Tense times on both sides of politics and for the LA2038 organising committee I should imagine. 1 hour ago, Bear said: damn if the IOC had to go with us for a winter olympics that must mean they're really out of options huh 😄 (sometimes i wonder if it's theoretically possible to hold a Winter Games in SoCal... at least for sure the ice venues are taken care of) Anyways, I'll be voting the day before as I assume the lines will be shorter then. I won't disclose much in order to avoid a fight or something in the forums, but I'll just say that the person I'm voting for is someone, who among other things, would probably be a good person to open the LA28 Games in front of the whole world. whoops, sorry, correction: LA2028 organising committee 😀 Hope voting goes smoothly and uneventful for you, and the queues are not too long. 1 Quote
Bear Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 Joint LA28/IOC Press Conference happened earlier today if anyone wants to watch: Not much was said that isn't new tbh, though some interesting points I found: Tony Estanguet is now on the LA28 Coordination Commission A PlayLA participant actually won a silver medal at Paris 2024, so you can make the argument that our legacy is already so strong that people are getting medals at the previous Olympics Ticketing, hospitality, Torch Relay, mascot(s), Cultural Olympiad, and the volunteers programme will be key items in 2025/26 The Olympic Torch Relay will be the "thread that binds the nation" (Reynold Hoover's words) LA28 is being considered a regional Games, with a comparison being made to Milano Cortina 2026 Probably the most important point: the incoming Trump Administration will not affect planning Emphasis made that LA won the Games during Trump's first term, so dealing with him is nothing new LA28 will continue engaging with the Federal Government Trump has been clear regarding the responsibility and requirements needed to deliver international competitions including the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup So things like travel, security, transportation, etc. LA28 has been termed as "America's Games, in LA" Regarding transportation, LA28's delivery model relies on what existed in 2016, NOT taking into consideration the infrastructure that has expanded and built in the years since, so everything being done now is just an "added bonus" if you will While there is a possibility that sports may be assigned across the country *cough* cricket *cough*, most of the focus for the remaining venue assignments will be in LA and in Southern California Quote
