If so, I hope they'll mull things over a bit more closely. After all, a public conversation - with both pro and con opinions about Issue A or Topic B - about the Olympics doesn't exist just about anywhere else. There's a video posted to the official Olympic channel at Youtube about how the people who designed the 2012 logo were sort of blindsighted when they unveiled their masterpiece and got negative feedback. HUH? They didn't expect that? That's when I realized that various people do live on different planets. Now that's what I'm talking about. That's the angle that posts in this thread should go for: About the 2028 Olympics, not someone's opinion of my opinion. The former is the reason for this thread, the latter become OT and uninteresting. This to me is the ideal time for an opening: When the sun is still somewhat up and the total darkness of night (and a more gloomy vibe) isn't affecting an event. Sure, there is artificial lighting, big-time drone displays, fireworks, photo mapping, etc. But that should be reserved for a closing. By contrast, the sun and the idea of the start of a new day go together better. I also like this segment because it has a universal, international tone. Even more so after witnessing the games in 2012, a host city can look hack and provincial if it goes the route of "I, I, I," "me, me, me." Believe me, if someone someday ever care even a little about the people opinion in ceremonies, they will go after social media like twitter, facebook or even scrolling youtube comments, and guess what they really like, the massive thechnological props of sochi 2014, the fireworks displays of beijing 2008, the pop references all over london 2012, the carnival aura of rio 2016 and the quirkiness of the pictogram segment in tokyo 2020. They don't really care even a little about "oh look at the amazing speech by thomas bach, that was so serious and formal, definitely the best part of the cermony" most of the people incluiding me just care about my country or latino-countries in the athletes parade and comment which country had the most different look. Then is all about how the country presents itself in the artisitc segment, how will the cauldron be lit, how will the rings appear in the stadium.... But anyway, it's so innocent form you to think that a ceremony costing hundreds of million of dollars will be specificaly adapted to your likes.

You don't strike me as someone who the LA OOC would want to have a conversation with because you're just going to make the same tired points repeatedly and then insult differing opinions. Like I said, you're in the right place to discuss Olympic ceremonies. I still don't think you're grasping the point that you're somewhat on an island here and you think the rest of us are crazy for it. I know this may seem like a foreign concept to you, but you don't actually have to tell us in every single post that you didn't like 2012. Maybe at some point give us some thoughts on another Olympics. But I digress... 58 minutes ago, Olympics2028 said: Now that's what I'm talking about. No.. night allows for visual effects you can't get during the day. Again, that's why we've only seen 1 daytime opening ceremony in the last 30 years. Television considerations will come into play, so I'm sure the ceremony will start in the daylight. And most of the parade of nations will be in the daylight. So we'll see how they schedule everything out if there's certain things that can only happen after sunset. Of course, the tagline behind LA2028 is "follow the sun," so I'm guessing they'll try to incorporate that into the ceremony as some sort of theme. I also admit that I'm not the typical viewer of an Olympics ceremony. Most show-biz-type entertainment isn't my thing. My attention starts to wander off when hundreds of people are on a stage jumping around, doing dance routines. To each his own. I think that watching thousands of athletes march into a stadium also becomes dull or tedious. Yet the Olympics is for them, not me. But I've still wondered how that segment can be shortened or sped up. The summer games are sort of the college graduation ceremony for athletes, both in the opening and closing. So marginalizing them against the entertainment segments is inappropriate. But as I was watching the 1992 opening, as one example, I was thinking, okay, enough with the cirque-du-soleized dance numbers, more of the Olympics and its participants please. It's a balancing routine.

The opening apparently worked fine with various degrees of sunlight in 1984, so there's no reason why it can't work again in 2028. The opening of a games at night didn't begin until 1992 in Barcelona. After watching segments of that event on yesterday, it didn't seem to help it all that much. However, the darkness may have improved the fashion-show section a bit since the models on the runway could be lit up using spotlights. Okay, sorry. I'm being sarcastic again. My bad. Olympics2028
I want the 2028 OOC, the IOC and Casey Wasserman in particular to watch this: I've been to figure out why so many OOCs and their many employees and contractors have been fans of a Cirque-du-Soleil format. Or, increasingly too, the idea of the Olympic games - or things and people around it - as sort of a cheap joke. The anti-stuffed-shirt, pro-proletarian routine does have its limits.
Olympics2028
I obviously don't agree with what this guy says about 2012, although he did say it was "weird" too. Beyond that, I don't want the 2028 OOC to have any type of business-as-usual agenda. Although the Olympic charter says that hosts are supposed to have themes about the host city and country, I want the LA group to throw that out. 1984 and 1996 have already dealt with "LA" and "US," and 2012 dealt with "Hollywood." Okay, London/UK are a different part of show business, movies and pop music. But "bad Hollywood" is bad wherever you go, whether in London or LA. 2028 should drop any idea of hyping the city or country. Maybe limiting things to just bit of "LA" and "America" is okay, but just a bit. The 2028 games should instead present themselves as hosted by the entire world. Olympics2028
It's sad that this presentation didn't occur. It probably would have been really cool. Very anime-esports hip. The segment featuring Naomi Watanabe (a comedienne who likes to mimic Beyonce) as the guardian of the 1964 games would have been quite moving. The only thing the 2020 OOC left out was a salute to fashion designers in Tokyo. There certainly are counterparts to Victoria Beckham in Japan, aren't there?:

For one thing, something about SoFi Stadium makes me think the format of a ceremony will fall flat. It will be similar to the difference between the classic 1964-era National Stadium in Tokyo compared with the largely enclosed one that replaced it. Also, if they hold the opening in SoFi, the 2028 OOC may be tempted to spend (and waste) money on a new cauldron. Given what happened in Tokyo, please, 2028 OOC, just say no. It was the idea of the LA Olympic and was an integral part of their Bid for the Games. The IOC liked it and they voted for LA as Host City in 2028. Opening and Closing Ceremonies across two Stadiums in 2028 is happening. It’s a done deal.
Olympics2028
The 1992 opening was the first time the start of an Olympics was at night. I think it's also the first time the Olympic format became Cirque-du-Soleilized and the infield was covered with a vinyl tarp or whatever. The natural look of grass was no longer Earth friendly enough? This is a segment from Barcelona I've never seen before, but to me it's impressive. It's the only time I'll say that the use of a lot of fabric served a good purpose. Instead of people dressed up to look like plants, bugs or space aliens, however, it was a huge Olympic flag. The kids after that bit were amazing too. But the 1992 producer, as often happens, didn't use the choir enough. He also had instruments that sounded like kazoos (some traditional Spanish instrument?) performing during the moment with the kids. Then opera singers came out and went on for way too long without any choral back-up. In today's world, the opposite extreme will occur. OOCs will hire, for a major segment, rap singers instead of opera singers. Either way, without the accompaniment of a full-sized choir, it won't work.
