yoshi Posted October 26, 2017 Report Posted October 26, 2017 Strange top isn't it - looks like a ball. Nice looking thing though, it'd make a very nice football trophy if scaled down a lot Quote
Nacholympic Posted October 27, 2017 Report Posted October 27, 2017 It's another "giant torch" a la Athens 2004... And the flame burns inside a "ball" as in Rio Quote

Ikarus360 Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 Looks like the Cauldron was officially presented , alongside a render (even though we knew for a good bunch of time how it looked like ) Youngse Kim, who also designed the Olympic Torch and is the boss of Inno Design (http://www.innodesign.com/) , also designed the Cauldron. http://www.diariosigloxxi.com/texto-ep/mostrar/20171102144007/pebetero-pyeongchang-tradicion-corea-sur-abrazada-cinco-continentes According to the article (in spanish), it meants to represent the traditional Korean porcelain jar. Each of the 5 sides of the Cauldron represent the union of the 5 continents. It will be illuminated by LED during night with the colors of the Olympic rings. The cauldron will remain on the site after the Games as part of the Legacy, after the stadium is dismounted. Also this is the design of the relay cauldrons I assume the design is pretty much inspired by Woljeongsa Temple's Pagoda Quote
Nacholympic Posted November 5, 2017 Report Posted November 5, 2017 So.... the cauldron was inspired on Korean ceramics... Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 5, 2017 Report Posted November 5, 2017 ^^ Yup. Same for the torch. Joseon Dynasty liked the use of white porcelain (with some blue patterns) on their art. Quote
Kenadian Posted January 15, 2018 Report Posted January 15, 2018 It looks like the Death Star caught in a whisk. Or an onion. Quote
olympiaki-agones Posted January 17, 2018 Report Posted January 17, 2018 I'm getting excited by these games. I remember perfectly Seoul'88, I was a kid and such event made me more aware of time. The Seoul OC's music was boring to me, but once the meaning of each sequence was known, then it becomes artistic and interesting to watch over. I guess PyeongChang 2018 might ressemble a bit of Nagano, but with more hi-tech management and a lovely glance of Korean folk. 1 Quote

The directors and producers are letting spectators dance to the music while the athletes are marching around the stadium. Quote
PikyoK Posted January 17, 2018 Report Posted January 17, 2018 I'd also like to listen to the music when the torch arrives and the cauldron is lit. Quote
olympiaki-agones Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 I hope they improve musicalization, because Seoul'88 was great the usage of the stage along the field. But the music really makes me yawn. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 25, 2018 Report Posted January 25, 2018 I've seen some media has been calling this an Olympic Cauldron. It's being built at the center of Alpensia, though i'm not sure if this is an actual cauldron or just part of the Olympic sculptures being built over Pyeongchang. If its the former they might be doing a repeat of Rio 2016 with a smaller, more accessible cauldron for people. Quote
