JMarkSnow2012
Happily, the holy month of Ramadan has now moved out of synchronisation with the Olympics, but it turns out that in 2012, the British government secretly went to considerable lengths to persuade Muslim nations not to boycott the London Games: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/may/03/government-hid-fact-it-paid-for-2012-olympics-film-aimed-at-muslims
baron-pierreIV
Wow. Who are those self-righteous filmmakers who think they are God's gift to filmmaking? What presumption and bloated self-worth!!
Rob2012
No problem with this kind of thing in principle if it works. A bit odd the lines of communication were blurred whether deliberately or not.
Faiyez
Why the need to be so accommodating? Some of these are countries are known to officially discriminate against female athletes, due to which the IOC now feels the need to beg them to send a few. It's pathetic and sickening. They could boycott the Olympics, for all I care. I would see them banned on the women issue, anyway.

A long walk begins with a short step.
Nacre
Why the need to be so accommodating? In practice this is simply used to defend the dictators who fund their events. But that neutrality exists for good reasons. For example many of the Muslim confederations want a blasphemy rule for the Olympics. If the IOC agrees to force Muslim countries to end gender segregation among athletes, why won't they agree to repress free speech among Western athletes? Ikarus360
The problem with some muslim countries is that they want to force the rest to adapt to their whims, when it should be the other way around: If they want to keep their discriminating views, don't they have two sport events already to do that? (Pan Arab Games and Islamic Games). The more the IOC give in to their demands, the more they want to force their islam bullcrap on us.
