phandrosis Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 Out of nowhere Nagoya announces they are exploring a bid for these games... Japan's third-largest city Nagoya is set to be put forward to lead a bid from Aichi Prefecture for the 2026 Asian Games. Hideaki Omura, the Governor of the Prefecture, made the announcement today. Japan has previously hosted the Asian Games twice before, at Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. “As it is a big event, we should first clarify the situation,” Omura told news conference in Nagoya. The Prefecture plans to publish a financial study later this year into the economic benefits of hosting the event and how much it costs. It will then send its proposal to the Japanese Olympic Committee, who will make the final decision on whether they will bid or not. The Olympic Council of Asia are expected to choose a host city in 2018 or 2019. Omura revealed that he believes Asian Games is an opportunity to show the world Japan’s state-of-the-art magnetically levitated train technology - popularly known as maglev. Central Japan Railway Co. plans to start Japan’s first maglev - a transport method that uses magnetic levitation to move vehicles without touching the ground.- service between Tokyo and Nagoya in 2027. In tests conducted last year, a Japanese train using maglev technology setting a world record of more than 600 kilometres per hour, covering 1.8km in under 11 seconds. Omura claimed he may request that the Games be delayed by one year to take advantage of the planned maglev service launch. Nagoya is located 350 kilometres from Tokyo. The city bid for the 1988 Olympics but were eliminated in the first round as the Games were awarded to South Korea's capital Seoul. The 2018 Asian Games is due to be held jointly in Jakarta and Palembang. They were awarded the event after the original host, Hanoi in Vietnam, withdrew because of financial problems. The 2022 Asian Games were awarded last year to Hangzhou, China's fourth-largest city. http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1032966/nagoya-proposed-as-potential-bid-for-2026-asian-games-to-showcase-japans-new-state-of-the-art-train-system Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 Given China is already hosting 2022 and pretty much no other place seems to be interested in the Asiad at this moment (China was the sole bidder last time) i think Nagoya would win this easily if no other city tries to bid (I doubt S.Korea would want the games since Incheon hosted them recently). It would be interesting to see the Asiad happening once again in Japan. Also, the Aichi prefecture already has experience organizing events since they held the Expo 2005. Quote
thatsnotmypuppy Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 Interesting move since Sapporo is hosting the 2017 winter edition. Having recently been to Nagoya there is a lot of empty space on the outskirts - I wonder if the Expo 2005 park will be utilised? Quote
budse Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 and Asian Games will rotate between China, Japan and S. Korea. Hope we can see more other countries take up this opportunity. I think India, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Middle East countries have big chance if they try to bid this time. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 Looks like OCA's given up on resetting the AG calendar and make a major Olympic qualifier event. That's eventually detrimental to Asian athletes and teams. Quote
yoshi Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 Why won't Singapore go for it? I would've thought they'd have been the obvious choice for 2018 Quote
gotosy Posted March 30, 2016 Report Posted March 30, 2016 Fukuoka planning to bid for 2026 Asian GamesFukuoka is the latest city in Japan to declare an interest in hosting the 2026 Asian Games, it has been reported. In January Aichi Prefecture, led by Japan's third largest city Nagoya, announced they hoped to bid. Japan has previously hosted the Asian Games twice before, at Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. The country's news agency Kyodo News reported that Fukuoka Prefecture were currently working on pulling together a proposal to present to the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC). The JOC plan to hold meetings with both potential candidates before choosing a city. The host will be decided at the general meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in 2018, according to the JOC. ... http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1035913/fukuoka-planning-to-bid-for-2026-asian-games Quote
gotosy Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Asian Games: Nagoya reconsidering bid to co-host 2026 with Aichi Pref. Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura said Monday the central Japanese city is reconsidering its plan to join the Aichi prefectural government in a bid to host the 2026 Asian Games. "The prefecture has not shown us what the necessary expenses are so we cannot give an explanation to our residents and the city assembly," Kawamura told a press conference. "We want to go back to the drawing board in terms of the co-hosting plan. Nagoya, the capital of Aichi, had earlier announced it will seek to host Asia's largest multisport event. Kawamura said the city government has informed the Japanese Olympic Committee that it intends to withdraw its candidacy, but noted that he would "respond sincerely" if the prefectural government approaches it again. According to Kawamura, the city had estimated the total costs of hosting the Asian Summer Games, including preparing the venues and the athletes' village, to come to 85 billion yen (about $820 million) and asked Aichi Prefecture to indicate the burden ratio. But the prefecture responded in late August that it cannot do so because it has not been able to come up with detailed estimates. Aichi Gov. Hideaki Omura told a separate news conference Monday that he is "puzzled" by the development and said the prefectural government will continue its bidding activities under the premise of joint hosting. "We are following the procedures so the framework of co-hosting by the prefecture and the city cannot be changed," Omura said. The governor added that it would be difficult to include the financial plan and burden ratio in a document which the prefecture is planning to present shortly to the Olympic Council of Asia. The OCA is expected to choose the host of the 2026 Asian Games on Sept. 25 when its General Assembly meets in Danang, Vietnam. An evaluation committee of the OCA and JOC inspected the planned competition venues and other facilities in Nagoya and other parts of Aichi Prefecture in July and gave a high assessment. If Aichi wins the bid to host the 20th summer games, it will be the third time for the event to be held in Japan following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. ==Kyodo http://kyodonews.net/news/2016/09/05/78297 Quote

gotosy Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 ^^ some additional info Quote The event could be awarded to Japan at the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) General Assembly on September 25 in Danang, Vietnam. It had been expected that the decision would be taken in 2018, but the Games could potentially be awarded earlier. Last year, OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah told insidethegames that "many cities were interested in bidding" for the Asian Games in 2026, but the "Asian tradition" is to favour one pre-meditated choice over an election-process. http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1041333/nagoya-mayor-claims-city-is-considering-withdrawing-as-potential-co-host-of-2026-asian-games Quote

eVANDOpriyanto Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 Asian Games: JOC approves Aichi, Nagoya as candidate hosts for 2026 Games http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2016/09/433719.html?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed TOKYO, Sept. 13, Kyodo The Japanese Olympic Committee on Tuesday approved Aichi Prefecture and its capital Nagoya as joint candidate hosts for the 2026 Asian Games. The JOC Executive Board met in Tokyo and decided the two local governments will have to submit an official document attesting that they agree on the co-hosting before the Olympic Council of Asia meets later this month to select the host. "It's regrettable things got confusing toward the end," JOC Secretary General Eisuke Hiraoka said, referring to Nagoya's recent announcement that it was reconsidering its plans for the Games. "It could become a matter of international trust. We hope they will positively proceed with the matter." Aichi and Nagoya said in May that they will seek to jointly organize the Asian version of the Summer Olympics. Japan has held the Asian Games twice previously, in Tokyo in 1958 and in Hiroshima in 1994. But Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura said last week that he was taking the scheme back to the drawing board after the central Japanese prefecture had not come forward with specific cost estimates. The prefectural government then indicated to Nagoya the total costs will come to roughly 85 billion yen (about $820 million), and after subtracting 25 billion yen to be covered by sponsorships and other revenues, Aichi would pay two-thirds and the city one-third of the remaining amount. On Monday, Nagoya Deputy Mayor Teruo Shinkai and Aichi Deputy Gov. Hajime Nakanishi paid a call on JOC President Tsunekazu Takeda to inform him of their intentions to resume discussions toward a joint bid to host the Games. According to JOC officials, the OCA highly assesses the plan for Aichi and Nagoya to host the event together, and they are expected to be the only ones bidding when the council's General Assembly meets Sept. 25 in Danang, Vietnam. "There are expectations that we would be able to lead the event to success if we jointly host it," Aichi Gov. Hideaki Omura said in a statement. Kawamura, meanwhile, made it clear that he wants to tackle the matter from the standpoint of local taxpayers and make sure the costs do not balloon as they have for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Quote

Ikarus360 Posted September 27, 2016 Report Posted September 27, 2016 Nice to see Japan will host the Asiad again after a long time. I know many are dissapointed East Asia is hosting the games yet again, but when you didn't had other options I think they really didn't had other choice. Nagoya can finally have their chance to shine (somewhat) after losing the Olympics race to Seoul back in 1981. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Felt under the radar because of all the mess going on in the world right now, but the logo for the Nagoya-Aichi 2026 Asian Games has been selected some months ago. Typical japanese minimalist yet effective design. https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1092675/asian-games-2026-logo-revealed Quote The official logo for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya has been unveiled by organisers in Japan. It follows a public call for potential designs which resulted in 884 different entries from across the country. A design by Hiroshi Miyashita, an associate professor in design at Aichi Sangyo University, was chosen as the winner. His emblem contains the initial letters of "Asian", "Aichi" and "Nagoya" with the A represented by the purple curve and the centre line, and the N featuring through the purple and gold curves. Each colour has its own meaning with purple representing the iris, the flower of Aichi prefecture. Gold is for kinshachi, the golden tiger-fish roof ornaments which are the symbol of Nagoya Castle, while the green represents the environmental consciousness of the local people. "The smooth curves describe the liveliness of sports," the Aichi-Nagoya Organising Committee said. Quote
