Ikarus360 Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 An opening ceremony in Saint Dennis could had been still very great but alas, the french as always wanted to "be different". I still have second thoughts about their plans for 2024 but maybe it can actually be good. Only time will tell. Quote
panamfan Posted May 29, 2022 Report Posted May 29, 2022 FYI: The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games Opening Ceremony will take place next Sunday, June 5th at 9:00AM ET in Exploria Stadium in Orlando. Unfortunately "the French" wouldn't have had much say over it, as the opening ceremonies of the Champions League finals are now done entirely by and for Pepsi. It's only a very minor part of the final overall (the match is what matters) but it does make the whole thing feel a little bit more soulless, with no nod to the host city or its culture at all - just a little concert and firework display by whoever didn't get picked for the Super Bowl... It's more civilized than the awful ghetto feel of the Super Bowl half-times. But it's still too Shakira-ish. There's very little you can really do on a football field needed for play in a few minutes. Funny that it's more Spanish than English. Quote

Agreed. All for the sake of pandering to America and trying to get their interest, they screwed up the CL ceremonies and americanized them as much as they could. They're pretty much discount Superbowl Halftime shows at this point. I miss the old format a lot. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted June 2, 2022 Author Report Posted June 2, 2022 Here's a halfway decent one with some GREAT photography and such clear resolution! The 2015 Finals. As these things go, it's a fairly good try. Quote

We've posted other ceremony videos on this thread which were in other languages descriptions, but on which we put the description ourselves in the post, and now all of the sudden its a problem? Anyway....the explanatory text of this video (2005 Mediterranean Games opening ceremony) which i'm sure we posted before is not in english either. Is there a proble with it too? Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted June 5, 2022 Author Report Posted June 5, 2022 The point is -- one really can't relate to the video if there isn't even an English or western-language translation CC to go with it. Why are you being so defensive? THe video with Spanish and/or western language can communicate to the regulars here. The other one can't -- so to me, it's just a wasted effort. So why even post it? Post something that people can RELATE to/understand a context to some degree. I was curious about that video but I think the poster owes it to the posters here to least PROVIDE some basic info -- even as a courtesy. Quote

They put "Opening Gala for 3rd GCC Games Kuwait 2022" in the description. What more can you ask from that? And if the question is regarding the event itself, you know Google exists, no? I found the information about the event in literaly 2 seconds with just the name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_GCC_Games Quote

Olympics2028 Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 Everyone getting in on the Olympics-ceremony act. It requires a bit of patience for for me to sit through an IOC-sponsored opening/closing, but for ceremonies hosted by other organizations? Yikes. I was "spamming" the LA 2028 Ceremonies thread earlier this year, but that's only because those games involve my backyard and because "Hollywood" through the years has made a mess (IMHO) of a lot of Olympic ceremonies. And not because I really enjoy watching ceremonies (or Super Bowl halftime events), sponsored by the IOC or otherwise. I watched a few minutes of what's known as the Platinum Jubilee going on in London. Queen Elizabeth didn't parachute into the location but instead was standing stationary. So compared with 2012, it was dull. She then switched on some lights. Those lights led to a string of lights, that led to more lights on a large tree. It was sort of like a tree lighting ceremony you'd see at Christmas. I at first thought it was going to lead to a cauldron. LOL. But as in 2012 or other Olympic ceremonies, there was the use of a lot of photomapping. Images were projected onto the facade of Buckingham Palace. As in 2012, a good time was had by all. Quote

Why don't you go to a site more of your type like 4chan if you like being an edgelord? Also, grow thicker skin if my opinion hurts you so much you have to put me in ignore lmao. Maybe next time stop being a shitlord and nagging others who didn't do anything wrong at all. Quote
Olympics2028 Posted June 11, 2022 Report Posted June 11, 2022 ^ Not with just this with message board but with life in general, everyone is having to increasingly walk on eggshells. Very odd, strange. It's obnoxious, but not in ways that either the accuser or accusee assumes. Or either a Chris Rock or Will Smith assumes. One of the hosts of that particular televised ceremony (but for the movies, not the Olympics) said the incident and the audience's reaction to it afterwards was "gross." I joked in another post about how these trends make me think of gamesbid.com becoming a version of Amber Heard. Or it's as though everyone and everything are becoming a Jada Pinkett Smith. Talking about the "Olympics" ends up being a downer when everyone is so thin skinned and takes things and themselves way too seriously. I like dealing with the IOC and summer/winter games, but not when things are becoming too Orwellian. Quote
Durban Sandshark Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 Some edited highlight footage taken from the Moscow 1980 Opening Ceremony shown from Japan's TV Asahi starting with the parade of nations. At the time TV Asahi was known as NET or Nippon Educational Television and held exclusive Japanese TV broadcasting rights to Moscow 1980. This was a first for Japanese private television to exclusively carry the Olympic Games that, in reacting to this controversial move, prompted public broadcaster NHK and other rival Japanese TV networks to oppose this. Japan eventually followed the Western countries in boycotting the 1980 Summer Olympics. As a result, TV Asahi only aired high profile Olympic events like track and field, swimming, and gymnastics with 68 accreditation cards, and the broadcaster had significant loses in its revenue. Resulting from this, NET, NHK, and other Japanese private/commercial TV networks eventually joined forces to form the Japanese Consortium that's still in effect today ever since. This NET acquisition came about as a result of the close friendship Koshiji Miura had with Ivan Ivanovich, head of the Japanese Section of the International Department of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, that set up a meeting with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev to help obtain these rights. Doesn't really get into the artistic presentation portion: here in this clip like the Friendship Dances of the Soviet Republics, the gymnasts and acrobats, or the Children's Portion with those little Mishas Quote

panamfan Posted July 1, 2022 Report Posted July 1, 2022 10 hours ago, TorchbearerSydney said: Which Olympic Flag was that ...the rings are around the wrong way? The Olympic Flag in Zetra Arena was hung vertically like a banner. So the rings were turned 90 degrees to display correctly as it hung that way. A similar version of the Olympic Flag was used at the closing ceremony in Innsbruck in 1964. 1 Quote
