This is 1980 Lake Placid Opening Ceremony photo, so USA marched last as the host.

Yugoslavian team must have felt a bit awkward standing between USSR and USA (and considering Tito showed huge FU to Stallin in 1950s).

Russians look stereotypically Russian, Americans look stereotypically American... Those were awful years...

Are you sure it's complete? I believe you missed Hong Kong :P

So after Hungary, it should be Hong Kong, China. Dunno if the Organizing Committee will use "Hong Kong" only or "Jongguk Hongkong" ("Hong Kong, China" in Korean). I've watched 2014 Asian Games OC, but had forgotten about the parade country name boards already

Japan are probably going to do the same thing in Tokyo, it's just most of the country's names are either written in katakana or kanji, two letter styles of the Japanese language.

Katakana is mainly used for transliterating foreign words or names in the Japanese language. Kanji is just basically Chinese characters with Japanese pronunciations.

Like Greece's Japanese name is Girisha so I guess that's how it will go in Tokyo.

Also Beijing are gonna probably do what they did with their parade back in 2008.

Given the Hangul alphabet is the central theme of the whole brand, it would be paradoxical if the march of athletes wasn't done in Hangul as well.

Btw, Egypt already recognized Israel as a country long ago so they're really not a problem. I would worry more about Iran. As for North Korea, even if they boycott no one is really going to miss them anyway.

Japan also has their own names for countries instead of just transliterating straight from english. Great Britain is called Igirisu and Germany is Doitsu, for example. Japan refers to North Korea as Kita-Chosen (Chosen comes from Joseon, the old name of Korea) and South Korea as Kankoku.
