Tokyo 2020 official logo

Recommended Posts

Is the song running in the background Tokyo 2020's theme song for now? :I can't find it anywhere. I really like it.

This is ........ beyond exceptional!!!!!!!! The new level in Olympic Logo renderings. As I said. Only a few countries could pull of this type of logo and get away with it smiling broadly. Japan got away with it best of all! A logo like this cannot work for Boston and should run from anything marked Toronto. You need people who know HOW to tap into harmony to pull off something like this. OH MAN!

Perfect! Thank you. My point exactly. If you are going to reinvent the wheel, Tokyo has shown how it must be done. A London logo in colour would highlight my point even more. This logo is.......it's perfect! Perfect for the age. Simplicity. Cleanliness. Harmony. Tokyo.

(After being safe to post in the right topic, where was my mind...)

Unexpected is the word.

I thought this would be more minimalist, it's already the case (simple shapes) in some way but at the end by assembling them I lose this feeling.

There's a certain potential in this but I'm waiting to see where they will go with this: could be great or bad (actually I'm concerned by the pattern they will put on the banners everywhere in venues, I hope it's not the one we can see at the top of their website 'cuz it looks dated. Personally I feel they should work color by color, not all of them in one design or try something else.

The colors look bland, I'd rather have a good deep black than shades of grey (feels dated) even the red dot could be stronger. Lack of energy, it could be a good design for contemporary art event or restaurant identity but olympics?...

I also note that: the logo looks really heavy on the typo, the space between them should have been bigger.

Overall, I like the fact they took the risk to try something different in olympics habits, will it worth it? I hope.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of energy, mainly comes from the colors. Shapes thing is interesting though.

Good luck Tokyo 2020 ;) !

Every logo since 1992 has been a variation on Barcelona, or has been something unique that nobody else has bothered to try and emulate afterwards. In that sense, only Barcelona's logo can really be said to have undeniably ;) gone down in history.

Save Atlanta and until London, basically yeah.

I wanted to see what the logo would look like it it was more curvy, so here:

cKWAdi8.png

The silver part can bet a hill, and the red dot can be the sun rising from it, with the gold being the rays from the sun, or something like that

I don't think it's any better, though.

I don't think they wanted to use just the sun, cherry blossom, and/or tokyo city logo. It would have been too predictable.

Yeah, I really like the classiness aspect of the logo.

ok judging by the line up, tokyo look like the odd one out. and not it a good way.

its an olympic logo there should be and element of 'sport' or 'movement' to it.

tokyo is just static.

on a side note, detractors of the london logo should note that it still looks fresh as it was 4 years ago.

it still has that youthful charm that people neglect when designing a look for the olympics much like tokyo

I think Toronto just had it's 2024 bid logo just stolen.

The more I ponder it, the more I'm disliking it. Even beyond the font... well, to quote Krow from the Toronto logo comp, the thing I'm getting from it is that the most distinctive thing about Tokyo is if starts with the letter T.

That is one basic uninspired logo. Not liking it at all. Atleast London's "giving head" logo gave us something funny to talk about.

- It is very simple, OK, that's not a negative characteristic

- The colors are depressed

- It is hard to understand

- Dont express any olympic value

- Dont expresses the movement, the excitement and the joy of the games

- Personally it's hard to see what T

- T of Tokyo, OK. But why the Team and Tomorow? Even no words in Japanese. It seemed so random.

- If the slogan is dicover the Tomorow why did a retro logo? This was ironic.

The only thing I don't like is the black. I don't associate black with Japan. I associate blue, red, yellow and white. And come off it, clearly London's is the odd one out.

So dry and corporate looking. Like what you'd expect from a law firm or an investment banker from the 1980s.

One aspect I don't like is the theme of "tomorrow" and "team" - it's such mindless fuzzy rhetoric, something that seems to be common with Asian hosts. The world can be a terrible place for many people, and the Olympics will never change that (it's ultimately an event for the highly privileged). To suggest that the Olympics is part of some solution to the ills of our planet is kind of condescending .

I like it.

Being a regular visitor to Tokyo and knowing it's skyline and the colours of the cityscape it just works. It is industrial, perhaps even with a touch of steampunk.

I think as westerners we see the obscenely over the top side of Japan - it is not all J Pop and Pokemon. Japanese society is as a whole quite reserved and as such this very orderly, minimal logo is highly appropriate. It says a lot more about Japan - traditional and yeah it can be a bit dull - but it is functional.

I'll be in Tokyo again in a few weeks so I will see if there is much in the way of merch/visibility of the logo.

Good. I don't want that thing near or "growing on me" either. Keep it away.

WORST Olympic logos:

1. (tie) PyongChang 2018 - Sochi 2014

2. Vancouver 2010

3. Tokyo 2020

4. London 2012

I'd put Tokyo squarely at No. 1

At least the other logos had color and could be used in different forms. This one is just bland...the real crime is that font...God it looks like something from an I Heart NYC shirt.

I will say that it is definitly classy, sleek, and modern. I just wish they had a more modern font and brighter colors.

The problem is that these designs are the generic interpretation of Japan. Origami, cherry blossom, calligraphy (which Beijing already did), and the rising sun. This logo, as TNMP explained, reflects what Japan is actually like. Simplistic, reserved, and stylish.

I like it in all gold and with a more modern/streamlined typeface:

To me the colors just do not work and that typeface. The design itself I like, but make it all gold or all silver and I'm happy.

I can't see it working on TV. TV these days has a very sharp and vibrant look and this logo is opposite. I like it because it feels retro, but I don't know how it will balance out with the modern architecture of the games or the way TV is broadcasted these days.
