Seriously, those medals were a bit overkill size wise when you look back That was the trick of it. They were the biggest- but those holes in the middle made them lighter than Vancouver's or SLC's (or, apparently, Rio's, which were smaller, but over a centimetre thick in the middle). Quote
Tatsh Posted September 24, 2017 Report Posted September 24, 2017 Really nice and simple the medals. But maybe they could put a dove under the rings. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted October 14, 2017 Report Posted October 14, 2017 Well, we're in October now and there was not an announcement so far of a Mario & Sonic at the Olympics game this time, so I assume this series was seemingly canceled. However there is another olympics related videogame on the way which still gives us hints about the Look. Steep is launching an expansion related to the Olympics for December. This also seems to be an officially licensed product. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 1, 2017 Report Posted November 1, 2017 The official Posters for Pyeongchang 2018 have been unveiled yesterday http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/culturesports/2017/11/01/0707000000AEN20171101011100315.html Quote SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Yonhap) -- Forget uninspiring, boring promo posters. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism unveiled Wednesday a series of posters that beautifully combine the images of winter sports and Korean traditional art for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The eight posters have been selected from 205 entries from 136 artist teams in a contest from May 2 to July 31 to celebrate the opening of the Olympics next February. In a statement, Jeong Byung-kyu, chairman of the selection committee, highlighted the winners' artistic originality and experimental spirits as well as expression of Korean beauty and sensitivity. Indeed, all the posters are subtle and artistic in expression of their messages and can't be immediately associated with the Olympics. Artist Jeon Chang-hyun depicts two bobsledders about to slide down the surface of a Korean traditional pot. A closer look reveals small footprints on the surface -- inspired by the moon -- adding wit and humor. Kim Ju-sung, a design professor at Myongji College in Seoul, used Korean characters in creating a Korean landscape and visualizing the names of the three cities that will host the games -- PyeongChang, Gangneung and Jeongsun. "An Olympic Games is a rare opportunity that combines sports and culture," said Roh Tae-kang, the ministry's vice minister, during a press briefing on Wednesday. "We are having the first global event in 30 years so we hope to get support (from the media and the public) for a successful hosting of the event." The posters will be on display on Nov. 2 to Dec. 3 at the Seoul branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA). Quote
Nacholympic Posted November 2, 2017 Report Posted November 2, 2017 The colors of the fits remind me a bit of Salt Lake and Torino... I loved the posters... Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 2, 2017 Report Posted November 2, 2017 Tickets are (finally) being handed over on physical format. Here's a closeup of them with the official look 1 Quote

Ikarus360 Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 Seems like we got a Medal Podium design, as well for the outfits of the hostesses . Also everyone will be getting Soohorang and Bandabi plushies alongside the medals. I really like the concept of winter Hanbok (the traditional korean folk costume). The podium design is based on the traditional korean architectural style of tile roofs, and intended to give an effect of snow over the roof. http://www.gangneungnews.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=7491 http://m.inven.co.kr/board/powerbbs.php?come_idx=2097&l=869673 https://www.eurosport.es/juegos-olimpicos/asi-fue-la-ceremonia-de-lanzamiento-de-pyeongchang-2018_dia3887/slideshow.shtml Video of the unveiling. At 17:23 I believe we can also hear the music which shall be used for the awarding ceremonies. Quote
BTHarner Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 I like the music, but then I think I say that every time. Quote
intoronto Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 It appears the new trend is mascots instead of flowers... Quote
Ikarus360 Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 Well, I think it alternates. Sometimes its mascots, sometimes its flowers. Soohorang has been quite popular on SK, though. Though giving this plushie a folk hat was a weird decision. I guess its to make it a collectible only obtained for the winners? Quote
Ikarus360 Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 Apparently the hat is called Aisahwa (어사화), which was given by the Joseon kings for those scholars which exceeded over the rest. So I guess its their equivalent of the Olive Wreath. Quote
PikyoK Posted December 28, 2017 Report Posted December 28, 2017 I wonder when Mario and Sonic at the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games will be released? Quote
PikyoK Posted December 29, 2017 Report Posted December 29, 2017 Also, I like the music and the outfits for the medal ceremonies. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 1, 2018 Report Posted January 1, 2018 Seems they're starting to dress up the venues with the Look. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 4, 2018 Report Posted January 4, 2018 Looks like netizens really liked the victory ceremonies uniforms. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 9, 2018 Report Posted January 9, 2018 I'm actually kind of sad they didn't got a miniseries like Vinicius and Tom had. They have to be probably one of my favorite WOG mascots ever. Wait...did that bird part spoiled us those rumored drones scene for the Opening? Quote

I think this has more to do with sponsorship than anything else...Vancouver had an official floral provider (official provider is a level down from the lowest level of "sponsor") and the VIK value was in the range of $150,000-200,000 CAN. If an OCOG doesn't have that relationship, then going with cheaply made stuffed animals is a huge cost saver. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted January 9, 2018 Report Posted January 9, 2018 According to the SSC thread it seems its a new trend which started on Rio, citing they wanted to give the athletes something else which would last forever as a memento of the games they took part. Hence why they went for the mascot plushies and the sculpture. Quote
johnhilly Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 I feel like that olympic channel board is bit foreign to me lol. Just look of the games was enough... 17 hours ago, Ikarus360 said: A bit more of the dressing up Quote
