Olympian2004
True, and the song sounded a bit too much relaxed for that big moment of farewell. But however, I guess that's what we have to live with - it fits that low budget feel a bit.

Olympian2004
Rominger, Ivete was called "THE super star in Brazil" by the German TV commentator. Is that true? I have never heard of her, I have to admit. And while the Brazilian audience seems to enjoy her, the athletes in front of the stage seem a bit lost. Would be nice if she sang a very famous Brazilian samba or bossa nova as the final song, in order to get also the international spectators engaged. Bezzi
I found this ceremony boring at some times. Everey ceremony was unique and you can't please everyone so it's ok. I think we did a good job. Well done Brazil! Well done Rio!

Olympian2004
I suppose neneu typed one "n" too many. And so it seems to end - the German commentators already bid farewell. Awww, would have been so charming to hear "Cidade Maravilhosa" or something like that as the farewell song.
JMarkSnow2012
As the fireworks begin, it's much more upbeat than the elegaic mood at the end of the London 2012 Paralympic closing.
Olympian2004
And the German broadcast quickly ends completely - the moderator spoke only a few words of farewell. Now that is a very anti-climatic and disappointing end to seven years of Rio's place in Olympic/Paralympic spotlight, at least from a German perspective. I hope you guys still get a bit of live coverage.
JMarkSnow2012
And it's over. UK Channel 4 didn't have single commercial break in the whole thing. Now the heartwarming video compilation ....

Olympian2004
Here in Germany, the video compilation was a very rushed and abbreviated thing. So ARD and ZDF still are somewhat a disappointment when it comes to Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies. I will never forget how in 2012, they showed the Paralympic opening only on tape delay and only parts of the Paralympic closing.
JMarkSnow2012
Adam Hall on UK Channel 4 selecting Liam Malone (NZ) as his hero of the games. Clare Balding quoting Alex Zanardi on inspiration. And then Adam praises Clare as "the face of the games"- and Clare praises mascot Tom. And then they play the "Yes I can" song which introduced us to the whole shebang a couple of months ago, accompanied by full credits and more video moments. Goodnight ! Olympian2004
And instead, the ARD now shows the replay of a political talkshow regarding the xenophobic attacks last week in the German city of Bautzen. They couldn't have chosen a more sobering reminder of how hateful and ugly our world can be. What a downer after that show of harmony, love, tolerance and global understanding that was just presented in Maracana. Ugh! I better go to sleep now, I guess. It was a pleasure, guys - even if I could only join for a few minutes! Keep Rio 2016 in your hearts! Even if I became very silent on these boards, the Cariocas sure warmed my heart with the hospitality they were able to show (due to lower ticket prices and the sheer "supportive nature" of the Paralympics) during the past ten days! And even if the Olympics were slightly more troublesome, Rio sure did a good job! More maybe later in the verdict thread. Obrigado outra vez, Brasil! Sorry for the delay, but my phone, again, f%@$ me during the final part of the event (I hate android). Rushed home because of the rain, since was first time during this period I was caught without a coat (long day, which included a kids' party). She is one of the music powerhouses here, together with a couple of others. She has a kind of "rivalry" with Claudia Leite, who sang the official song of World Cup. The major problem wasn't her, but all other singers who sang before her. Some of them were totally dispensable, but all of them have to sing 3 songs. With the rain, only the die hard survived. Ivete could sing alone, something like Coldplay did in London, and lots of people would have stayed. Suggest watching her shows on YT to see what I mean. I was hoping more of the ceremony. Poor choise and order of music lost the vibe of the beginning of the ceremony, but Ivete helped in the end (together with Sir Phillip's speech). Anyway, for 30 Euros was good enough to watch it live. I think that she is the biggest name on brazilian music currently. Not only in fame, but also in popularity. And, later, she sang her own musics. "Farol" is the newest, but "Sorte Grande" is too famous and "Tempo de Alegria" is, how can i say that, a not official olympic anthem in Brazil's 2016 stadiums. panamfan
Hi! I watched the closing ceremonies on NBC's NBC Sports Network cable channel - they did a nice presentation, but (of course) omitted the OC President's speech as usual. I must say I thought it was a nice ceremony. Beautiful renditions of the Brazilian and Paralympic Anthems. I nice way to end Rio 2016.
Athan
Hello, everyone! In Spain, TVE broadcast the ceremony live and a replay of the full ceremony that has just ended. It was a concert as had been announced so it's difficult for me to say if I liked it or not because there wasn't any sort of "artistic segment" apart from musical performances. I particularly enjoyed the Dream Team do Passinho as well as Ivete Sangalo's final song. I loved to see Tom the mascot on stage. I always like seeing the mascots appear during the ceremonies even if it's just for a second like Athena and Phevos in Athens 2004 OC, and I missed Vinicius in the Olympic ceremonies considering how successful these mascots seem to be in Brazil. It's a pity that it rained again, although fortunately not as much as during the OC. I agree that the extinguishing of the flame was a bit sudden, the idea of the windmills was fantastic though. The handover by Tokyo was impressive again. I liked the fact that they used the same anthem, the same thank you message, the same music and style for the introduction video, the same cubes and the same Tokyo 2020 flags from the Olympic handover to create a sense of unity between the Olympics and the Paralympics. The performance was dark, quite cold and impersonal, and I really liked that. It looked very Japanese indeed and it was the perfect way to differentiate themselves from Rio's party and carnival atmosphere. In both the Olympic and Paralympic handovers, they've managed to show Japan and Tokyo in a different and, in my opinion, very attractive way. And that's all from Rio de Janeiro. It's Tokyo's turn now!
