intoronto
Well no NHL at the 2018 Games... Get ready for European domination
BTHarner
I'll believe it when I see a schedule for next season with games scheduled between February 9th and 25th, or once they announce a site for All Star weekend, meaning there likely will be no Olympic break. BTHarner
Well, the league announced a few weeks ago that Tampa would be the site of 2018 All-Star Weekend and it released the 2017-18 schedule yesterday. I'm now convinced that there will be no NHL participation.
Durban Sandshark
Schedule's up. Even with no NHLers to look forward to in the men. Look for a lot of overnight/early morning skating and some simultaneous prelims with the gold medals in the later evening our time (at least for us in the US/Canada/Mexico CT and ET--west coasters not too bad): CBC: Pyeongchang 2018 Men's And Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Schedules
Durban Sandshark
2018 Nike Olympic jerseys now released--Lightest Nike hockey jerseys ever, No waist stripes, Reduced cresting size (bit disappointing), No collar lines or design, Heat-applied numbering Canada and the USA unveiled theirs Wednesday with the rest yesterday. Not big of a fan of those color-amplifying grandients on many of these jerseys. The swoosh is inspired by a skate's ice blade. Do worry that the numbering will peel off during the games. Meanwhile, Russia nearly goes on retromode with its design from 20 years ago in Nagano when Nike first took over the IIHF/Olympic jerseys. South Korea's jerseys looks livelier outside the Olympics with its recent editions up to this. Great disappointment there. Ditto for Germany with the crest moved upwards. Sweden's traditional Sweden with the Tre Kronor.
Durban Sandshark
Did you notice that Norway's has a Viking ship subliminated on its new Nike Olympic hockey jersey?
Durban Sandshark
The KHL may give Olympic hockey next February another serious participation hit with its stars if Russia gets kicked out of Pyeongchang over doping. Not good if that happens: https://www.sbnation.com/2017/11/4/16606486/2018-olympics-russia-doping-ban-khl-hockey-participation
Durban Sandshark
When Nike brought out its Pyeongchang 2018 hockey jerseys, some nations' styles were omitted like Japan and Switzerland. Now we got the photos. When there's more forthcoming, I'll send them to you. All in the same style pattern except for traditionalist Sweden and a little bit of Russia. Also, know your total 47 on-ice Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic hockey male and female refs and linesmen from 13 participating nations. Actually France sends a female linesman and Austria submits a male ref. Neither nation qualified for this. Many are Winter Olympic first-timers but still hold great World Championship experience--for a combined 135 participations. No South Koreans in the bunch likely because South Korea has yet to, outside of this Winter Olympics, have refs and linesmen who experienced officiating at the highest level of international ice hockey and do it very well: http://pyeongchang2018.iihf.hockey/men/news/first-olympic-participants/
Durban Sandshark
Captain and leading points scorer Yekaterina Smolentseva, a four-time Olympian, and Inna Dyubanok, Yekaterina Lebedeva, Yekaterina Pashkevich, Anna Shibanova, and Galina Skiba got the entire Russian women's hockey team's records that made the QFs erased from Sochi and all six got banned for life that are unlikely to stand. A seventh case is pending. Team is still able to compete but it's up to the IOC to reject Russia's prospective list: http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2017/12/12/russia-hockey-players-women-olympic-ban-doping/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2017/12/12/ioc-bans-six-russian-womens-hockey-players-over-doping/943639001/ https://www.theicegarden.com/2017/12/12/16766608/team-russia-olympic-doping-scandal-six-russian-players-banned-for-life-in-womens-hockey-pyeongchang

Gangwon
42 years since Germany last medalled in hockey. Would be pretty cool to see them on the podium. Now's as good a chance as any.

SkiFreak
That was an ugly 2nd period. My money is now on the Czechs. Here's hoping the Ruskies are doping!
Ikarus360
After so many years of seeing Canada on the absolute pinnacle of Olympic hockey, it does feel very weird to not see them winning again. Even more weird that the champion will be either Germany or Russia. I guess we're all going to root for Germany this sunday. I remember many from Nordic countries were very confident this was going to be their year ever since it was confirmed the NHL would not send players. Guess this proved them wrong
Gangwon
Good for Germany! Hope they can take the gold, but I won't be holding my breath.
