Although Atlanta's OCC set a record in terms of attendance and the 2nd tightest budget over the past 50 years (after LA 1984), the judgment of people like head Billy Payne or Don Mischer wasn't as good as it could have been.

The 2028 games may not have as good attendance numbers as the 2024 games in Paris/Western Europe did because of ongoing competition in LA with a lot of yearly pro and college-level sports. The 2028 games will also draw on a smaller pool of potential spectators than the larger base of East Coast residents the 1996 games were able to tap into.

You may have a point there, cause as much as I'd like to go, the distance, expense & headache will make me second guess it. But then again, I think L.A. is going to be bombarded with a bunch of celebs & elites anyway (just look at how many there were in Paris. It felt at times as if I was watching the Oscars instead of the Olympics), that there'll be those types of crowds there at least.

The 2028 games' top goal should be to keep its budget in the black. As for the games' Olympic village, it had better be more well managed than 2024's was, but attendance figures may be lower and the quality of its ceremonies may be similarly sus.

And you know these things . . . because your moniker is Olympics2028??   Like people aren't able to fly, drive or take the train to Location X??    Yet sold-out crowds find their way to Pasadena, the Rose Bowl Parade and Game every January 1 like clockwork??

Paralympic Games handover emblem has officially been released:

So, will it be a "pretend" paraplegic Tom Cruise (test of his acting) jumping off the roof of the Stade de France; grabs the Paralympic flag from Mayor Bass, hops to his specially equipped motorcycle -- and then drive off to some SECRET airfield, gets on an unmarked cargo plane -- to LA??

Summer is almost 'officially' over, & it's going to be (& has been the last few days) a triple-digit scorcher in L.A. this weekend:

https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/amid-dangerous-heat-wave-downtown-la-sees-hottest-day-of-the-year-with-100-degrees/

So much for those that have touted over the years that L.A. "never gets too hot". The weather is always "perfect" in L.A. Let's just see what all these recent global weather patterns could mean there come summer of 2028. Even Brisbane last weekend saw triple-digit temps, in what is 'technically' their (tale-end) of winter.

There will be a ceremony tomorrow (12th) at the LA City Hall to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic and Paralympic Flags, with the theme being "Games for All". Present at the ceremony will be Olympians and Paralympians from 1968 and later, and there will be para-fencing demonstrations among other things.

Unfortunately I have an exam earlier in the day so I cannot check it out (if it's even open to the public) 😔

I would have attended but we’re flying out Thursday night and need to be resting. We’re down in Costa Mesa.

Just to confuse people?  Naaah, it was an agreement between Paris' RATP and LA Metro to rename a few stations in both cities as a "passing the baton" from one Summer Olympics host city to the next.

It's always been a myth that Los Angeles has "perfect" weather---YEAR ROUND.

There's always a heat wave, in spring you better bring a jacket to the beach, and in the winter the highs often only get into the 50s, and the lows can get down to the lower 40s and sometimes even into the 30s---Fahrenheit, of course.

The heat wave is over.  Some days ago, it was still in the 90s at 9pm.  Right now, in South Pasadena, at 6:35pm, it's 74 degrees Fahrenheit.

On the bus ride home I saw a metro train in LA28 livery which was pretty cool, makes things feel even more real now.

Unfortunately because I was watching a hockey game on my phone i wasn't able to take a picture, but if I come across it again i'll try to get a photo. (or @ejaycat since you often post on the photos thread - if you come across it, it was an E Line train)

Testing of LAX Inter-Terminal Shuttle Trains

Just took this photo of the new elevated LAX inter-terminal shuttle train track from my hotel window.  There was an actual little shuttle train at the carpark station but I was not quick enough to take photo before it moved off.

(apologies for the “tornado-like” dust streaks on the outside of my hotel window)

Opening of this new LAX shuttle train system must be not far away.  At the actual LAX Terminals themselves, the shiny new shuttle stations are way up high above the buildings and actually look like space-ship docking stations.   They had to go high up because there’s no room left at LAX for lower level placement.  So airport visitors and tourists are going go get a spectaular view of the whole area as they move around.

At LA 2028, this system will also be invaluable in seamlessly moving the hordes around the LAX precinct and onto public and private transport connection hubs.

Here’s hoping, here’s praying in fact, that in 2028 US President Kamala Harris 🙏declares open the XXXIV Olympic Games of Los Angeles,

…. and not that orange-faced buffoon.

That sounds really exciting! The photo must look impressive, even with the dust on the window. It’s great to hear that the shuttle system is almost ready. Those elevated stations really do sound like something out of a sci-fi movie! I can’t believe they had to build them so high up, but it makes sense with the space limitations at LAX. I can just imagine how amazing the views will be from up there! With the 2028 Olympics approaching, having this shuttle system in place will definitely help manage all the extra traffic. It’s going to be a game changer for getting people around the airport and connecting to other transport options.

Thomas Bach, Olympic Champion Fencing, 1976 Basketball, 2028.

otrwxcqy2eee5y0uxwe4

He was in LA, or rather Inglewood for a few days where he watched an NFL game between the Chargers and the Chiefs (which apparently @Taylor Swift did not attend!), and later toured both SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome.

He also met with officials from the cities of LA, Inglewood, and Long Beach.

Finally, he gave the standard praise, then took off to Panama or wherever the IOC Media twitter account said:

“These venues are impressive, the athletes can look forward to an extraordinary experience at the Olympic Games LA28,” the IOC President said following his visit. He continued: “LA28 will do what Paris 2024 did – offer authentic Olympic Games. The Games always represent the sports culture of the host country, and LA has a lot to offer. I am very much looking forward to LA.”

While probably far from the levels we'll see in 2028, the LA area will be seeing six major events Friday:

Game 1 of the World Series @ Dodger Stadium
LA Lakers vs Phoenix Suns @ Crypto.com Arena
USC vs Rutgers @ LA Memorial Coliseum
Concert @ The Forum
Concert @ Intuit Dome
East LA Classic @ SoFi Stadium

LA public transit + traffic + public safety agencies will be put to the test for all of these events, all of which are set to begin between 5:08 PM and 8 PM. I'm sure LA28, Metro, and other orgs will be keeping an eye on how things go down.

Just a few days now until Election Day in the US.

Tense times on both sides of politics and for the LA2038 organising committee I should imagine.

damn if the IOC had to go with us for a winter olympics that must mean they're really out of options huh 😄

(sometimes i wonder if it's theoretically possible to hold a Winter Games in SoCal... at least for sure the ice venues are taken care of)

Anyways, I'll be voting the day before as I assume the lines will be shorter then. I won't disclose much in order to avoid a fight or something in the forums, but I'll just say that the person I'm voting for is someone, who among other things, would probably be a good person to open the LA28 Games in front of the whole world.
