MissEurasia
I don't know if anyone knows about this but Malaysia and Thailand are considering putting forth a joint bid with Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Here is the link to an article I found about it: http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/498302/thailand-eyes-joint-bid-for-games Apparently they're also considering a joint bid for the FIFA World Cup: http://sport-asia.com/olympics-thailand-malaysia-linked-to-joint-2024-olympics-bid/
plusbrilliantsexploits
Fairly sure that a joint Malaysia/Thailand bid won't fly with the IOC. Also, KL on its own has the cachet and infrastructure to stage the Olympic Games on its own - why share them with Bangkok, capital of a country that only knows political and economic stability from textbooks? MissEurasia
^^That's exactly what I was thinking, Both cities are capable of hosting big sporting events individually, I mean Kuala Lumpur hosted the 1998 CWGs whilst Bangkok hosted numerous Asian Games, I don't see why they need to bid together. plusbrilliantsexploits
True, I think that the rumour mill has gone into overdrive in regard to candidates for the 2024 Olympics: first India, now Malaysia - and that doesn't quite consider that that Tokyo 2020 makes another Asian candidate highly unlikely...I wouldn't be surprised if we are left with the candidates already known for a while... TorchbearerSydney
Agenda 2020 is a mixed blessing- it will start giving hope to all sorts of bizarre hybrid, regional, co-city bids that the IOC will steer well clear of. Would love to see KL host one day on its own- Malaysia is an amazing country, and KL a great city.
MissEurasia
I doubt this Bid will become Official, I would think they would hold back a couple years due to Pyeongchang 2018, Tokyo 2020 & POSSIBLY Beijing 2022.
runningrings
Malaysia should just go it alone. Kuala Lumpur would be a brilliant host city - possibly the next Asian SOG host after Tokyo (if China doesn't jump in before with Shanghai) KL should aim for 2036. Roger87
Yep, KL should do this alone.
