It seems, and because they are not gathering athletes in the center of the stadium, the sequence will be Winter Olympics like: the parade first and then the show…. Despite we claim the lowest excitement ever for an Olympic edition; we are facing a historical Opening Ceremony Unlike previous Games, the cauldron will in fact be located away from the stadium and situated in Tokyo's waterfront city. It seems we are not going to see the cauldron inside the stadium and finally we will watch the lighting of the external cauldron: In Vancouver and Rio – and Lima for the Pan Am Games - we only witnessed the lighting of the internal cauldron, but the external lighting was not part of the show (and that was unfair taking in consideration the permanent cauldron were the external ones in those three cases) Part of me is still very depressed that this ceremony and the games are being held without spectators due to the pandemic, so it feels extremely soulless. On a positive side, I am aware not having much people would also allow them to do stuff which are normally restricted to Winter ceremonies. By the way, doing a artistic display as the torch enters is something which has been going on for a while now (Jakarta Palembang 2018, Philippines 2019 SEA Games and also Lima 2019 Pan Am Games did a cultural display as the torch enters...seems like its the norm to do this thing now). Agreed! I wonder if drones can enter the stadium, because that would be a cool visual. Although I wonder about how much noise they make, especially collectively.

I know, and while it was nice and everything, the closing ceremony is not always as remembered as the opening. Also, this drone show seem to be an improvement over what we saw last time. Ikarus360
Better quality pic of the drones rehearsal They are also forming the words "Imagine". Oh god....not John Lenon, please. https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1416418962401730561/pu/vid/720x1280/yj5ZeDPu32cfq4Sl.mp4 https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1416422408991371266/pu/vid/720x1280/fzWIIGsYQ7cJaFo7.mp4 And yup....they formed "And the World will live as one". Really. I am bored to the bones of Imagine in olympic ceremonies. It's the new Ode to Joy. Hopefully like Ode to Joy they also get bored and abandon it.

Cat
I was actually trying to imagine (no pun intended) how they'll pay tribute to the pandemic at the opening ceremony, and I thought they might play this song. Guess it's now been confirmed.
BigVic
"Ode to Joy" was played post-Cold War in 90s Olympics Ceremony ending with that live choral performance at Nagano in 1998 and again at Salt Lake City in 2002 after the September 11 attacks. Funny enough, her family are one of the richest in Japan, being owners of the Bank of Japan and everything. But to be honest, I always thought her relative, Yuji Ohno, had much more talent.
Nacholympic
That globe shape seems perfect!!! Wow and it is on 3D form… Are they really singing “Imagine”? Were those the lyrics? Is it a sort of “drone karaoke”? Imagine has been previously played in: Torino 2006 OC (Yoko Ono and Peter Gabriel), London 2012 CC (children’s choir) , Baku 2015 OC (Lady Gaga) , PyeongChang 2018 OC (Ha Hyun-woo of the indie rock band Guckkasten, Ahn Ji-young of K-pop duo Bolbbalgan4, Deulgukhwa singer Jeon In-Kwon and solo artist Lee Eun-mi)… Who is going to sing it this time?
WD96
I do hope the Beijing 2022 organizers will pick a different song for their ceremonies.
DesmondChan
Tokyo 2020 organised 2 cultural events online during past weekend, and the Sunday show "Nippon Wasai" has a great AR showcase. Here is the link: If feel too long, fast forward to 41:30, which the new National Stadium is featured.

Noise? #1 - Turn up the music speakers. #2 - Only the athletes and maybe 500 guests will be there. So, drone noise doesn't matter.
Popular Post PikyoK
SPOILER ALERT A rehearsal of the Opening Ceremony was held last night in Tokyo and I managed to find some footage from Channel 7 News Australia (the Australian broadcaster for the Olympics). You can expect a lot of fireworks, projections and some Japanese elements blended with contemporary art. Looks very promising. 4
