Am aware of that; but I am believe that, especially when several hundred of their security forces got hit by the flu novo-virus, I am sure that preyed on the organizers' minds not to expose everyone needlessly to the harsh elements of the OC. After all, everyone else has to SLOG through another 17 days of the Games.
Shadowriver
Opening ceremony felt cheaper then in Rio, but it feels it better quality then Rio imo. I really impressed with drones also great fireworks they utilized local area very well for them making very nice view and quantity was quite large.

Actually, to me, Rio was far less imaginative than PC's. I wouldn't have glorified the favelas (glorify slums?? ) and the "Carnavale participation for the OC was overkill. PC's balance of all its artistic elements was very restrained and it had great pace. Edited February 15, 2018 by baron-pierreIV

Ikarus360
China has been doing the drone trick lately in Guangzhou, most recently last night during the Chinese New Year celebrations. I think either Tokyo or Beijing 2022 might be able to do the drone show on live, since the weather/winds we're seeing in PC won't be there. TorchbearerSydney
Rio didn't 'glorify slums'....it celebrated high rise living- a celebration of all the peoples of their great cities, from the super wealthy in their penthouses, to the poorest in the favelas. I actually thought that was rather brilliant and inclusive.

Then it showed what a dearth of innovative ideas they had for an OC.
olympiaki-agones
My overall about the OC was well executed. The way to focus on Korean culture with no divisions, was a good outline for the Olympics. i also agree the pace was one of the best parts to be remarkable. Now, I wonder how Beijing 2022 handover will be.

olympiaki-agones
Regarding how the handover may be, and having read from another forum that China might pick the ancient culture glance to focus on the next Winter Games, I guess that is likely possible. Otherwise, it will be a battle of powerful brand-new Asian hi-tech among these 6 years.

Ikarus360
I see someone doesn't get sarcasm here. Anyway, found this, but dunno if its related to the closing or just surrounding events
Ikarus360
The birdman from the opening ceremony which became both famous/infamous with netizens is still making appearances here and then around the Medals plaza, as people are taking pictures with it. For koreans, at least, the birdman is probably what will be most remembered of the opening
baron-pierreIV
OK, you Olympic trivia experts, trivia question: when was the last time ODE TO JOY (or Beethoven's 9th Symphony) was played @ an Olympic Opening or Closing Ceremony? The 5 rings formed by fire though was the Closing moment of the OC. Can't find it on line, but I'll have to pop it in VCR.
