The 2017 Canada Summer Games is well underway right now on Canada's 150th birthday. But on YouTube no full Opening Ceremony exists that took place at the Bell MTS Place, the home of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets and its top affiliate the AHL's Manitoba Moose, in downtown Winnipeg. Was televised live on TSN and RDS up there with each televising 40 hours. The Closing Ceremony will be at the Investors Group Field on August 13. So this series of clips will have to suffice. Interesting that the delegations all come out behind the curtain as opposed to an open space. Oh yeah, PM Justin Trudeau, the current Rolling Stone magazine cover boy and one who's really popular with the youth like all across Canada thus he's not out of place here, Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister, and I think Elizabeth May from the Green Party are all attendance just to name a few. Everybody, the kids included, seems to be young and energetic at this gathering having fun!

I think I would have had more interest in the now-defunct US Olympic Festival if it was broken down into teams by state just as this has teams representing provinces.

I agree with BTHarner - The biggest mistake the USOC made with the National Sports Festival/U.S. Olympic Festival was using the generic North, South, West, and East as teams.  I think they should have had state teams and only individual events - no team sports - I think it would have generated much more interest from the average person.  Rooting for your home state is much more exciting than rooting for some generic direction - Go East! sounds like a travel direction rather than a cheer. (lol)

Nah.  Logistics would have been, WERE too much to do the 50 states + territories thing.  And what about the little states?  No. Dakota, RI, Maine, Iowa -- they would be woefully under-represented, athletically,  if it were a state thing.  Plus, the psychology there in making the generic N-E-W-S squads was that, if you are going to be sponsored by the USOC and compete in a USA unifrom, you no longer a Carolingian or a Hawaiian or a Northeaster.  You are now an "American" representing a whole nation -- and competing into 4 abstract teams was the first step in that direction.  Leave the 50-states thing for Miss USA and Miss America.  The USOC events are about "teamwork" -- not individual stars.  The USOC was right to go that way.

This audiovisual essay on the London 2012 opening ceremony was meant to come out a fortnight ago, but boy oh boy it took a long time to make.

At the moment, it's not indexed as public on YouTube- if anybody spots any disastrous mistakes, I'll upload a revised version, otherwise I'll make this one public next week.

OK, not quite the Olympics, but some of the talents behind this show, worked on LA-84's ceremonies.   You can tell by the choreography and same formations used in LA-1984 Opening.  This clip reminds me of the communist-produced shows built solely on mass formations...

Here;s a normal-speed of the Band portion -- and instead of the 862-size used in LA, they shrunkit down to just 500.  Why?  Smaller field here.

Am still looking for the Liza Minnelli number (the one where there are like 800 "Liza Minnelluni's" (drag et al.) out there on the filed.  It's pure 100% camp.

Well, I apologize in advance, because this is gonna be long...but Baron Pierre asked for it! (lol)

Here is what can be found on youtube of Liberty Weekend the 1986 rededication of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.  Liberty Weekend was produced by David L. Wolper, the man who produced the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

Opening Ceremony on July 3

The Parade of Tall Ships (Operation Sail '86) on July 4

The Boston Pops Concert July 4

The Classical Music Concert on July 5 in Central Park (Some 800,000 people crammed into the park to watch the concert - a world record at the time.) This is from French TV.

And finally, here is the only clip of the July 6 closing ceremonies at Giants Stadium on youtube (aside from the one posted by Baron Pierre above) - Liza Minnelli sings New York in HD.

And, finally, here is a poor quality recording of 4 and 1/2 hours of highlights of the entire weekend's festivities - which may contain footage not included above.

/\/\  It's still missing the footage of a whole infield of Liza M. clones.  I think it was a lead-up to her solo part there.

Are you confusing it with the 2006 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony where they had a whole infield full of "1000 Commonwealth Dames" (i.e. Dame Edna lookalikes) to accompany Dame Edna's song?

Nope.  Liberty Celebrations was 20 years before Melbourne 2006.  There was one of the Lizas; but somehow no footage of it has surfaced.   DIdn't know there was a whole infiled of Dame Edna.  I have to find that.

I thought these were posted before, but here are the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne (BBC coverage). The Dame Edna segment is in the closing ceremony it starts at 1:21:30 when she unexpectedly interrupts an athlete speaker and ends at 1:32:55. BTW, these were among my all-time favorite ceremonies - the visuals were absolutely stunning! I have the TVNZ coverage of these ceremonies (long story!) and the TVNZ announcers commented that the Indian announcers in the booth to their left had a horrified look on their faces when all of these Dame Ednas started marching out on the field! (lol)

In honor of Monday's eclipse, here is the Director's cut of the Lighting of the Baku 2015.  It's really quite a fantastic moment.  I just realized after watching this that they had a second "cauldron" out in the waterfront, too!!   PanAM, please DON'T start putting up like TWENTY other clips in response to this!  No need.

Today was the Double Ceremony day with both Openings (the SEA Games and the Universiade).

Universiade ceremony (which parade of nations was sadly botched because of the Pension protests) is still not full on FISU account.

The good news is, we found a better microphone and re-recorded the entire voiceover for the public version of the video. The bad news is we almost lost the will to live while doing so. The other good news is that the opportunity was taken to add dozens more pictures, and tweak some bits of information. The other bad news is, the thumbnail stands out at small size in YouTube lists, but it really smacks you in the eye at large size, as seen here:

Melbourne 2006 ceremonies were fantastic, one of the most surprisingly brilliant and beautiful ceremonies segments I've seen with *under the Milky Way* .

I agree with you.  Even though I don't relate to the CWGs, I think those ceremonies were really quite exceptional and so CREATIVE  -- among my top 4!

Perhaps more remarkable in the fact that the creative direction was changed completely mid way through the ceremonies project with Artistic Director Nigel Jamieson resigning and Andrew Walsh taking over.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is currently hosting the 2017 SEA Games right now that includes ice hockey for the very first time in it. But we got Saturday night's Opening Ceremony from Bukit Jalil National Stadium that with this nearly 3.5-hour live streaming video includes the pre-show. Wish the Olympics would do likewise with beyond the proper countdown:

This was taken from PTV Philippines. There's the official SEA Games feed along with the Sport Singapore ones with the pre-show co-hosted by 3 guys and 1 woman. All wearing Malaysian flag-inspired shirts. Malaysia actually had three flagbearers when they marched, which I wonder is that a first. Another thing is the removal of multiple sports from the program.

Having finally seen the first Goodwill Games for the first time ever, I must wonder and notice immediately that there were aspects of the Moscow Opening Ceremony from 1980 were reprised for this and must have had the same people behind it. Seems as though there was a second chance to get things to be noticed for Americans who couldn't watch it the first time around six years earlier as far as the Opening Ceremony is concerned due to the boycott.

Here is a nice new find:

ABC's tape delayed broadcast of the 1991 Special Olympics World Summer Games Opening Ceremony at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, hosted by Frank Gifford.  Prince's performance of "Diamonds and Pearls" at the ceremony is not shown in the telecast, but a video of his complete performance is on the Dailymotion video website.

I noticed that too, and my favorite part is the human vase at the end.  They outdid the 1980 ceremony - instead of five small vases they did one GIANT vase and under the floodlights and with that same beautiful dramatic music it was spectacular.  And they found a way to "light" the cauldron with it, too!

The opening ceremony Kuala Lumpur was ok, though kind of been there done that and a bit heartless. Though at least we didnt got the annoying announcers Singapore 2015 had. Also the cauldron was reminiscing of Vancouver 2010 save it was just one pillar this time :P

Taipei Universiade was a bit more chaotic due to the mess of the parade of nations and the small size of the ground LED screen, but even with that i felt it was kind of fun and a bit reminiscing at parts to Beijing 2008. The lightning of the cauldron was pretty cool.
