gotosy Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Brazil cuts ribbon on new subway line crucial for Olympics RIO DE JANEIRO Brazilian officials have held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a much-delayed $3 billion subway expansion in Rio de Janeiro less than a week before the Olympic Games begin. Line 4 of the subway is billed as Rio's most important infrastructure project linked to the Olympics. It will transport hundreds of thousands of athletes and fans between the city's iconic beaches and Barra da Tijuca, home to most sporting venues. Officials taking part in Saturday's ceremony rode a subway train through nearly 10 miles of tunnels that were bored underneath the city's verdant hills over the past six years. The line will begin carrying athletes, staff members and ticket holders on Monday, and be open to the general public after the Olympics are over. bomberguy Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Great news! Though a little worrying it is only going to have a very limited time of operation before the Olympics begin. Hope it runs smoothly.
lovecruisingtoo Posted July 31, 2016 Report Posted July 31, 2016 According to one news source, Line 4 will not be available to the ticketed public until the 5th. Prior to that time it will be for accredited workers or Olympic personnel only. http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1040184/rio-subway-extension-due-to-open-tomorrow-for-accredited-olympic-personnel-only Could anyone else find any reference as to when the line will be open to the public?
Petersonnn Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Do I see well that it does not start from stadion General Osorio, only the next on in Ipanema??
gotosy Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 The line 4 starts at General Osorio located in Ipanema, look at the map Quote Until 4 August, the line will be open from 6am to 11pm. During the Games, between 5 and 21 August, the five stations will be open from 6am to 1am, Saturday to Sunday and from 7am until 1am on Sundays and holidays. Between 5 August and 18 September, only people travelling with RioCards or tickets for events will be allowed entry. https://www.rio2016.com/en/news/one-of-the-biggest-legacies-of-rio-2016-metro-line-4-is-inaugurated

" and " Temer attended the maiden voyage of the line between the stations Nossa Senhora da Paz e Jardim Oceânico" So everywhere there is only Nosa Senhore de Paz and not General Osorio which is interesting.
paul Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 why is this so confusing, is it open or not and where does it stop?
Oooswald Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Line 4 goes from General Osorio to Jardim Oceânico. During the Games, people who are travelling on Line 1 should transfer to Line 4 on the General Osorio station.

Oooswald Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 1 minute ago, scoobiesnacks said: Thanks. Where do you get off for which events? This new line is basically for venues at Barra, like the Olympic Park, Riocentro and Golf. You should get off on the final station, Jardim Oceanico, and take the respective BRT line (bus rapid transit).
cubebox Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Guys in Rio, I got a question. I've been reading the Metro Rio website and it says that you need to have de Olympic Paying Card PLUS tickets for the day if you wanna use Linha 4. Has someone already use it? I mean, 'cause I have to pick up my tickets from Cartan at Barra (close to Jardim Oceanico station) this thursday and using Metro seems to be the fastest way to go there.
zekekelso Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 There a good chance Line 4 won't be open to anyone but official people until Aug 5 at the earliest.

lovecruisingtoo Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 My understanding is that Line 4 will not be open to the public until the 5th. This has been confirmed via various sources. So yes, it takes a couple of hours to get from Copacabana to Barra but it is no big deal. Just plan the time. We are staying in Barra and would have liked Line 4 to be open on the 4th or earlier but we have just adjusted our plans for the 4th. It should be an enjoyable time - just be flexible.
Oooswald Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Today was the first operational day of the line 4, just for the Olympic family. It took 14 minutes from General Osorio to Jardim Oceanico. On August 5th will be the opening for spectators. You have to show the Games' tickets and the special transportation card.

Rastafounder Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Bought Rio Card today at the Mega Store, Copacabana. Just in front of the entrance
lovecruisingtoo Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 just an update. Turns out that seniors do not need the RioCard. Anyone over 65, if they have a picture ID and a ticket for that day, can ride the system without the pass.
Hobart Posted August 8, 2016 Report Posted August 8, 2016 Went to Deodoro yesterday and man the walk is long and doesn't need to be. Should be about a 10 min walk but the make you walk past the entry gate cross a closed road to walk another 10 min back o the gate. On a positive when you exit you leave from the station inside the venue not sure why the couldn't use it for entry as well rather than a 30 min walk.
scoobiesnacks Posted August 8, 2016 Report Posted August 8, 2016 Line 4 closed unexpectedly last night at 12:30am . Chaos at Jardim Oceânico Station for people returning from Olympic Park
