Ceremonies on UTube, Part 3

Recommended Posts

/\/\  Caught like the last 20 mins.   Not very over-the-top; a little more restrained -- but the energy is very western.  Of course, mass displays and a lot of jumping around,  fake energy.  Sort of reminded me of Melbourne 2006.

Oh wait,  I spoke too soon.  The big post-lighting climax just came in.  Those emerging red blossom lanterns (oh wait, are those red-waxed cheese balls  )  just came up.  Really IMPRESSIVE -- but what would have been impressive is if they lit up in various colors and patterns.  But again, they didn't ask me.  -_-

Last week was the 45th anniversary of the saddest moment in Olympic history - the Munich massacre.  To mark this sad anniversary I have located the complete ARD broadcast of the Memorial Service held in Munich's Olympic Stadium on September 6, 1972 in 6 parts.  You can watch the preview versions free online at these links:

Part 1 - Munich Philharmonic performs Beethoven's Eroica Symphony

Part 3 - Remarks of Shmuel Lalkin, Head of the Israeli Delegation

Part 4 - Commemoration of the 11 Israeli victims

The Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games came to a close with this Closing Ceremony at Bukit Jalil National Stadium. Basically it just run of the mill as you would expect in many ways with them. Yet it had energy. Lots of it. And singer Ella with the best salute to Games volunteers I seen anywhere so far:

On that note, I do feel disappointed that we can't enjoy the Los Angeles 1984 Opening Ceremony on YouTube that had the ABC commentary anymore--and I seriously think the Globo version with Galvao Bueno disappeared too. Enjoyed watching it so much so many times after having not seeing in so many years since SpiritOf84 uploaded it. That kickstarted the Olympic love for me. This must be part of the terms of agreement with the US edition of the Olympic Channel hitting. Yet that has yet to show them--and I don't think there's a commentary-free version existing though the audio overdub can be omitted.

Here is an interesting find:

Radio Moscow's English Language Service's coverage of the Moscow 1980 Closing Ceremony! Features a running description of the ceremony in English - including Lord Killanin's entire speech without voiceover.

Radio Moscow's English Language Service's coverage of the highlights of the day's Olympic events on July 27, 1980.

Both clips are from the website PastDaily and are from the Gordon Skene Audio Collection.

WHY??????????????? WHY DID THEY DO THAT TO US????

And Atlanta, Nagano, Sydney, Seoul, and Beijing (at least the OCs, some of the CC's are still there).
