Pui from HK Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 Online forums in China said Shenyang has submitted the bid of 2021 Asian Winter Games. However it is quite low-key that I cannot find any news report on it. According to the forum discussion, it seems that Shenyang faces the problem of inadequate infrastructure. Therefore it is not clear whether Shenyang will be the sole candidate. There are also discussions that the 2021 Asian Winter Games will be awarded to Beijing as a testing event of the 2022 Winter Olympic, yet other said 2021 maybe too rush for Beijing to get all things ready. Anyway, it seems that Shenyang is likely to be a major candidate, if not the sole one, of 2021 Asian Winter Games. Quote
zigzag Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 is there any chance that both Shenyang and Beijing to host the games like Astana-Almaty 2011? Quote
intoronto Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 FWIW, the OCA president asked back in 2015 for the winner of 2022 to host the 2021 AWG as a test event. Quote
thatsnotmypuppy Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 Good idea in theory - but if there are delays in getting the transport and mountain infrastructure in place in time then I'm guessing we see back to back Sapporo Winter Games. Having been to Shenyang it is a nightmare to get around and furthermore the mountains nearby are not really developed at all. Harbin/Changchun maybe. Shenyang - no. Quote
intoronto Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 If it is Beijing, we will likely see all 15 disciplines on the Winter Asian Games program for the first time ever. Would have been nice to see luge this year, would have given India a solid chance to win a gold. Quote
budse Posted February 21, 2017 Report Posted February 21, 2017 OCA will decide the host for the 2021 Asian Winter Games in Ashgabat. http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1047290/updates/26848 Quote
thatsnotmypuppy Posted October 3, 2017 Report Posted October 3, 2017 So the Ashgabat Games are done and still no announcement of the 2021 Asian Winter Games host... Maybe Beijing passed as they need more time for the rapid train and speed skating oval? I don't recall a confirmed bid from Shenyang... Maybe back to Sapporo?? Quote
yoshi Posted October 3, 2017 Report Posted October 3, 2017 If only there was a city in Asia that had hosted the Winter Olympics 3 years before...oh yeah Quote
thatsnotmypuppy Posted October 6, 2017 Report Posted October 6, 2017 I think after Incheon had their underwhelming Games the Koreans are a bit... hesitant. Quote

The Chinese are really grabbing these major events well, aren't they? First this year's Basketball World Cup, then the 2021 Universiade and after that, the Winter Olympics Quote

Olympian1010 Posted November 14, 2019 Report Posted November 14, 2019 I made a profile just to ask this question, so I’d appreciate a response. Has anyone heard anything about these games. People seem convinced they will happen, but I’m not aware of a host yet. Quote
thatsnotmypuppy Posted November 17, 2019 Report Posted November 17, 2019 The OCA has not confirmed anything. With Pyeongchang, Sapporo (again) and Beijing all able to host at short notice I'm guessing they are waiting until everything (sponsors/sport federations) are all lined up. Quote
spielerfrau1 Posted November 2, 2020 Report Posted November 2, 2020 Is there already a decision now? Are the games going to happen? I guess the recent situation does not really help with deciding whether huge events should take place or not. Quote
lilly Posted December 13, 2020 Report Posted December 13, 2020 Yes i feel like, events like these should be reconsidered because of everything going on, except theyre gonna do empty stadiums. But I personally feel like that a lot of people will be against it being held in china. Quote
Bear Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 does anyone know if the AWG were scrapped or if the OCA was waiting for PyeongChang and Beijing to pass before continuing them? Quote
