I thought Torino were the heaviests. Seriously, those medals were a bit overkill size wise when you look back

That was the trick of it. They were the biggest- but those holes in the middle made them lighter than Vancouver's or SLC's (or, apparently, Rio's, which were smaller, but over a centimetre thick in the middle).

Well, we're in October now and there was not an announcement so far of a Mario & Sonic at the Olympics game this time, so I assume this series was seemingly canceled.

However there is another olympics related videogame on the way which still gives us hints about the Look. Steep is launching an expansion related to the Olympics for December. This also seems to be an officially licensed product.

SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Yonhap) -- Forget uninspiring, boring promo posters. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism unveiled Wednesday a series of posters that beautifully combine the images of winter sports and Korean traditional art for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

The eight posters have been selected from 205 entries from 136 artist teams in a contest from May 2 to July 31 to celebrate the opening of the Olympics next February.

In a statement, Jeong Byung-kyu, chairman of the selection committee, highlighted the winners' artistic originality and experimental spirits as well as expression of Korean beauty and sensitivity.

Indeed, all the posters are subtle and artistic in expression of their messages and can't be immediately associated with the Olympics.

Artist Jeon Chang-hyun depicts two bobsledders about to slide down the surface of a Korean traditional pot. A closer look reveals small footprints on the surface -- inspired by the moon -- adding wit and humor.

Kim Ju-sung, a design professor at Myongji College in Seoul, used Korean characters in creating a Korean landscape and visualizing the names of the three cities that will host the games -- PyeongChang, Gangneung and Jeongsun.

"An Olympic Games is a rare opportunity that combines sports and culture," said Roh Tae-kang, the ministry's vice minister, during a press briefing on Wednesday. "We are having the first global event in 30 years so we hope to get support (from the media and the public) for a successful hosting of the event."

The posters will be on display on Nov. 2 to Dec. 3 at the Seoul branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA).

Seems like we got a Medal Podium design, as well for the outfits of the hostesses . Also everyone will be getting Soohorang and Bandabi plushies alongside the medals.

I really like the concept of winter Hanbok (the traditional korean folk costume). The podium design is based on the traditional korean architectural style of tile roofs, and intended to give an effect of snow over the roof.

Well, I think it alternates. Sometimes its mascots, sometimes its flowers. Soohorang has been quite popular on SK, though. Though giving this plushie a folk hat was a weird decision. I guess its to make it a collectible only obtained for the winners?

I'm actually kind of sad they didn't got a miniseries like Vinicius and Tom had. They have to be probably one of my favorite WOG mascots ever.

Wait...did that bird part spoiled us those rumored drones scene for the Opening?

It appears the new trend is mascots instead of flowers...

I think this has more to do with sponsorship than anything else...Vancouver had an official floral provider (official provider is a level down from the lowest level of "sponsor") and the VIK value was in the range of $150,000-200,000 CAN. If an OCOG doesn't have that relationship, then going with cheaply made stuffed animals is a huge cost saver.

According to the SSC thread it seems its a new trend which started on Rio, citing they wanted to give the athletes something else which would last forever as a memento of the games they took part. Hence why they went for the mascot plushies and the sculpture.
