Thought I'd open a new thread for the 2019 European Games, now officially set to be held in the capital of Belarus, Minsk. Personally, I look forward to seeing preparations as they only have 2 years after the host city was swapped around numerous times (The Netherlands, Kazan/Sochi and now Minsk). The VP of the Belorussian NOC did say they only plan to spend $40 million on the games and that the event will be heavily dependent on existing infrastructure (Which, I think is great). They're also planning on holding only 10-15 sports opposed to Baku's 20.

I did mention that the games will rely on existing facilities however they do intend to build a facility for rhythmic gymnastics (fingers crossed artistic will be held during these games too) that will likely be completed in 2018 and are renovating the Dinamo Stadium so that it is able to host the track & field events -

This is apparently the approved design -

There were a whole lot of other designs but they opted to go for that one. There was a really nice glass roofed one that looked very classy and elegant and way better than the one above, I'll try and find a pic. No info on the logo, slogan or the proposed dates, kinda worrying if you ask me, they've only got 2 years now...

Just another Dictator Games, to be plain honest. The European Games are so far a huge joke so far... Like budse said, EOC needs to learn lessons from OCA and PASO (and even they are also having their own share of issues).

Really sad that the Dutch government withdrew their financial support for these Games. Seems to be getting harder to facilitate any Games. Number of bidders are dropping and organizers are struggling....many Games bigger and smaller are moved, postponed or cancelled.

Just now finding out Minsk is hosting lol. So has the race to host the 2023 European games started/ended yet? Thats only 6 years aways and that's less prep time than the usual 7 years that Olympic host cities get.

I guess they just bring to the first one which appears... Probably Turkey or Hungary LOL!

With European Championships around (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Championships_(multi-sport_event)) which holds the core of the Olympics this event does not have much future, more and more federations will start to jump the ship where is more money and atletics alone in it considering it replaces existing event gurranties that. If this continues EOC probably need to give up and try to plug in to European Championships somehow, since as it is now i don't see how they could play this out. I bet Lukashenko himself or even Putin might not be impressed by it, no body knows that something happened in Baku few years ago.

Actually surprised no one posted this already. The logo was unveiled last month apparently (alongside a new one for the European Olympic Comittes)

Also, despite Lukashenko still being a dictator, it seems he has been moving away from Putin's circle ever since Crimea happened. Guess he finally found out his country didn't had a strong national identity and decided to amend it (for example, he's promoting the use of belarusian language again after many years of almost eradicating it to be replaced by russian)

RUSSIAN COMPANY TO PRODUCE THE OPENING AND CLOSING CEREMONIES OF THE 2ND EUROPEAN GAMES

OCTOBER 09 2018
The Russian company Art City 5 and a Belarusian creative team will be in charge of preparing the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019.

The Russian company led by famous Russian musician and producer Igor Krutoy and the Belarusian State Philharmonic signed a cooperation agreement in Minsk on 9 October. The document was signed by Director General of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Alexander Garbar and Art City 5 General Producer Igor Krutoy.

«For more than half a year we studied the market, negotiated with companies with a similar track record from all over the world and came to a conclusion that the Russian company Art City 5 suits us in terms of its views on organizing the festivities, technical solutions, adaptation of the creative concept, and the general understanding of Belarusian mentality», concluded Yuri Bondar.

«Our main task is to create a team that will make the high-standard show. After all, to create an atmosphere of a chamber hall at the stadium, where each spectator could feel at the epicenter of what is happening - a task that can only be fulfilled by true professionals. I am glad that our company was honored to become part of this team, showing Belarus to the whole world and being competitive as a company capable of implementing such projects», said Igor Krutoy.

The joint team of Belarusian and Russian directors will work on the scenario of the ceremonies, Alexei Sechenov from the Russian side and Alexander Vavilov from the Belarusian side.

The Art City 5 organizes turnkey mass cultural events. The company has organized many large-scale musical projects, international cultural sport events including opening and closing ceremonies of such projects as the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Astana, the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, the New Wave and New Wave Junior song contests, televised music festivals and concerts of Russian singers.

Also, this is Minsk main stadium right now:

Torch relay design and route were unveiled some days ago. They also plan on bringing it to Montblanc, the highest mountain in Europe.

https://minsk2019.by/en/news/1032

The ‘Flame of Peace’ relay will start on May 3 in Rome, Italy. In exactly 50 days, on June 21, the relay will conclude with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron at the main arena of the 2nd European Games - the National Olympic Stadium Dynamo. The European Games flame will visit 55 locations in eight countries (Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Belarus), covering a distance of 7,700 km.

The relay will involve 450 torchbearers, 100 volunteers and 10 'flame keepers'. The flame of the 2nd European Games will be brought to the highest point in Europe - Mont Blanc. Then it will visit the main sights of the countries along the relay route, and arrive in Belarus on May 12, where it will visit the biggest cities as well as the most remote sites in the host country. It will pass through the national park Belovezhskaya Pushcha, raft down the Augustów Channel, visit the estates of famous locals, the castles in Mira and Novogrudok, and descend into the salt mines of Belaruskali.

Augmented reality will have a major role in the opening ceremonies (directed by the same people who did the 2013 Universiade, 2011 Winter Asiad and 2017 Asian Indoor Games ceremonies). Seems like some ceremonies might try to emulate what Pyeongchang did last year with AR as well.

See BT Sport have the UK rights again, though last time that was basically just rebroadcasting the Youtube streams (so the world feed).   They really made a massive mistake not partnering with the EBU, though maybe the EBU didn't want them considering the main federations did their own thing instead.   Still a shame we can't quite have the Eurolympics that Europe deserves, but maybe one day the two will come together.
