I don't.  It's just a quick and easy access.  But many times, it also includes a lot of info you wouldn't find elsewhere.  Just like ya know, many comments on YouTube postings reveal some unknown info before.  You just have to be skilled enough to filter the chaff from the grain.

Wikipedia can often be a good source of information, especially when things can be found elsewhere.  That said..

2028 Summer Olympics

On that page, it has boxing and weightlifting listed.  It doesn't show spectator capacities, but the sports are there linked to a venue.

Oops.  You're right.  But it was the list farther down (the 2028 "Sports Program" in a box) that no longer includes Boxing & Weightlifting.  This won't let me do a Print-Screen.  My bad.  They haven't taken it down in the upper boxed listings.

So, Wikipedia is still accurate in one sense and up-to-date in another.  So it is still factual.

‘Ninja Warrior’ Competition May Feature in 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Tokyo Broadcasting System Television (TBS) has announced that its signature “Sasuke” (aka “Ninja Warrior”) obstacle course series may inspire a new addition to the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The broadcaster, which operates one of Japan’s five major terrestrial TV networks, is partnering with World Obstacle, the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO) and the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) to test a “Sasuke”-like competition for inclusion in the Modern Pentathlon, which currently consists of five disciplines: fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, laser pistol shooting, and running. In May, UIPM announced that it would test an obstacle course as a possible replacement for the horseback discipline, following the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

One of the two obstacle sports under consideration is Ninja Competitions, which is derived from the  “Sasuke” programs that have been a TBS fixture since their start in 1997 and are now viewed in 160 countries around the world. Also, more than 20 local versions of the show have been produced.

The first test competition will be held in Ankara, Turkey under UIPM and FISO auspices on June 27 and 28, following the 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Final. TBS is supplying a Ninja Warrior obstacle course used for filming local versions of the “Sasuke” format in Europe.

FISO president Ian Adamson said in a statement: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with TBS and the UIPM on the new 5th discipline. Obstacles have a long history in pentathlon, and introducing a new discipline that is practiced and watched by millions of people in over 160 countries in the form of ”Sasuke’ [Ninja Warrior’] shows has the potential to widen the audience for all stakeholders and enhance the appeal of the sport on the Olympic program.”

Yea, I see what you're talking about.  The section above the sports program makes the note about boxing and weightlifting and how they're not on the provisional program, but could be reinstated if their respective governing bodies get their act together.  Thus, Wikipedia is indeed accurate

Surprised they didn't push for this in the 2020 program indeed of going for 2028.  Don't think this is going to gain much traction unless it can prove it is indeed an international competition worthy of being in the Olympics.  Far easier said than done

Another series addition to the LA28 logos

For some reason ITG seems to be rather late on reporting a lot of things, the new A's were announced 5 days ago

Came across this video which shows almost all the stadia and arenas of the greater LA area, extending all the way to San Bernardino (like 80 miles east).  From new, state-of-the-art arenas to barely surviving small-college fields.  (Actually, it forgot to show the Dedeaux Field of USC which will become the main Swim venue for 2028).

It's also a good primer for what will be many training sites for World Cup 2026.  And of course, one could go even farther to the San Diego and SF Bay Areas for even more stadia and arenas.  Nor does the video mention to future home of the LA Clippers beside SoFi and the Forum.  No wonder LA could host both the Olympics and the World Cup back-to-back in 6 months' notice.

The only venue LA 2028 will really lack is 2000m regatta basin within 50 mi of OV and downtown LA.  I don't know why they can't excavate that out in Sepulveda Basin -- and make it a permanent rowing venue for UCLA and the other universities of the area.

That's gonna be tough with these four team sports. Netball and Flag Football have never in the Olympics, so 2028 might be their debut.

World Netball has spent years sabotaging the development of the men's game so there's little chance it'll get introduced to the Olympics.

The wait for the 2028 Olympics is now going to be a week shorter!..

L.A.’s 2028 Olympics will go from July 14 to July 30

Was originally scheduled from July 21st through August 6th.  Paralympics now slated to start August 15th

Not a week shorter, just starting a week earlier.

The Los Angeles 2028 Bid Book had the proposed dates for the Olympics as July 21 until August 6.

The Paralympic Games had originally been proposed for August 22 until September 3.

Almost five years after having been awarded the 2028 Games, for info this is a link to the page formally requesting that the Gamesbids.com administrators properly upgrade this website so that Los Angeles 2028 is given the prominence and visibility on Gamesbids.com as anofficially confirmed Olympic Host City - not hidden away under “2024 bids”:

Yes, *the wait until* the 2028 Olympics is now a week shorter, which is what I actually said.  Did you really interpret my comment to imply I thought the Olympics would be a week shorter?

My apologies, you’re absolutely right.  I didn’t read it correctly.

This is super early and is going to have implications for major sport events. The Tour de France usually runs for the first three weeks of July for instance, it usually starts in late June when the Olympics start in July but I don't think it can start earlier than that. The Tour and the Olympics are probably going to run concurrently for a least a week. Maybe the LA28 schedule will adapt by having the Cycling road events on the final weekend of the games.

I’m not sure the TdF would like to run in parallel for a week. Max the overlap for the final TdF/first Olympics weekend because of the time difference, but not more. They’ll just start a week earlier too. EURO 2028 will also need to look at its schedule possibly.

God, if an OGs and other major meets have been delayed a year and others 2 years, surely moving an annual event a week or 10 days here and there isn't going to be the end of the world, is it?  And considering France would have been the just=expired host by 2028 -- that wouldn't be a very sporting gesture, would it?   Plus, coincidentally, 2028 will actually be opening on France's National Day, so . . . .

And the new dates also mean that UCLA and USC have locked in their academic calendar years for 2027-2028.  The 2028 Games will only be possible with the cooperation of the two universities.  Everything else just follows.

I don't say get to say this often, but.. baron is exactly right.  Given all the schedule changes and postponements due to the pandemic, this is small potatoes.  Everyone involved will make this work.  Not sure what the Tour will do since they probably would have liked having a big stage on Bastille Day with the final stage that Sunday but perhaps they'll want to avoid that now.  Either way, everyone now knows when the Olympics will be held.  They'll adjust if they feel it's necessary

The more interesting question is why have they moved them, and how far are the IOC willing to be flexible - enough to allow somewhere like Tokyo or non-Brisbane Australia to host at a more suitable time of year? I thought they were fully locked, that the opening ceremony had to be on the third or fourth Friday in July.

I think the dates are kinda funny, since the IOC "timeframe" window of the Summer Olympics, are July 15th-Aug. 31st. So L.A. 2028 is already in VIOLATION by starting on July 14th!  But then again, maybe they don't count the ceremonies as being part of the actual Games, since those won't start until the 15th anyway lol.

An interesting tidbit of Olympic trivia, though. Is that by those dates, L.A. 2028 will mark only the third time in Olympic history (& the first time in over 100 years [& also not being simultaneously part of a World's Fair), that a Summer Olympics will have taken place *entirely* in the month of July (1912 & 1924 being the other two solely July Summer Games).
