SkiFreak 123
This popped up in the new: Vancity Buzz: SkyTrain Canada Line records 200-millionth passenger Just a heads-up that the title is a little misleading. The Canada Line is not SkyTrain tech. The old Expo Line is SkyTrain. Looks the same but the Canada Line trains are wider and use a 3rd powered rail. At least the Canada Line is a success, post 2010. runningrings 678
Calgary 88 has way more sporting legacy than Vancouver 2010. As far as gold medals for Canada is concerned, it doesn't. Even if this is true, who cares?
thatsnotmypuppy 559
Vancouver's legacy will be how to stage a Games in an urban area without completely overpowering the location. Both Sochi and PC need/needed vast new Olympic Parks and huge swaths of infrastructure upgrades. Vancouver showed how to minimise the disruptions to the locals, build up atmosphere naturally (not forcing it) and how to run a modest yet widely embraced event. The 2010 Olympic Games beloned to Vancouver. The 2014 Games belonged to the IOC and were just staged in Sochi. The locals for the most part got nothing out of them.

Kenadian 300
And lit in the morning. Should have been in the evening so people could get out an enjoy/relive it. But then again, it has been very rainy today. But good thing it was Vancouver 2010 and not Vancouver 2015...snow conditions this year are absolutely terrible. Anyway, great memories from five years ago. Feeling very nostalgic today.

Yeah, what a winter: Seymour - closed Hemlock - closed Mt Washington - closed Whistler - wet, wet, wet Even out here on this side of the Rockies, Castle Mountain by Pincher Creek had to shut down it's midweek operations to fix the runs. I went skiing to Nakiska yesterday, the '88 games Olympic hill, and all we're skiing on is man-made snow.

Perhaps the IOC should take into account climate change when picking a city for the Winter Olympics.
JMarkSnow2012 387
Perhaps the IOC should take into account climate change when picking a city for the Winter Olympics. Or rather, just embrace the notion that many winter sports are not in any way associated with cities.
