Eddie the Eagle movie being made (Calgary 88)

Recommended Posts

A movie about Eddie the Eagle is being filmed. Starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman.

Too bad they can't really film it on the jumps here in Calgary as the ramp on the big jump was de-activated a number of years ago, and WinSport put a chairlift in the jump bowl. Wondering if the crew may show up just to do some shots around Olympic Park.

I don't know why they wouldn't get Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys to play Eddie? They look the exact same.

Hopefully it lives up to the very high standards of that other Calgary 88 classic 'Cool Runnings'...

Taron Egerton was very, very good in 'Kingsman'.

I'm curious, anyone recognize the jumps behind Hugh Jackman? Obviously they aren't Calgary's. I don't recognize them.

Maybe Oberstdorf, not sure though.

I really enjoyed the movie. Except for the loud groan in the theater coming from the audience of locals when "Calgary" showed up on screen. Which was understandable given that they couldn't film here due to the 90 meter being deactivated, and a chairlift installed in the jump bowl. It's playing at the second-run theater now so will probably see it again.

Amusing that they got Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman to sing with OMD for the soundtrack...

Jason Bailey from Flavorwire has.

And I suspect that the title of his article gives a pretty accurate summary:

‘Eddie the Eagle’ Is a Knowingly Charming Riff on the Cheesy ‘80s Sports Movie

It finally arrived in our local picture palace, and yes, that article title was indeed quite accurate.
