SportLightning Posted August 2, 2022 Report Posted August 2, 2022 With 19 teams have qualified for the 2023 edition, the teams are: France (Host) Argentina Australia Chile* England Fiji Georgia Ireland Italy Japan Namibia New Zealand Romania Samoa Scotland South Africa Tonga Uruguay Wales We only have one spot remaining, which will be played in November from 6th to 18th in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). I think USA has a good shot of Qualifying for the 2023 edition in France. Quote
SportLightning Posted October 6, 2022 Report Posted October 6, 2022 So we are one month left for the final qualifiers in Dubai. Quote
Alexjc Posted November 20, 2022 Report Posted November 20, 2022 Portugal has knocked the United States out of the 2023 WC Finals...The first time that nation has qualified. Quote
SportLightning Posted November 20, 2022 Report Posted November 20, 2022 Actually Portugal had made one appearance back in 2007. So that means it will be the 2nd time Portugal has qualified in the Rugby World Cup. Quote
SportLightning Posted November 20, 2022 Report Posted November 20, 2022 USA will now target the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. First time since 1995 in South Africa, USA have missed out on the Rugby World Cup. Quote
Alexjc Posted December 3, 2022 Report Posted December 3, 2022 So far at this point in time the only nations I can see in the Semi-finals at 2023 are: France England Australia Ireland If France makes it to the final...They'll win it. Quote

France does want to win the Rugby World Cup for the very first time. Quote

That was one Rugby World Cup the USA certainly missed out on for historical reasons at the time given the transition down in South Africa with that nation welcomed back into the international community. A major area of public interest and revenue for the event takes a dent here as USA Rugby built a nice and subsequent appearance streak . A shame, really, this time at a time now when the USA is steadily building a bigger national and international rugby profile and footprint with Major League Rugby as a national pro league and having Americans playing rugby union professionally as examples. Maybe that event deserves a field expansion. Quote

Sir Rols Posted August 26, 2023 Report Posted August 26, 2023 Gotta say, for a non-Olympic year, it’s actually been a pretty good sports year. And now approaching the kick off to what I thought would be the highlight, France 2023! Not that I have high expectations for the Wallabies (unless Eddie Jones can pull a miracle out of his arse). But also, not a good warm-up for the All Blacks: All Blacks lose 35-7 to Springboks in heaviest defeat in their history ahead of Rugby World Cup The Wallabies have their warm up against France tonight. Quote
TorchbearerSydney Posted August 26, 2023 Report Posted August 26, 2023 It has been a crazy year for sport- Women's Football World Cup, Netball WC, Rugby WC, Basketball WC, Athletics and Swimming World Champs, Asian Games and Uni Games....lots of Olympic Qualifiers in there, plus all the regular sports too. Quote
Sir Rols Posted August 26, 2023 Report Posted August 26, 2023 Whoa! Another surprising warm-up result: 'Not good enough': England in disarray as Fiji pull off historic win to emerge as World Cup's darkest horse Quote
Sir Rols Posted August 27, 2023 Report Posted August 27, 2023 And not a great start for Oz either: Wallabies crushed by hosts France on eve of Rugby World Cup as winless 2023 continues Good for the hosts though. On track with their pre-tournament favouritism along with Ireland and South Africa… … and of course, one can never write off the ABs Quote
yoshi Posted August 27, 2023 Report Posted August 27, 2023 England losing to Fiji wasn't really spoken about as much of a shock tbh - England are in a really big mess. I don't know the deep root causes of it because I'm very much a once a year fan of rugby union - well twice this year - but I do know they've been leaking red cards like a sieve. I see you've been daft enough to pick Jones up... Quote
Alexjc Posted September 8, 2023 Report Posted September 8, 2023 Okay whoever's left here... What are your team chances for the quarter finals? Mine are: France, the hosts with most...expected to beat NZ in the opening match. France must remember the tournament carries on for another month and a half. Australia, you just never write this team off until its over, warm up match losses mean sh!t in WC year. Also an incentive to set up a good 2027 Host prediction. Ireland, number 1 in the world at the moment, pretty much booked a place already as well as a spot in the Semis South Africa, definitely starting to peak in performance and have shades of the All Blacks 2015 side, Finalists? New Zealand, will make it through either in first or second place, they'd have to something stupid not to...but then. England, it wouldn't be the first time the Roses have been eliminated early...more incentive to get through. Most likely if they focus. Scotland, has a habit of showing up at the right moment in time and could cause upsets. Fiji, if they play like they did last week then upsets are on the cards. Japan, as brave as they are, they will need to be more so and create their own destiny. Could get through. Samoa, potential is there, and possible. Wales, they have no excuse not to battle their way up to the at least the Semis. Argentina, last but not least, the Giant killers...As like their namesake, they will stalk the herd and take down any weak opponent on the night, England first... What are yours? Quote
Sir Rols Posted September 8, 2023 Report Posted September 8, 2023 (edited) The finalists will be from between France, Ireland, South Africa and NZ. I hope one of the northerners win it. Australia will be lucky if they make it past the quarters. Likely ditto England. Both have the easier side of the draw, though. Scotland, Fiji and Argentina best chances for springing an upset. Sir Rols Posted September 8, 2023 Report Posted September 8, 2023 (edited) I wasn’t going to wake up at 5 am so missed most of it, but France seemed to run away with it once I tuned in. Allez France! Great start! Edited September 8, 2023 by Sir Rols 1 Quote
Scotguy II Posted September 9, 2023 Report Posted September 9, 2023 What I did not understand was why they had Dan Carter bring out the Web Ellis Cup and put it on the plinth. Shouldn't it have been a South Africa player as defending champions or a French player as hosts? NZ thinking they own Rugby is getting very old, they already have the haka at every game and now they present the trophy at another countrys tournament :S Quote

But then, Dan Carter is a popular player in France. Agree with the Haka thing, boring and clichéd... Should be performed in NZ only. NZ teams seem to think it's their right to drop a Haka everywhere they play... 1 Quote
Victorian Posted September 9, 2023 Report Posted September 9, 2023 Why wasn't 'World in Union' part of the Opening Ceremony? Quote
TorchbearerSydney Posted September 9, 2023 Report Posted September 9, 2023 Q: Why wasn't 'World in Union' part of the Opening Ceremony? good question....I cant find anywhere to watch the Opening, it looked good. Quote
