Well, you know the Swedish Olympic committee or what they call itself. It has been trying for years to get the Winter Olympics, but fail each time. Guardian
Yes, there is the Summer Olympics medal tally list, too. Of course, the USA is way in front there. I don't think it will be caught on that front for many Olympiads to come.
Guardian
With one year to go before Torino 2006, speculations amongst you members will start to climb about how many Olympic medals your country may win at these upcoming Winter Olympics. Judging by the table so far, the USA will take second place over the former USSR team for overall medals ever since 1924. Canada may climb a ranking or two, if it does really well. What about Germany: the overall winner for 1998 and 2002? Will it do it three times in a row? Which nation do you think will take the top spot in Torino 2006? micheal_warren
umm i dont think that new zealand will win any medals in torino but our male curling team is ranked about 7th in the workd so you never know there could be a suprise by our curling team who could sneak in with a bronze. Maybe but i will be extremly suprised if we do, New Zealand has only ever won a silver medal and that was in 1992 in womens alpine skiing

baron-pierreIV
By the way, this does include the figure skating medals of 1908 and 1920, with the ice hockey medals of 1920: In the figure skating events of 1908, old imperial czarist Russia did send a team of 1 or 2 skaters. Nikolai Panin won the gold in the now-discontinued Special Figures-Men event. So that should be included in your Russia medals. Cordelia18
I dont know which one of these classifications is the good one but I find them both disappointing. Are you sure they're reliable? ??? I can't see neither France nor Canada in the top 10 (Canada's 10th in Guardian's tally but this is still surprising), which is a bit weird. Italy's rank really seems to be too good to be true. And considering their results I can't understand how Switzerland could be placed after Finland. During each winter games Switzerland has better results than Finland, which apart from hockey and ski jump doesnt win many medals. Same thing for France. France has always won many medals in figure skating, alpine skiing, and we're also good in snowboard (Doriane Vidal, Isabelle Blanc...). Another detail: people seem to be prejudiced about Russia and often imagine this country to be one of best ones in winter sports (because it's cold over there and because they grab a lot of medals in summer games): but these people just get wrong, Russia has awfully bad results at each winter games. No one will be surprised if I state they're bad at skiing, bad at bobsleigh, skeleton etc,..The only sports where they can win medals are hockey and figure skating. But even in these sports where they used to be the only masters they're far from being the best nowdays. So I wonder where all their medals come from and how can they be placed before countries like Canada, France or Switzerland.
