Sir Rols Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 Sir Rols: Yes, Herr Bach. I’ve paid Puppy off. I’m sure he’ll be back to cause trouble, but you can go on now. Sir Rols: Thank you Herr Bach for that colourful musical opening. While you make your costume change and before I hand the microphone back to you, I also want us all to put our hands together to the IOC Executive Committee members as the cabaret girls. I never thought Coatsey would look so good in fishnets. Anyway, what’s that Herr Bach? You’re ready. Okay, let me hand back over to our emcee tonight, IOC President and Olympic Gold medallist in Fencing in 1976, the Wunder von Wurzburg, Herr Thomas Bach! *applause* Thomas Bach: Meine Damen und Herren, Mesdames et Monsieurs, Ladies and Gentlemen, Wilkommen und Ho! Ho! Ho! Frohliche Weinachten, Merry Christmas to all of you. Especially to our hosts, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene, who haff graciously invited us into their home for ziss festive season. The fact ve haff sacrificed our Christmas komforts to komm here out of season to Monte Carlo shows how seriously ve take der burden ve haff set ourselves - to secure the very future off the Olympic Games through mein meister battle plan, Agenda Tventy-Tventy! To demonstrate just how serious ve take our task, this year ve dedicate the 8th Annual GamesBids Olympic Logo Competition to Agenda Tventy-Tventy. To ziss end I haff decreed that the summer logo challenge ve set you ziss year vill be to brand our upcoming celebration of the games of that year in the city of Tokyo, Japan. Und the vinter city logo, it vill be Tventy-Tventy Too!. Almost. Ja, ve know zat for 2022, now that the Norwegians haff betrayed us, ve are but left now with scheisse! Zis kann not be! Therefore I haff asked advice from mein colleague on the USOC, Herr Probst, und sent invitations to cities around the vorld, asking for expressions off graphic interest in their hosting off those Games. Ve will choose the host from whoever is chosen by you as the best logo from these cities. To let you know the vinter candidate cities, and to outline the terms und conditions off the contest, I vill hand you back to mein Hauptwerker-Elf, Sir Rols. You vill follow his orders, und you vill all haff ein wunderbare festive season und contest. Get mit der Agenda und Viel Gluck! *all stand and applaud* ___________________ Okay, now that Puppy forced my hand, down to business and explanations. Summer: Tokyo 2020 I’ve had lots of people suggesting cities to me this year. And by far the most common suggestion was Tokyo. And the timing was right - this may be our only opportunity to do it. So, in the tradition of our previous Rio 2016 logo comp, this year you’re being asked to give TOCOG a hand and design the logo for Tokyo 2020. They might even notice us. The brief is: Make Tokyo interesting! Give us something that will raise our enthusiasm and anticipation for our upcoming journey to Japan. Let’s see some creative and contrasting approaches to branding 2020. Futuristic or Tradtional? Woodblock or Manga? Edo or Harajuku? Hokusai or Miyazaki? Let’s see how you’d sell Tokyo 2020 to the world. The logos should be presented as full colour designs on white background. If you like, however, they can also be presented in black and white or utilised in forms like street banners, t-shirts, apps, vehicles, pins etc. For voting purposes, the main (colour) logo will be used on the polls, but any extra material you produce may help you “sell” your design better to the wider GamesBids voting membership. This is a host logo, so the Olympic rings are to be used.Post your preliminary submissions on the Tokyo 2020 Logo thread I will start. If you want to hold anything back to be presented as a “surprise” when voting starts you can contact me via PM and I'll tell you where you can send the extra material. If you do post publicly, feel free to post as many logo designs as you like. You will get critiques and feedback, for better or for worse. When the time comes for voting, however, you will be asked to settle on ONE official logo as your official entry. The deadline for submissions is midnight (Sydney time) on December 31 – ie, you can submit your logos before the end of this year. All final logos will be displayed for some time before voting commences early in the new year. I anticipate we’ll vote on this in the traditional “IOC Host City Selection” format when the time comes. More details on voting when it’s time. Winter: 2022 - The Magnificent Seven This time I thought we’d use the winter side of the comp to experiment. Like any good reality show, to bring in some format tweaks and gimmicks. I thought of setting the twins against each other in Blood versus Water, but desisted. Instead, it's multiple choice-multiple entry. It's specifically designed to for try and get a BIG field. You are asked to submit logos for any of the following seven cities for the Winter Olympic Games of the year 2022: Anchorage, USA Santiago, Chile Melbourne, Australia (it’s about time, we’ve never had an Aussie city in these comps!) Harbin, China Borjomi, Georgia Barcelona, Spain, and, in tribute to Eurovision 2015 Salzburg, Austria You may submit logos for as many of those cities as you wish from the list. In other words, you can have up to seven entries, one for each city. All logos are to be posted in the Winter 2022 Logos thread I will start. You may post as many preliminary submissions as you wish for critique and feedback. Before submissions close, however, you will be asked to nominate a single logo for each city (or as many cities you entered) as your official entry/entries. You can, as in the summer comp, contact me to submit privately. The deadline for submissions, as in the summer section, is midnight (Sydney time) on December 31. Soon after, all official entries will be displayed for a period of time. Voting will commence soon after. The reason we want a big field is I want to try out a different voting format on this one. One that's been persistently championed to me all year by yoshi. For his sins, he's gonna have to bloody well accept an official role as Werker Elf #2 in this. More details when the times comes, but it will be an attempt to make a live and dynamic voting "event". A few Eurovision fan members here have had had experience with the format. It should be fun. It may be a mess. But hopefully we’ll have some laughs trying. More, come the New Year. As usual, I will rule on any disputes with either section of the comps. Don't listen to Pups. Unless I say you can. Just remember, this is all meant to be fun. Try to keep the spirit friendly. I'll shut up now. Good luck everyone!
Olympic Fan Darcy Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 I told myself I wouldn't embarrass myself by showing my poor art skills but you might have tempted me with Melbourne!
woohooitsme83 Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 I was halfway finished with my Hong Kong logo. Dang it!
Rob2012 Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 Epic kick-up-the-arse from Pups there. Went to sleep in Hong Kong, woke up this morning in Tokyo. Will probably give actual-host Tokyo a shot. And a reminder from contests-past....... Want to enter but don't want to use a pencil and paper or MS Paint? Fear not! Free software from the interweb is available... Inkscape - for vector graphics, drawing http://www.inkscape.org/ Paint.net - for photo editing and manipulation http://www.getpaint.net/ Best of luck everyone and thanks once again to Sir Rols for getting it organised (eventually)!
DannyelBrazil Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 I'm in, as every year.About new voting system, why? The old one worked so well... Please, don't come again with the shortlist thing before voting... Anxious for one more logo comp! =]
Sir Rols Posted November 29, 2014 Author Report Posted November 29, 2014 I'm in, as every year. About new voting system, why? The old one worked so well... Please, don't come again with the shortlist thing before voting... Anxious for one more logo comp! =] What can I say? I'm just a guy who can't say no. I had some persistent lobbying all year for me to give it a try. Yes, it will be little more complex - mainly on my side to organise and keep track of it. But I've seen the system in operation. The main benefit is that for those who want to give it a try, the voting will happen as an online event we hope people here will come in to "watch" unfold live. And it will be Eurovision style, which many people have suggested over the tears, but I've resisted. How, or if, we use it will depend on how many entries we get - hence trying to push for a big winter field. At the very least, it will be a different way for the GamesBids voters to devise the short list and if it seems unwieldy, we can go back to normal procedure for the final rounds. And summer I'm being careful to stick to the tried and trusted format... for now. I'll go into more details in a few days. Speaking of simplicity, I was going to start new threads to submit the logos into, but am too lazy. Just submit them all here. Epic kick-up-the-arse from Pups there. ! I didn't know whether to be pissed off or relieved. It was in keeping with the tone of past comps, though. Thanks for the freeware advice. I'm not quite hip on the latest tools the young 'uns are using these days. Photoshop was good enough for me back in the day...
DannyelBrazil Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 And it will be Eurovision style, I have no idea how Eurovision system is and are we intended to do everything Eurovision fans wants? Specially the non-Euro members? Anyway, let's give it a try... Maybe some new system can be a nice idea... Just hope, all the process be something open to people to vote in all phases. Nothing against Puppy old rules and nothing personal against him, but to leave shortlist decision to one people and personal desires will be a major reason to me to withdrawn my participation (which is not relevant to the whole thing, I know that). So far, bring it on the comp!
Sir Rols Posted November 29, 2014 Author Report Posted November 29, 2014 Just hope, all the process be something open to people to vote in all phases. That goes without saying. Of course.
DannyelBrazil Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 That goes without saying. Of course. \o/
ofan Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 I'm expecting something good from woohooitsme based on all of the designs that he posts on here.

Palette86 Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 This will be a great fun to me! Also will be interesting how GB members express Tokyo. I'd like to join but I'm busy and have no time to create my logo so I will be an observer and appreciating the logos. @rols,thanks for using soyoshi .
MissEurasia Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 I have an idea for Harbin, Can I incorporate their 2010 logo into it though? like remake it?
ofan Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 I have an idea for Harbin, Can I incorporate their 2010 logo into it though? like remake it? No
Anthony Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 NOT MY FINAL SUBMISSION. I would just like some feedback! Thanks guys!
Sir Rols Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 I have an idea for Harbin, Can I incorporate their 2010 logo into it though? like remake it? I actually can't remember a Harbin 2010 logo. Why not show us your idea, and post the Harbin 2010 logo with it, and let us judge? If it's too close, well, people will let you know where it fits in on that fine line between "inspired by", "tribute to" and "lifted from". I was wondering if anyone would go with Tokyo using or incorporating somehow the rising sun that was a common feature for both Tokyo 64 and Sapporo 72.
MissEurasia Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 Well, the thing is, I used the logo as a part of the logo entry, but I redrew the entire Harbin 2010 Logo.
Sir Rols Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 Well, the thing is, I used the logo as a part of the logo entry, but I redrew the entire Harbin 2010 Logo. Lets see it - or when you have a version you want to show us. I really think it will depend on how it's applied.
MissEurasia Posted November 30, 2014 Report Posted November 30, 2014 For some odd reason, when I put the URL into the Images thing, it freezes and won't let me upload. It won't let me paste a plain URL either.
Sir Rols Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 I've just PM'ed you with my email address. Goes for anyone having problems uploading. Just drop me a line, and I can tell you where to send it or I can post it for you.
Sir Rols Posted November 30, 2014 Author Report Posted November 30, 2014 Okay, here's Miss Eurasia's submission (with original Harbin 2010 logo atop). My view? I think it's graphically distinct enough from the 2010 to accept.
