2016 Political Crisis in Brazil

Recommended Posts

This new government is being called an "interim" government. I assumed that must mean elections are coming. Or is it only interim in the sense that it'll be decided once the impeachment process is over?

The government is acting in Brazil, because it works enqunato the president is being judged. The end result should come out in August .
Brazil is not so parliamentary elections are not made when a president leaves the government for overthrow by parliament.
I do not know where is Brazil where people are mostly favorable to Dilma .
I am looking for the address.
The pro- Dilma protests are organized by the party of Dilma and unions.
The contrary Dilma arise through social networks and drag 3.6 million in March according to data released by the police .
The last pro- Dilma protests this month, they took 37,000 seconds the police and organizers said 326,000 people. The source is the G1 ( largest news portal in Brazil ) .
The Dilma government retains low popularity since the beginning of the second term , with always close rejection of 2 out of 3 Brazilians. Temer The government has approved equal to Dilma , but their rejection is half of Dilma index.
If anyone has an address in Brazil where most supports Dilma me pass .

I will not speak; Curious to know which side is larger protests access the link: http://especiais.g1.globo.com/politica/mapa-manifestacoes-no-brasil/10-06-2016/contra/ It is produced by the Brazilian portal G1 news ( the largest in the country ) , choose the date and will see the size of the protests. Purple, police numbers in orange numbers of the organizers. ' Against Fear ' are the protests against the interim government . ' Against Dilma ' are the protests against Rousseff and the Workers' Party.

Can't you guys have an election of something. Be a lot easier than trying to count how many people are in red vs green shirts.

Or have elections been outlawed by the "coup"?

No. Brazilian Constitution doesn't allow immediate elections after a impeachment trial. After a president is impeached, the presidency becomes constitutional right of the VP, since, he was also elected by the popular vote. A coup would be trying to overthrow/change the constitution to convoke elections before the right time just because some people don't like the president (interim, so far).
Though, new elections are constitutional if the new president also is subjected to an impeachment trial. In any other case, convoking presidential elections before 2018 would be unconstitutional.
By the way, this is not just about 'counting how any people are in red vs green shirts', the fact is that the vast majority of the population supports the impeachment (assured by the Constitution and following each of the legal procedures) and totally rejects Rousseff's government and all the last survey prove that. BothRousseff's rejection is way higher than Temer's.
Last survey (CNT-MDA)
JUNE
Negative Rating
Rousseff: 62.4%
Temer: 28.0%
Impeachment Support
In favor: 62.4%
Against: 33.0%
Reasonably, new protests against Rousseff haven't been observed since at least for now she's been removed. Still, new protests are already scheduled to July 31st, to defend the definitive removal of Dilma Rousseff.

This new government is being called an "interim" government. I assumed that must mean elections are coming. Or is it only interim in the sense that it'll be decided once the impeachment process is over?

Michel Temer is called 'interim president' because his current political situation is still considered provisory since the impeachment process is not over.
Dilma's final judgement will be in August (at least, according to the current schedule approved by the Impeachment Comission), until there she will have the right to defend herself and the accusation will be once again presented to the Senate and to the Supreme Court.
After that, if Rousseff loses her term, Temer becomes the president until 2018 when new presidential elections are set to happen.

Wagner Moura is known for its leftmost position. I'd be surprised if he was in favor of the center-right government made by Temer.

Well, about the protests, the streets are relatively peaceful. There are manifestations of the left, which is natural in a democracy. People are encouraging, the economic numbers are improving.

Look at that amazing!

The trust of the people and industry in Brazil went up in the last month. The forecasts of the economy with Dilma week were worse already give good signs of improvement:

The GDP this year would shrink -3.90% in the worst forecast some time ago, now Temer is expected to shrink -3.6%. For next year the economy will grow 1% against the forecast of 0.5% made before.

The Brazil without Dilma is better than Brazil with Dilma.

Yes. And Elvis Presley did not die, too.

The acting president is accused of corruption. Three New Ministers are involved in corruption scandals. And the interim government is more unpopular than the government of Dilma Rousseff. But the interim government is better... Yes, I believe.

Some news about the new interim government and scandals just one month after the impeachment vote:

Search the Paraná Research Institute, came out yesterday in the media.

Temer has 36% approval in its first month.

When was the last time Dilma TV approval of this size?

-

Now let's talk about the 'coup'

66% of Brazilian impeachment was not a coup against democracy.

To 53% Temer end the mandate in 2018.

Only 17% believe that Temer being worse than Dilma.

And from 'The Brazil without Dilma is better than Brazil with Dilma' series:

2 days ago - By Glenn Greenwald

As Corruption Engulfs Brazil’s “Interim” President, Mask Has Fallen Off Protest Movement

MOMENTUM FOR THE impeachment of Brazil’s democratically elected president, Dilma Rousseff, was initially driven by large, flamboyant street protests of citizens demanding her removal. Although Brazil’s dominant media endlessly glorified (and incited) these green-and-yellow-clad protests as an organic citizen movement, evidence recently emerged that protests groups were covertly funded by opposition parties. Still, there is no doubt that millions of Brazilians participated in marches demanding Rousseff’s ouster, claiming they were motivated by anger over her and her party’s corruption.
But from the start, there were all sorts of reasons to doubt this storyline and to see that these protesters were (for the most part) not opposed to corruption, but simply devoted to removing from power the center-left party that won four straight national elections. As international media outlets reported, data showed that the protesters were not representative of Brazilian society but rather were disproportionately white and rich: In other words, the same people who have long hated and voted against PT. As The Guardian put it in its description of the largest Rio protest: “The crowd was predominantly white, middle class and predisposed to supporting the opposition.” To be sure, many former PT supporters turned against Dilma — with good reason — and PT itself has indeed been rife with corruption. But the protests were largely composed of the same factions who have long opposed PT.
After yesterday’s huge news from Brazil, the evidence that these protests were a sham is now overwhelming. An oil executive and ex-senator from the conservative opposition party PSDB, Sérgio Machado, testified as part of his plea bargain that Michel Temer — Brazil’s “interim” president who conspired to get rid of Dilma — demanded 1.5 million reals in illegal kickbacks for the São Paulo mayoral campaign of his party’s candidate (Temer denies this). This comes on top of multiple other corruption scandals in which Temer is implicated, as well as a court-imposed eight-year ban on his running for any office (including the one he now occupies) due to violations of campaign spending laws.

The Institute of International Finance (IIF), formed by more than 500 financial institutions and based in Washington, improved projections for the Brazilian economy. Before, they were forecasting that the GDP would fall 4.5% this year, the institution now projected a fall of 3.3%. Three are contrary to Dilma.

-

The Brazil is improving the economy.

Last week the Dilma government the economic indicators followed by falls, the economy should shrink -3.9%, now the forecast is 3.4% for this year and next year already with growth of 1% ..

Moreover, the expectation is that this year the economy will return to high.

In 40 days, Temer did more for our economy than Dilma in four years.
