edge technology to performances. We will be able to confirm performances using artificial intelligence (AI), 5G technology and drones at the opening ceremony." He added. The general secretary of Song Seung-hwan opened the Olympic torch relay (bird's-eye view) for the first time at the opening ceremony. The torchbear is shaped by five fingers supporting a white porcelain jar. Song said, "We have concluded that the white porcelain jar is the best value for harmony, fusion and peace, which are core values of the PyeongChang Olympic Games." Kim Young Se, designer, And Alain DeMong, who are praised by world-renowned scholars, are trying to convey the elegance and elegance of Korean beauty through our unique white porcelain jar. " He said, "We are prepared to prepare for the start of the opening ceremony. We are also considering a demonstration of Taekwondo in North Korea." Lee Hee-beom, chairman of the organizers of the Winter Olympics, said, "At the opening ceremony, the two Koreas hold a Korean peninsula and enter the Korean peninsula, but Taegeukgi and the national anthem also appear." Lee said, "In order for VIPs to enter the venue, we will hold a three-minute concert with the motif" Taegeuk "as a host, host Taegeukgi as a hosting host for the Olympics and host national anthems." As a result of North Korea's participation, I hope to be delivered to you. " A special guest will be presented at the closing ceremony, he added. He also said he prepared for the cold. At the opening ceremony, we will distribute a set of 6 kinds of pancakes including Puncho's, knee blanket, hot pack cushion, hand and foot hot pack, cold hat, etc., and install windbreaker, heating shelter and heater in closing ceremony place. They provide hot drinks and food trucks from the moving line to the meeting area. Lee said, "There is a rumor that the winter Olympics are cold, but it is too cold in some parts of the country." He said, "Do not worry too much because you are preparing for the cold weather and the transportation of 43,000 people on the day of the event. did. Lee said, "If the Seoul Olympics had been a chance for Korea to be known all over the world 30 years ago, the Pyeongchang Olympic Games will be a chance for Korea to become a cultural powerhouse on the basis of the Korean Wave spreading all over the world. Everyone should collect their strength. " I think the article also mentions they want to create a "wow" factor when it comes to the lightning of the Cauldron. Quote
PikyoK Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 I think this is gonna be a wonderful artistic segment and I wonder if the kids will all be Korean or from different continents? The way how they will put this artistic segment together seems amazing. In the words of McDonald's (Olympic Sponsor), "I'm lovin' it" Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 While using kids as an element which connects the segments of a show has been done already in other ceremonies (Sydney 2000, Sochi 2014 (to a certain extent) and Doha 2006), this time seems to be an interesting take. If the kids are supposed to be the 5 continents I kind of hope they do come from the respective continent they represent. Quote

yoshi Posted January 23, 2018 Author Report Posted January 23, 2018 So the drone bit would be at the end...does that mean they're not gonna form the rings? Also, how do you have a performance involving a mobile communication standard? And they're very much the anti-London when it comes to the flame - do they wanna show it off as much as possible? Quote

I used Bing Translator to translate an article. I believe that when they say 5G, they probably meant a "next generation" technology where you have phones, fast internet speeds and other show-stopping technology. Quote

Ikarus360 Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 Yeah, I was going to say that. They already used the robot during the Torch Relay. I even posted pics of it on December. What is true, though, is they want to display hi-tech during the last part of the show to represent how Korea has evolved so far since the Han River Miracle. Anyway. According to this article, the five kids who will be the protagonists of the Opening Ceremony will all be from the Gangwon province. Apparently the use of kids was done as an answer to the Seoul 1988 hoop boy (apparently it seems that was the scene of that opening ceremony which is remembered most fondly for many Koreans). http://news.hankyung.com/pyeongchang2018/view?aid=201801230149l Also, it seems a Korean Bell will be used to signalize the beggining of the Opening (it mentions the word " 한국의 종소리가 " which is for "korean bell" when it talks about the beggining of the show), for what I could translate here (from the official website) A korean bell was used to signalize the beggining of the 1988 Olympics closing ceremony. I believe they also depicted a large "peace bell" at the opening ceremony of the 2002 World Cup. If they do this it would be reminiscing of Nagano's opening with the Zenkoji temple bell. https://www.pyeongchang2018.com/ko/news/평화와-미래-품은-평창-개·폐막식-기술보다-사람의-동화-종합 Quote "The opening ceremony is the adventure of five children who have found the answer to peace" "The closing ceremony is not the end but a new beginning ... the chapter of the festive festival" "The message of peace will be more emphasized through participation in North Korea" (Pyeongchang-Yonhap News) Lee Young-ho reporter = 'Through the adventure of five children who are searching for the answer to the peace day and night 17, Pyeongchang becomes the starting point for the future.' The opening and closing ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, which will take place on February 9th and will last for 17 days until the 25th, is the stage where the legitimacy of Korean culture inherited in a half-year history and the peace era created by Korean passion . The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Organizing Committee (Chairman Lee Hee-Beom) unveiled the concept of opening and closing ceremonies at the Main Press Center (MPC), which was held at Alpensia Resort, Daegwan-ri, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province on the 23rd. The key is peace and the future. In addition, it conveys the message of "harmony, fusion, enthusiasm, peace". The opening ceremony is to convey the meaning of peace in the history and culture of Korea and to make peace with the world through the connection and communication power that Koreans showed. The opening ceremony begins with the Korean bell that welcomes the whole world to make the world white ice, and the adventure begins when five children search for the answer to peace. Song said, "The children draw a peaceful world through their travels in the history and culture of the Republic of Korea, all of which will be created through the power of connection and communication." "The concept of opening and closing ceremonies has not changed with the participation of North Korea," he said. "I believe that the message of peace that has been caught by North Korea will be delivered more strongly." What stands out in the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympic Games is the appearance of the children again, similar to the appearance of a hoop boy at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Song said, "The PyeongChang Olympic Games have more than just the Seoul Olympics." Yang Jung Woong, the director of the opening ceremony, said, "I tried to include the story of peace that everyone sympathizes with rather than being difficult and abstract," he said. He said, "A fairytale fantasy will be unfolding from the ancient myths of Korea, exploring the past and the future of five children living in Gangwondo." With the audience and the stage close to each other, "I am trying to show fairy tales in which people are drawn rather than analog and technology than digital." The closing ceremony is a story of starting a new emergency on the wave of the future through the PyeongChang Olympics, reflecting the challenging spirit of humanity to break through the existing framework and move forward. Song said, "The world's athletes from around the world who have waited four days and nights for the 17th day of the tournament have gathered in Pyeongchang to challenge the Olympic Games," Song said. "After the Olympics, Pyeongchang is celebrating its transition to the future. It will be held at the closing ceremony. " Chang Jung-jung, the director of the closing ceremony, said, "The closing ceremony will be held as a venue for harmony beyond the age and generation as a place for festivals where the fierce competition is set down and all the people can play together." "Music, dance, I will draw traditional and modern culture through it. " He said, "The challenge of failing and adversity and refusing to get used to it will be expressed in music and video." The closing ceremony is meant to be a new starting point, and the audience will be able to demonstrate their imagination while watching the show. Guest will be able to communicate the meaning of Pyeongchang as a new beginning, not an end. " At the opening and closing ceremonies of the contest, the Taehwasang Taehwajeong was built with the motif of "Moon Jar". Pyeongchang Organizing Committee explained, "Sunghwa University, which used moon jar as its material, contained the beauty of simplicity and Korea's margins." "We convey the message of participation and harmony." horn90@yna.co.kr (End) Copyright (c) Yonhap News, All Rights Reserved - Redistribution prohibited> Quote
