Sir Rols Posted December 7, 2016 Report Posted December 7, 2016 I'm sure this will provoke a few opinions... Quote Cheerleading put on the Olympic Games wait list Switch-kick double twists, basket tosses, double downs and double fulls could soon enter the sporting vernacular after cheerleading moved closer to being admitted to the Olympic Games. In a surprise move yesterday the International Olympic Committee announced that the International Cheer Union and the International Federation of Muaythai — Thai kickboxing — had beaten 14 others to be put on its Association of IOC Recognised International Sport Federations. They now have three years to prove themselves worthy of being part of the 2024 Olympic Games. And cheerleading competitors are tumbling with joy. For Alanna Marchant, 21, who trains with the Starlets in western Sydney — and has competed at two world championships — it’s a dream come true. “People just see us as a sideline sport, so for us to be able to go to the Olympics, to represent Australia and show what we are and what we’re all about is a really good,” she said. The same goes for Antony Wright, 27, who admits he wasn’t at first sure about what is largely considered a female sport. “When I first started I was a bit wary but my mate told me to check it out and now I would never look back,” he said. “It’s harder than any other sport I’ve ever done.” ... more The Australian

zekekelso Posted December 8, 2016 Report Posted December 8, 2016 Squash needs to be given the heave-ho.
