Well actually, the bowl season has an additional one with the debut of the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl that will take place in Atlanta's Georgia Dome on Saturday that will be live on ABC. This Celebration Bowl marks a much-needed revival of a championship game for the HBCUs for the MEAC and SWAC champions since the McDonald's Heritage Bowl from 1991-1999 also held in Atlanta's Georgia Dome (miss it) and the Pelican Bowl in 1972, 1974-75. It's a welcome change and needed national spotlight for the historically black colleges and universities and their football programs as well as the not-to-be-missed marching bands at halftime as the attraction. The SWAC schools have been playing football with 50-year head start on the MEAC since 1921. Since the Heritage Bowl's demise following 1999, there has been the MEAC/SWAC challenge that existed since 2005. But this obviously is far more important with neither conference having automatic bids into the FCS with the MEAC relinquished its automatic bid to participate in the FCS playoffs and the SWAC no longer participating in it.

This year's inaugural Celebration Bowl features the SWAC's Alcorn St. Braves and the MEAC's North Carolina A&T Aggies:

Just when many thought there are too many of these college football bowl games out there right now, including here, proposals for new ones STILL keep coming. There's the Austin Bowl in Austin, Texas, a Medal of Honor Bowl in Charleston, South Carolina (an attempt for the proposed Legends and Palmetto Bowls), the Christmas Los Angeles Bowl that's partial throwback to the one-time 1924 Los Angeles Christmas Festival Bowl Game, and proposed ones for the Melbourne Bowl at Ettihad Stadium, Toronto (resurrect the International Bowl!) at the SkyDome (still call it that), Dubai, Little Rock, and Dublin. Should any of the lower-tiered bowls either get cancelled or lose certification, any of these proposed bowls could step in as replacements. Actually the Medal of Honor plans to come in December 18, 2016 initially as a traditional bowl game rather than an all-star one now that the Confederate flag is now removed from the SC state Congress, pending NCAA approval.

Now back to the regularly scheduled bowl games that took place...

Starting with the New Year's Eve bowl games, the results in many got more lopsided but there were a few that were captivating and competitive. Best bowl game undoubtably was the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio going into 3 overtimes, sparked by a TCU second half comeback (and an Oregon missed field goal at the end of regulation). Cactus Bowl looked very good at Phoenix's Chase Field--game is played there from 2015-2017 with Sun Devil Stadium undergoing renovations. Found it a little unusual the Orange Bowl kickoff was set in the afternoon rather than well into the evening as it has been. Ditto for the Fiesta Bowl. This has more to do with ESPN holding the rights and scheduling and of the year of being the national semifinal. LatinXTC, hope you are happy with "Chokelahoma" losing. Being 2-1 out of this isn't bad. Sparty got smoked bad! So it's now come to this in Glendale, Arizona for the 2016 Dr. Pepper College Football Playoff National Championship between Alabama and Clemson. Nick Saban, with a win comes closer to great Paul "Bear" Bryant, and Dabo Sweeney. Should be a great one Monday night. Will take a neutral stance here but expect Big Al to win again but will welcome a more fresh face in Clemson to get it. Hopefully an instant classic like the Alamo Bowl game is, if the last few bowl games played are an indicator. SEC has been great this bowl season. Was a little disappointed in Oklahoma St. and Arizona St.

The (very belated) Canadian college football bowl game schedule on Canadian TV. Many of them are on, including tonight's College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Glendale, the TSN channels with many on TSN2 and TSN3 with a few simulcastings on TSN1/4/5 with several others on NCAA speciality channels. On the French side with RDS, don't expect many there: RDS2 possibly showed a couple of New Year's Day games but not even the national championship game. RDS didn't do any, as far as I'm aware:

https://canadiansportsfan.wordpress.com/2015/12/19/ncaa-bowl-game-tv-schedule/

14 ways to watch tonight's big game between Alabama and Clemson in this megacast. Wonder if NBC will take some cues for its upcoming Rio 2016 coverage. Wish I could do that. Just have to settle for ESPN Radio's coverage in a matter of hours:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14522683/14-ways-watch-cfp-national-championship-megacast

All coming down to this. Hope for an exciting game to counter all those lopsided matches so far.
