Rob2012 Posted August 12, 2020 Author Report Posted August 12, 2020 Blimey Birmingham scraps single-site athletes' village plan for Commonwealth Games Organisers of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham are no longer planning to use a single-site athletes’ village. The accommodation facility was set to be built in the Perry Barr area of the city, but the coronavirus pandemic has changed the thinking, with three sites now being used. They will be at the NEC hotel, the University of Warwick and the University of Birmingham. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/aug/12/birmingham-scrap-single-site-athletes-village-plan-for-2022-commonwealth-games-athletics Quote

Scotguy II Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 I think it is highly likely that the opening ceremony will be bombarded with the Queens platinum jubilee, just like Manchester 2002 was all about her. Quote

Wouldn't that be quite the gamble, though? She'll be 96 by the time. I wouldn't fully rule out "God Save the King" will have to be played by the time. Quote
StefanMUC Posted February 7, 2022 Report Posted February 7, 2022 The Commonwealth, and thus the CWG, merely only still exist because of Lizzie, so it‘s just fair to have her hijack the event, especially in her platinum year. She seemed quite fine yesterday on the news, might still be some time until King Charles and (as we now know) Queen Consort Camilla take over. At least for this summer, I don‘t see it happen yet. She could still get another PM in by then, maybe. Quote

Rob2012 Posted February 7, 2022 Author Report Posted February 7, 2022 (edited) Johnson has never been adored or popular. He was simply more liked than Jeremy Corbyn... Currently, only 25% of people think he should remain PM. Edited February 7, 2022 by Rob. Quote

And to be produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Broadcasting will be headed by Hamish Hamilton who directed the London 2012 ceremonies. The team has been brought together by the chief creative officer, Martin Green, who also led the London 2012 ceremonies. Hopefully the choir will be of the likes of the Sydney 2000 opening ceremony although I doubt a commonwealth games ceremony will achieve the beauty of a 00s Olympic Opening ceremony. Quote

Scotguy II Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 I have decided that i will not watch the Birmingham 2022 opening ceremony in protest at the UK Governments lies and hypocrisy in having parties and large gatherings when the UK was forced into lockdown and families were not able to be with loved ones in their dying moments. I cant watch an event where the compulsive liar Boris Johnson will be attending 2 Quote

Sir Rols Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 (edited) Mate, no skin off my nose if you watch it or not. I doubt I will either - I’ve still never watched Melbourne or the Gold Coast’s openings. As usual with the Commies, I’ll just catch the odd sport when I come across it but not go out of my way to watch avidly. But if you’re going to throw out bait, sure, I’ll bite on it. StefanMUC Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 For all that‘s wrong with the UK government, it is an extreme set of double standards to boycot the CWG opening for that while at the same time getting excited about the Olympic opening by a regime that can indeed be called genocidal. Now that someone‘s calling you out for that, you ask to respect your decision. Well no. Not every decision needs respect. Go on and live with it though, not my problem. Quote

Mate, he's not boycotting anything, I think you missed his extreme sarcasm. As far as I can see, and I can't blame him, Sir Rols has simply decided not to take any crap since AustralianFan's lecture in response to his earnest post about not watching the Beijing ceremony. Any prospect of a worthwhile discussion was instantly snuffed out, and now we just have anger on one side and sarcasm on the other. I guess that's the end result when you get a noob heavy-handedly cosplaying as a mod. Edited February 9, 2022 by Rob. Quote
