I think you hit the nail on the head Athensfan. Exactly what I was thinking. Raisman is the stronger All-Arounder at the moment and she looked amazing last night. If it weren't for the balance check on Beam, It would have been hard for Laurie to catch her down. Also, I just realised Kylie Dickson is second to last in the AA Standings. I wonder why Belarus chose her in the first place, If you want a Gymnast in the Olympics then at least pick someone who wouldn't fall on the most basic skills, that too on Floor Exercise. I did however like her Soviet-Esque Leotard. Poor Girl needs to eat something because she looked absolutely miserable yesterday. 2 minutes ago, LatinXTC said: What time does the team event start, in US Central time please? NBC site has it at 2pm, but not sure if that's the time they're gonna decide to air it or the actual start time. It'd be 8PM here which would be 3PM for you I believe. I'm not sure because I'm nowhere near good with times lol.

Faster
I thought that SI's 118 was a little to ambitious. With how the American ladies performed yesterday 10 medals in women's gymnastics is a possibility.

MissEurasia
SI's AA Podium Prediction seemed legit until Melnikova got 2-Per'd by Musty & Seda and Laurie didn't do AA. I think Biles & Raisman will go 1-2 and Bronze will be battled for between Andrade, Steingruber and the Russians. Melnikova was all over the place. I hope Seda doesn't get pulled out in favour for her, though it is likey (Roza Galiyeva, 1992) Even though Melnikova has a decent shot at making the Podium, I don't want Seda to get pulled out just for that, She's the top Russian Qualifier going into the All-Around and that's big in it's own right. No one expected her to hit everything and she was the most consistent out of all the Russians yesterday. Mustafina is definately going to the All-Around, her being pulled out is highly unlikely, I'm just worried about Seda's spot lol. ANYWAY. Now that we know who's going where, Other than the US dominating everything, Anyone have any other "Wishes" I'm here hoping JLo medals in the Bars Finals! (Maybe because I'm biased due to the fact that I have some Venezuelan in my blood lol).
LatinXTC
Men's team final!!! The US and the Brazilian team are easily the hottest teams in this competition! lol @ some of the boos in the audience when they announce the Russian gymnasts by name. BTW they need to seriously test the pizzafaced russian over and over again. I don't believe all that acne is completely natural, dear god! LatinXTC
Ugh I think the US already lost any chance of a gold medal, and we're probably at risk of losing the podium at this rate. If I heard correctly Alexander Nadoor got a 13.566 on the floor exercise, while Sam Mikulak just stepped out of bounds twice, once with both feet. LatinXTC
Jake Dalton ended the US's time on the floor exercise with a 15.325. A good score, but he got a 15.6 during qualifications. The US NEEDED this event as they ranked first on this apparatus. They need to be damn near perfect from here on out, and I can't see that happening because our next apparatus is the pommel horse. It's our weakest apparatus by far.
LatinXTC
No major mistakes made on the pommel horse thankfully. Sam Mikulak managed to stay on the pommel horse, and surprisingly he scored the highest in the event out of the 3. Danell Leyva fell short of equaling his qualification score, and bringing Nadour in mainly because of his score here has not paid off. He's made mistakes and has scored a 14.633, which is about 0.5 short of his qualification score. But all might not be lost. The Chinese have been making some mistakes on the floor and pommel horse so if they continue to be sloppy then other teams have a shot at gold. LatinXTC
Ok something weird that I just noticed and had to check out twitter to confirm. Looked at the standings and Ukraine was placed dead last, with almost 15 points behind the 2nd to last team, which was us lol. I thought perhaps someone landed on his back in vault like they did in London, but no someone from the parallel bars just did not perform, so they only had two scores there. And just now one of their athletes stepped up to the high bar, nodded to the judges, and then walked off. Looks like Ukraine forfeits the team event, but why who the hell knows. Perhaps this is in protest of Russia being in the event? Speaking of which, Russia is doing extremely well here, far better than in qualifying. With the doping scandal still around I'm sure i'm not the only one suspicious of how well they've been doing.
Athensfan
It seems clear to me that serious changes need to be made in USA men's gymnastics -- particularly with regard to coaching. This is a repeat of London, but worse. Can't call it a fluke anymore. This is a pattern now.

They made a big stink about having their Olympic trials too soon from the Olympics and there wasn't enough training and recovery time. Clearly that's not the problem and it is definitely an issue with whoever is in charge of coaching the gymnasts for the team events. How is it they can place 2nd, even with their pommel horse mistakes, in qualifications yet can't manage to replicate their exact performance, if not even improve on it, in the finals? LatinXTC
And that is it. We're done. Danell Leyva falls on possibly the easiest release skill in his routine. A damn shame.
LatinXTC
And so far it looks like Japan will get the gold for team. Russia and China cannot average higher than the score that Japan has put up for the floor exercise. Team GB could definitely medal, they're ending on their strongest event, the pommel horse. LatinXTC
And Louis Smith just fell off the pommel horse! So they might be out of medal contention as of right now as well.
MissEurasia
Holy Yikes. Japan currently leading w/China in 2nd, Russia are waiting for a Floor Score. Whitlock scores 15.911 on PH.

LatinXTC
So stupid that we lost over 3 points because of mistakes that shouldn't have happened. We lost over 2 points on the floor exercise, and that's where we qualified 1st! We lost over a point in high bars because of Leyva's fall on the easiest of releases he had. Nadour did not deliver for us on the pommel horse, but thankfully Mikulak improved to give us a decent score there. But still this inconsistency on the day where it counts needs to stop with our US team.
MissEurasia
^^ I really hope the US take something from this and improve their Program for the Men. Chinese looked really pissed after they realised Russia knocked them down lol.

They'll have to rely on building a couple of individual athletes to carry the entire team just like the Hamm brothers did in 2004. And EVERYONE should be pissed that Russia makes the podium at all competitions they manage to do so. They shouldn't be there.
Athensfan
The way the gymnasts were talking it sounded like they were in denial about what happened in London. I don't think they really faced up to the fact that they had a total meltdown. I think they did everything the exact same way in Rio and got an identical result. Obviously poor preparation. The definition of insanity is doing everything the same way, but expecting a different outcome. There MUST be a leadership change in the men's program.
