Former Minister Paulo Bernardo was arrested in Brasilia by Lava Jato

Former government Minister of Planning and Communications of Lula's government and in the first government Dilma, Paulo Bernardo, was arrested on Thursday (23) in an offshoot of the 18th stage of Operation Lava Jato in Brasilia. He is the husband of Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR), who was with Bernardo in the functional apartment in Brasilia, when the police arrived.

Former minister of Lula and Dilma received up to 10% in overpriced contracts

The computing company Consist, contracted to provide service to the Ministry of Planning, was giving over 70% of the revenue for the payment of bribes to the former Minister of Planning and Communications, Paulo Bernardo. The former minister came to receive up to 10% of the revenues of Consist with an overpriced contract signed with the Ministry of Planning for control and management of payroll loans, which would approximately R$ 7 million. Bernardo was arrested early on Thursday in Operation Cost Brazil, in a operation of Lava Jato investigations.

According to the investigations by the Federal Police, between 2010 and 2015, this payment of Consist to the minister and the National Directory of PT through strawperson companies, reached something around R$ 100 million. According to the investigations, this sum served to supply not only the campaign in 2010 of Senator Gleisi Hoffman (PT / PR), married to Paul Bernardo, but also for the acquisition of personal property and payment of employees of the former Minister.

ALL treasurers of the PT since 2002 are currently in JAIL.

I'm from parana.

This Gleisi Hoffmann is the Workers Party, the same as Lula and Dilma and was elected senator in my state in 2010.

It is recognized as one of the greatest defenders of Dilma. Well, besides all that the media has been reporting, I do not know how she does it in Paraná, one of the most contrary to the Workers' Party states, he tried to be governor of the state, but was in 3rd place in 2014, through the liberal candidate, Beto Richa and former governor Requiao, who finished 2nd.

The Workers' Party, without Lula does not have a strong name to run for president. Lula himself has 57% rejection among Brazilians, according to a survey by Datafolha in March.

The Workers' Party has a big challenge ahead.

Brazilian economists and already indicate an improvement.

The economy is expected to shrink -3.2 % this year and grow 1 % next year.

When Dilma had left forecasts indicating -4 % .

Michel Temer has a solid base in Congress , has support of 320-350 members . Rousseff's supporters are 100 or 120 on average.

He gets enough to change the constitution .

In the Senate he also has support of most senators, while Dilma group has around 20 of the 81 senators.

Eduardo Cunha , former president of the Chamber resigned last week amid corruption. His replacement Temer managed to elect an ally Rodrigo Maia ( Democratic Party ) , the Mayan party has the most liberal position among the great Parliament .

Dilma’s impeachment was a Farce

It’s a bit difficult to justify the removal of democratically elected President by citing corruption, when far more serious corruption scandals are engulfing the person eager to replace her along with his closest associates. But that has been the sham at the heart of this anti-democratic process from the start. As Slate‘s Franklin Foer put it in a long article on Brazil yesterday: “Dilma’s impeachment was a farce, if only for the fact that her accusers have benefited from graft on a mind-bending scale and ginned up the spectacle to distract from their own misdeeds.”

Brazil's Senate indicts Rousseff, opens impeachment trial

Brazil's Senate voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to indict President Dilma Rousseff on charges of breaking budget laws and to begin an impeachment trial that is expected to oust her from office and end 13 years of rule by the Workers Party.

With the eyes of the world on the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, senators in the capital Brasilia voted 59-21 against the suspended leftist leader in a raucous, 16-hour session that began on Tuesday.

Her opponents mustered five votes more than they will need to convict Rousseff at the end of the month, allowing interim President Michel Temer to serve the rest of her term through 2018.

The result showed Rousseff had even less support in the Senate since the 55-22 vote to suspend her on May 12. She is charged with manipulating government accounts and spending without congressional approval, which her opponents say helped her win re-election in 2014.

Wednesday's vote will strengthen Temer's hand as he tries to plug Brazil's fiscal crisis. Critics have blamed Rousseff for an economic recession that could be the country's worst since the 1930s.
