One thing that professional soldiers hate is being disrespected by being misused and abused by civil authorities as dog's bodies to perform menial tasks for the community. During the Games they'll have their hands full with all facets of security (stadium security sweeps between sessions, thoroughly checking ALL vehicles entering Games zones, VIP escorts, honour guards etc.), VIP cheuffering, ceremonial tasks including salute party's and flag raising, and emergency response teams. In addition these troops would likely be accommodated in tentage at nearby military bases or camps supported by their own field catering, medical support and transport. For Comm Games the bulk of these will likely be Territorials (UK Reservists) who have probably been in training for weeks. The higher end security response during the games would be managed by Special Forces and RAF in conjuction with Britain's MI agencies and Birmingham Police. It's been incredible how fast these 4 years went by ... and I still cannot watch a full version of the Gold Coast Opening Ceremony, which was one of the best ceremonies of that 2018. The BBC/megastore thing is also coming on, although it really does make a mess of Centenary Square. Anyone know how to get your own pictures on here? All you need is a third party image host like another social media forum or an online free picture host (take your pick). One the image(s) are stored there all you need is the URL link to the images which you insert into this forum by using the "Insert image from URL" button at the bottom right of you message window whilst posting your message. In news news, BBC coverage revealed: https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/birmingham-2022-commonwealth-games-on-the-bbc It's how you'd expect so it's not a surprise, but it's good to see there'll be a heavy focus on Birmingham and the Midlands in the surrounding programming - it's an underrated city and region that gets overlooked in the north/south slanging match. According to a post on the forum I got the link from, the opening ceremony will run from 7pm-10:30, so mostly in daylight. Hopefully they've taken inspiration from the handover flashmob (you know, the good bit) to show you can still have a spectacle even if it's not dark - could be quite refreshing. I suspect that a lot of great UK cities such as Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool have struggled to shake off their Industrial Age images. A lot of work has gone into reinventing these cities beyond heavy industry and the Games puts a spotlight on them in a positive sense to hopefully promote future tourism and growth. They were the last "TRUE" Games... anyway... things have changed a bit from then.... I think ceremonies will follow the "simplicity" tendency, taken to its fullest in Tokyo Olympics OC...
