Bear
"When the Paris Olympics closes Aug. 11, the world can turn its attention to a handover ceremony that will feature a heavy Los Angeles theme. The moment was teased by U.S. Olympics committee CEO Sarah Hirschland and LA 2028 Chief Athlete Officer Janet Evans at the U.S. Olympics Media Summit in New York this week, but all of its key details of the ceremony are still under wraps." https://thesportingtribune.com/los-angeles-to-be-an-olympics-host-unlike-any-other-in-28 interesting... of course this could mean anything but it's fun to see we're finally starting to get some hints at what will happen. Heavy Los Angeles, I want to say that I didn't really expect them to come and tell us "we won't talk about Los Angeles at all". More seriously, heavy? Hollywood theme? (because hey, 95% of people on the planet think that first when they say “Hollywood”). We will have to put Joe Biden for the traditional appearance of the head of state. A handover ceremony that has fun reproducing cult films of Hollywood? Joe Biden in an Olympic remake of Pulp Fiction? It will set the tone for the presidential election. baron-pierreIV
Whatever promo film clips LA28 will prepare, it will show that LA will present the next generation of sports from 1984 when there were no digital signals then, no internet, no cell phones, no Commies (or at least the Moscow kind), no LA subway and no Paralympics--and all of that are in play now (except for the return of Russia & Belarus which are still questionable at this time. And, of course, there are Subway sandwich franchise now! ). At least that's how I would tell the story. Olympian1010
If the handover ceremony doesn’t have at least the chorus of this song, what are we even doing 😝
baron-pierreIV
Eh. Too repetitive. They'll certainly feature the Pasek LA LA song from the movie. And I'd throw in the traditional CALIFORNIA, HERE I COME or the Official State Song:

baron-pierreIV
Problem with those "privately-authored" songs, LA28 has to pay royalties to use them. No such fees for State songs and those in the public domain. And of course, if LA28 commissions a new song that can carry over to 2028, it could be another $$-earner for them. Olympian1010
For what it’s worth, my favorite songs about California as a Californian are probably… - California Dreamin’ by the Mamas and the Papas (and this one does explicitly mention LA) - Californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers - California English by Vampire Weekend Also, our state song is underrated, so I’d be happy to see it get some international attention.

A certain Missing Person's song also comes to mind. Although, it seems to go against any form of physical, sporting activity - "Walking in LA? Nobody walks in LA!" sebastien1214
According to RMC Sport, Tom Cruise will participate in the LA 2028 handover. "On the night of April 25 to 26, the American actor was spotted in the streets of Paris by onlookers. On his motorcycle, hair blowing in the wind, the star of the "Mission Impossible" saga took turns in the small streets of the capital, near the Arc de Triomphe A traveling car drove in front of the actor at full speed on his electric motorcycle, with an important detail: a white flag at the back of the motorcycle. “The link was quickly made with the filming of “Mission Impossible” which will be released in 2025. But the American actor was not there for that. Tom Cruise was in the middle of filming a sequence which should allow, during the closing ceremony of the Games at the Stade de France, to switch to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The white flag should allow post-production inlays. https://rmcsport.bfmtv.com/jeux-olympiques/info-rmc-sport-jo-2024-tom-cruise-star-de-la-ceremonie-de-cloture-des-jeux-a-paris_AV-202405080035. html So... maybe I wasn't wrong about a Hollywood theme?

Interesting. I can totally see it. BTW, the link you posted is gone. And then either that sequence leads into whatever else will perform live at StadeF or as whomever exits the StadeF -- just like when Jeff Probst scoops up the Ballot Box at the last SURVIVOR voting in Fiji and then reappears live for the reveal of the winner in Hollywood. Of course, it will be a Hollywood theme, and if they're not using the LALA Land theme -- songwriters Pasek and his partner (can't remember his name off the top of my head) maybe have written a new LA theme song because "La La Land" is also being prepared w/ additional new songs as a new Broadway stage musical for next season. BigVic
London had David Beckham, Rio had Pele and Tokyo had the late Shinzo Abe dressed up as Super Mario to welcome the world to these games in the last 16 years. venuedesignlover
Maybe the song “Heavy, California” by Jungle will be used. I could see it as a closing ceremony party vibe type song. Speaks a lot about californias cultural power and beauty.
