So sadly I am not heading to Rio as the winter Games are more my bag and there is only so much handball you can watch in person before people assume you are Norwegian or some sh*t.  Thus I am staying in depressingly non-wintery Brisbane (ha ha - prospective snort snort bidder for lol lol lol 2028) and will thrill you all with my tales of couch-ery and inflatable palm trees.

Today's mission - new TV!

I shall be heading down to the local retailer ((JB Hi Fi for those playing along at home) and am eyeing of an Olympic sponsor approved Samsung KU6000 60" 4K blah blah letters and numbers TV that should really make the next 2.5 weeks of sport/poverty porn pop!  Such vibrant street crime!  Such indepth enhanced boobage!  Favela! Fa-ve-la! Sadly it costs about the same as a flight to Rio and a water polo semi final ticket - but ya know - it'll make The Amazing Race Canada look even better as well. Win win.

I may also mid Games goes to a local Churrasco place and/or eat bananas/pineapples while thinking of South America.

So stay tuned fellow GBidders! it's a new world!

But my experience will probably be better than those on the ground - so ban me bitchez - I SHANT BE SILENCED AND THIS WILL BE FULL OF WITTICISMS!

BREAKING THE RULES!

Furthermore my blog will speak to the majority of GBidders - so I find it hard to believe this is a big deal.

I thought breaking the rules was what we paid the premium membership for. G-d knows everyone that has responded in this thread would have gotten banned at almost any other forum long before we made it to 2016.

look, i'm sorry you're from a country that struggles to win even a single gold medal but lashing out at me when i've done nothing but insult you for ten years is really misplacing your anger.

this thread is about a balding australian man with a comfortable job who is too cheap to fly to south america. please, let's not hijack it for your endless bitter banalities.

Oi! My hairline has stayed exactly where it stopped a good 8 years ago!  I still have 90% coverage and it's only slipped back a wee bit at the temples!  And seemingly migrated to my back.  Such is life.

i demand a dispatch.

what is the mood on the ground?

are people excited?

where's the best place to listen to bosa nova and get a caipirinha at 1 am?

witness any rousing games of street soccer in the shantytowns?

new TV work out ok?

60"?

That's a bit small for 2016. Where's your ambition?

There is a buzz of excitement doing the rounds - however the local media dispatches are keeping it at bay.

I have hung my Sydney 2000, Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 flags in the hall to alert any visitors that I am indeed well versed with host cities.

I do not care for bosa nova music unless it is used ironically in an earlier episode of 'Mad Men'.

No street soccer but lots of Asian students playing Pokemon Go due to being at an unfortunate meeting of pokestops and gyms.

TV is OK. 'Cutthroat Kitchen' was slightly more enjoyable in higher def.

In other news I have purchased new t-shirts and underwear that will make their debut at some point during the Games on one f those "can't be f*cked, staying in" days!

Today due to having an SDO I am off to see 'Suicide Squad'.

Limited wall space in the prime viewing area.

So with less than 26 hours to go until the Games start I've decided to check if the cafe strip near Chez Puppee had any Brazilian style breakfast offerings.  Here is how I went...

The Coffee Club - not really. The server is Chilean and just sighed at me. Hater.

Cafe 63 - they offered to put an egg on top of baked beans on sourdough. Not sure if this is at all Brazilian though.

Alcove Cafe - they claim to have a Brazilian coffee and the barista is from Portugal which means something apparently.

Brumbies Bakery - Peri Peri chicken pie. Sigh. No.

The General Cafe - the hipster just said he doesn't care where the Olympics are - it's an obscene waste of money. What is obscene is how sh*t his poached eggs are. Tool. (May be Argentinian/Darcy).

Cafe Conti - "We have pulled pork on rye with peri peri sauce"... NO!!

So in conclusion - a bit of a fail.  :)

i appreciate your willingness to go up to strangers in krowstralia and talk to them about the olympics.

i, too, tried three days and ago (although not in kroz) and was told by someone that they intended to go home and start watching that very evening. i said, "yeah, it's been really great so far."

PS i imagine brazilian coffee is just regular coffee with four sugars and a shot of cachaca.
