No; it has to be a woman.  The last 5 Olympics held in the US, men have lit the cauldron.  Not a single woman yet.  Time for a woman.

You sure that you want to rule out Truffmp then?!

Fake woman!  It has to be a REAL woman!  Caitlin Jenner would beat the sh*t outta Ms. tRuffmpie if they had to fight for it!!

Ugh, NOT Caitlyn. That douchebag isn't liked by anyone!

But if we're going to choose a woman, then how about Simone Biles if she comes back in 2020 and equals or improves her medal count from 2016?

Or we couls have the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus. They've won 8 gold medals total.

Or going back to gymnastics, how about all female all-around gold medalists, or the magnificent 7!

That's why I named Biles in my very first post in this topic.  Or, if she's still around -- and they do a combination of new, young and old -- maybe Joan Benoit Samuelson, being the very first woman marathon runner who won it in LA 1984; maybe Evelyn Ashford, too.  +  some new ones who will probably shine in 2020 and 2024.

The Williams sisters are too commercial IMHO.

Mary Lou Retton.

She's a female, and is synonymous with the previous LA Olympics.

But can she reach the cauldron?

Seriously, I think they (or I) would go for:

a.  the oldest surviving gold medalist at the time, or a granddaughter of a 1932 medalist (maybe African-American);

b.  Mary Lou Retton and/or Joan Benoit Samuelson representing 1984; and

c.  some new LA-born (Latina? Asian? Paralympian?).athletes from 2020 and 2024 to represent 2028

So all bases covered!!

And what is Alan Abrahamson about my comment? Is it about Caitlyn? It's only a fact most of the LGBT community does not like that twat because she continues to be a republican and support republican policies even though they will always be against transgender rights.

I wonder if there are any Olympians, male or female, who have gone on to a successful career in acting…

being a fan of both movies and sports, I should probably know it, but I can't think of anyone right now.

Well, Bob Mathias did well in the 2 or 3 movies he made, before entering politics.

Considering certain points as lack of knowledge related to international culture, it must exist for someone the idea of 2015 related to Caitlyn Jenner as a LGBT figure before these disastrous 2 years as aftermath.

And LeBron was really good in Trainwreck and could have a career by then. But, I think the Williams Sisters (straight outta Compton) are by far the most likely choice. Honestly, how do you justify anyone else other than them or Phelps?

Greg Louganis.

And then after the cauldron(s) is/are lit, a supermarket checker (a la 1984) can sing an old song that's in 3/4 time; instead of "Reach Out and Touch Somebody('s Hand)," he or she could sing Burt Bacharach's "What the World Needs Now Is Love."  You gotta have Burt Bacharach in the opening ceremony, right?  If not the actual guy (if he's even alive in 2028), at least one of his enduring songs. :P
