Roger87
If they don't want Yimou, what about Feng Xiaogang?
olympiaki-agones
Well, Beijing is a horrible, overcrowded and extremly polluted city with traffic like hell. Too shocking when arriving by train and look around with all those depressing and garlic stinky hutongs (slums) everywhere which are kept very well-hidden from the media and massive foreing tourists. I bet they might innovate to make the city more pleasant during the harsh Nothern Chinese winters which are bitterly cold. Unfortunately, China has been overexposed with so many multi-sports event, plus other international events. I guess the Chinese have not got so many choices, above all when Japan and Korea (including the North Korean starring appearance) are basically in a contest. For being the first summer and winter Olympic city, they should focus on past editions and make up the ceremony with unforgettable classical Olympic sequences, at least to entertain viewers from all over the world for a while. I wouldn't mind a traditional stair ramp going up all the way to the original cauldron that may be re-intalled on its original place facing the northwest part of the stadium. BigVic
Like Sydney, the Beijing Cauldron was removed from the stadium and is now just outside the Bird's Nest.

Way better putting Cauldron outside the stadium.

Olympianfan
I wonder if they will do a Sochi and do an outside cauldron and light it outside the stadium since there are no events being held in the Birds Nest or have an inside and a outside cauldron. Xu Wen-Ting
Two cauldrons would be expected..one in Beijing for ice events and another one in Zhangjiakou for snow events.
WD96
Can we move the thread to the main Beijing 2022 category?
