LA 2028 Ceremonies

Recommended Posts

I guess they'll be shooting fireworks for Closing from the garden roof of that UGLY new museum beside LA Memorial.  At least it's good for something -- and I guess its Cafeteria will offer another choice for fans attending T&F.

I still think it looks like a design even Zaha Hadid would've rejected.  It just doesn't complement the Coliseum!

An architect’s rendering of a long, low, curvy futuristic building sitting in a park, next to an outdoor stadium.

so far the tread has been discussing weather the OC for 2028 would be about america (with all the founding father, colonial attires Etc) or LA as the city it self (Hollywood in patricular) i would a suggest a marriage of both american with an LA perspective.

much like London, we start with a redwood forest with the early tribal settlers maybe Spanish church to represent the mexico-Spain colonization. then, it all get rip apart to represent the gold rush where many american journeyed to find gold and/ minerals. add in a bit of westworld to it with cowboys and such.

the US president can arrive like the queen with a superman or captain america sequence .

they can also add a wizard of oz scene where you can do a 'tribute' to the great depression. it starts in B&W where a girl sing' over the rainbow and then goes to color then they are transported to the emerald city (LA).

what i think they should also add is a tribute to the LGBT community. basically, i just want rupaul to open the parade of nations with 'category is: Olympic athlete realness ' and also drag queens as sign bearers.

i just want to add more ideas.

-there's should be a passing tribute to Marilyn Monroe. maybe in an open air convertible. will be part of the gold rush scene

-might be sound cliche but a musical tribute to all the artist that 'came' LA from the beach boys, tupac and kathy perry.

- a montage Olympic flame rally to the tune of Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles - YouTube and the final will be escorted by the Vanessa Carlton playing a moving piano.

- a bear for the red wood forest scene . not an actual bear but a life size puppet stealing picnic baskets from tourist.

- Serena Williams to light the Olympic flame or they can do a 2012 and have children light it.

-a tribute to social media/the internet. again a re-hash from 2012 but the us military actually invented the system of the internet and Tim just invented the website

also, i think they do the la la land for the hand over. not whole thing but the concept of cars stuck in traffic is not only very LA but very Americana. i would imagine divers and passengers getting so bored that they would start playing sports. bikes, skate boards and free runners jumping from car to car. a golfer getting some practice shoots in. two soccer players having a bit of footie

I don't see the fascination with Serena being given the singular honor?  Her field has been PRO tennis.  Joan Benoit Samuelson carries more historic resonance.  Phelps is the ALL-TIME Olympics' most winningest person.  Kirch Karaly has won 4 golds -- 2 in Indoor Volleyball; one in Beach; and another gold as Coach for the US Women's team -- you can't get more versatile than that.  Kerri Welch is ANOTHER 3-time Gold medalist (& 1 bronze) in Beach Volleyball & she's a SoCal gal.  Those have MORE CREDENTIALS than Williams -- a one-trick pony.

Personally, I want "Los Angeles" and "Hollywood" downplayed during the opening (and closing) of the 2028 games.

The 2012 games already celebrated "Hollywood" (ie, the industry of movies/entertainment---London for several years has been grabbing a lot of international popular motion pictures and TV activity; music too) and "America" too already has been honored quite a few times since 1984, including at the summer games in Atlanta and winter games in Salt Lake City. So those themes are too much a case of "been there, done that."

I was also turned off by the way the local-local approach in 2012 made one of the greatest cities in Europe and the world come off as hokey and provincial.

One year to go until the LA28 presentation at Paris 2024 :) the LAOOC should probably be in the planning stages at this point... I wonder what they're gonna do

Video clip, projections, dancers/gymnasts.

LA can only get serious with planning once Paris gives them the specifics for the stage/space in which to show their thing.  Of course, LA will feature its being the THIRD, 3x Summer Olympic host city.  Mayor Karen Bass will be there to receive the Oly Flag.

Do we know the production company for the handover?

No, not yet. I imagine any info regarding the handover will be released early next year. I'm regularly looking though, so I'll post if I find anything

Looks like Don Mischer is no longer active.  I think it will probably be Five Currents.

I was thinking Five Currents too. I work for a large events agency, but haven't heard any rumors yet.

Scott Givens has already established an inside track, at least for the Handover portion -- and I am sure he will play a big consultant way for LA28, if he won't even be signed as the Big Imagery honcho (as he did for Salt Lake 2002).  I wouldn't be surprised if Givens/5 Currents will also handle the United'26 shows; then move on to LA28.

I am sure Ballich and Betty Productions/Catherine Ugwu have put in their feelers as well.  And there will be Radio City Productions.

I think the scale in which the US does ceremonies won't be a fit for Balich. I think 5Currents is where it will be.

The biggest boo ever. Nobody will have heard a boo like it. So big...so big.

It would be yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.

Best not to think about these things though.  Less so what it might look like with the Olympics and more the general notion of that asshat being back in the White House

If Trump gets re-elected in 2024, and accepted the opportunity to open the 2028 Olympics... how likely would a big Coliseum-wide Boooo be?

HIGHLY unlikely.  Maybe the US team would turn their backs towards him.  NOT GONNA happen in a California-hosted Games.
