Scotguy Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 We should all urge calm and respect for laws, institutions, and basic human rights and freedoms and support for the democratically elected civilian government.
Ikarus360 Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 The sad truth is that the new age dictatorships tend come to power peacefuly via populism, then start amassing power, monopolizing everything and intimidating anyone or anything which doesn't kneels to them progrssively to the point they became a tyrany and you didn't even noticed when did it happened, laws/institutions completly biased in favor of them to the point they pretty much become useless. While in normal situations one should respect laws and institutions, it is also the right of the people to make a stand when their rulers have failed and are attempting to violate the foundations on which their country lies. Giving enough pressure so the world realizes said "democracy" is nothing but an illusion.
StefanMUC Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 It's not just "new age" - Adolf H was also democratically elected first. I think media play a huge role in the rise of populists nowadays, e.g. with Brexit, the serious media just didn't do enough to expose the Leave lies. And if you give room to propaganda statements all the time... But I digress. If the coup fails, it's a disaster because Erdogan will be worse than ever. And if it still succeeds, it'll be terrible to see that Turkish democracy has failed once more.
Rob2012 Posted July 16, 2016 Author Report Posted July 16, 2016 Erghhhh, just woken up....so the old goat shagger is still in charge.
Ikarus360 Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 More than 180 people dead left by the Coup. Now that I think about it, a military government in Turkey would also had been a bad idea, considering how they repressed and murdered civilians like this in just one day. The bad news is that Erdogan has now what he needed to truly become the Sultan of Turkey. This is why coups are a double edged sword. If you fail you screw up things much more for yourself than they already wwere. I mean, look at the poor people of Panem. Damage done against the Parliament building Turkish Airlines is also another big loser of this incident, having proven to be incompetent when events of this magnitude happen, hundreds of people stuck at lounges without a single idea of what was going on. Can someone remind me why they made them sponsors of Euro 2016? The bad news is that Erdogan has now what he needed to truly become the Sultan of Turkey. From what I read, those deaths were not only caused by those responsible for the coup, to the contrary I saw also reports that pro-Erdogan people killed soldiers involved in the coup. So both sides are just as bad as each other, and it's a pity that Erdogan will really come out of this with even more strength.
Ikarus360 Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 The toll has raised to 265 people. As expected, massive purges are underway as 3000 soldiers were arrested and 2700 judges have been fired. I think Erdogan got just what he needed to become the Sultan. Given how badly the coup was planned i'm starting to believe as well on the False Flag theories. Erdogan knew for a very long time there was a lot of contempt from the Army, specially the Kemalists, who sadly are going to get squashed after this and lose relevance to the islamists.
