And to that point, this is from new Olympic sponsor Intel's perspective on how it contributes to NBC's Winter Olympic VR 360 debut while presenting at Las Vegas CES 2018 show:

Intel's Pyeongchang 2018 True VR fact sheet that offers further details that got missed along with a multinational Team Intel Olympic announced (3 from East Asia including 1 from the South Korean hosts, 1 American):

https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/01/intel-true-vr-olympics-fact-sheet.pdf

Also, sometimes I wonder why can't Westwood One Sports Radio can't even conduct special Olympic-themed programming themselves like what Radio-Canada is doing. We don't quite what the English Canadian Olympic radio programming will be as of yet. But I expect similar things there. I would say Westwood One Sports could temporarily take over two SiriusXM radio channels for most of the month of February.

For Canadian residents: CTV/TSN share in the presentation of the 2018 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in Vancouver at the Doug Mitchell UBC Thunderbirds Sports Centre--formerly the UBC Winter Sports Centre for Vancouver 2010's Olympic men's and women's ice hockey and Paralympic sledge hockey--as some of Canada's figure skating finest vie for those Pyeongchang spots starting this Friday hosted by Brian Williams, Rod Black, the voice of figure skating in Canada, in the broadcast booth alongside analyst Tracy Wilson, a seven-time Canadian Ice Dance champion and Olympic bronze medallist. Reporting from rinkside and backstage is SPORTSCENTRE’s Sara Orlesky. CTV TWO handles the FTA portion. Also seen on TSN GO, CTV GO, and tsn.ca/live with RDS providing the French coverage:

https://www.tsn.ca/olympic-hopefuls-ready-for-2018-canadian-tire-national-skating-championships-1.962233

Very little still developments regarding Brazil's Globo and how it may treat the Winter Olympics, which of course lacks the same level of high interest that the Summer counterpart obviously gets. Not even with the promos--surely they're coming later this month. But I wonder if will TV Globo/SPORTV this time as exclusive broadcaster dedicate its coverage in memory of Marco Mora, who died last Wednesday of pulmonary fibrosis and covered several Olympics in his 40+ years at the Brazilian television giant:

http://g1.globo.com/jornal-nacional/noticia/2018/01/morre-em-sp-aos-71-anos-marco-mora-ex-diretor-de-esportes-da-globo.html

With the lack of abundant snow across the continent even in patches, it's very unlikely we will a serious African Winter Olympic medal contender for the forseeable future, much less an actual medalist. But that certainly won't stop Africans from competing and a global event like the Olympics can obviously help build attention for years, publicity in those nations, and build in the long run a pedigree and some semblance of a winter sports culture. South African-based SuperSport, which nowdays likes to present itself as Pan-Africanist these days including fellow Commonwealth African nations Nigeria and Kenya in its focus, has been doing it since 1998 and now Kwese Sports joins in. Consequently with that little winter sports pedigree and focus instead on what are classified as summer sports, African attention is marginal. What do you do as a terrestrial broadcaster rights holder for 2 Winter Olympics? Kwese TV Sports looks to educate Africans about these sports in the Winter Olympics with instructional videos as it grows viewers interest and breaks the SuperSport monopoly in the first details of its Sub-Saharan African coverage plans for Pyeongchang 2018. Or for SuperSport for that matter. No doubt there will be serious promotion and focus on the Nigerian 3-women bobsled team on both. Kwese TV plans from its website "a special Olympic News show in the mornings and evenings of the duration of the Games, as well as a highlights show every evening. We’ll also run an extra ‘Pop-Up Channel’ for LIVE events, should there not be enough space on our normal channels.” Still wondering about the French and maybe even the Portuguese-language Sub-Saharan African TV/online/mobile/radio plans:

Looks like CBC has some people freelancing for them this year, with Mark Lee, Chris Cuthbert and Steve Armitage working the Olympics on a freelance basis. I guess that means that the NHL people are not going.

Yesterday's CBC Sports press release does say Ron MacLean and Don Cherry will be involved with special Coach's Corner editions during select Olympics matches if the Hockey Night In Canada broadcast schedule allows them such, namely Canada men's and women's hockey matches in all likelihood. Glad to see Kate Beirness getting some CBC Olympic hockey hosting as well as Cassie Campbell-Pascal serving as analyst. Cassie really knows her stuff and is really good as the first female in-game HNIC analyst for Rogers SportsNet--it's why she's among the The Hockey News' 100 People Of Power And Influence in Hockey at #88. We don't know exactly what TSN and Rogers SportNet will show and for how many hours each in total Fuller events to be sure. But we can safely presume with in association with the CBC, Canadians will see everything short of the practices during the English-language TV side. Did expect Nabil Karim, Brad Fay, and Arash Madani to be back repping for their respective cable sports networks in TSN and Rogers, but it's nice to see them have other on-air studio talent back in Toronto joining them. So this seems more like to me extended programming hours coming for them. Obviously TSN doesn't need all of its channels to cover them; just no more than two of them--perhaps TSN and TSN2. We also can safely assume Pyeongchang 2018 will become a 4KTV presentation with this obviously being a major project.

The RAI 2 and RAI Sport+ HD Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic TV schedule just arrived a few hours ago for Italy (and San Marino) viewers with the announcement at CONI's headquarters in Rome as the free-to-air state broadcasters makes its Winter Olympic broadcasting return in 8 years. As expected with both being a part of it getting the rights it's a combined total of over 110 hours, meeting the minimum of TV hours for the Winter Olympics. RAI 2 starts with the live Opening Ceremony at 11:55 on February 9 and live competition at 1:45am with one extended morning block on some days and two shorter ones on others RAI Sport+ HD arriving with its portion the next day and usually coming, until the last Winter Olympic weekend, in 3-4-hour late morning/mid-afternoon blocks Italy time somewhere between 11-3pm. Emphasis at RAI of course will focus on Team Italia Azzurri like Arianna Fontana, Carolina Kostner, Dominik Paris, Sofia Goggia, Federico Pellegrino, Dorothea Wierer, and Fedrica Brignone but will touch worthy Olympic-related topics like the North-South Korea diplomatic relations and tensions including the usual commentaries, summaries, special services, news, hopes, sacrifices, and emotions.  An early evening 30-45 minute daily magazine show will come on RAI 2 somewhere between 18:45-19:35. Sportface.it can be followed constantly with all the pieces, the results, the Italians involved in the Olympic competitions, the medal stand updated in real time, news, and videos. Thought Italy would compete early for curling in the mixed doubles so that RAI may come in early but actually isn't.

Leading the RAI team following the Olympics, with 10 commentators and 6 analysts, will be Ivana Vaccari, who will also be responsible for conducting the Games alternating with Amedeo Goria, Sabrina Gandolfi, and Luca Di Bella all back in RAI's Milan studios following the action. Among the RAI reporters are Elisabetta Caporale, Stefano Curone, Davide Novelli, and Stefano Rizzato. Eurosport Italia's team will be composed of Giorgio Rocca, three Olympic cross-country skiers in Fulvio Valbusa, Gabriella Paruzzi and Marco Albarello, and bronze medal alpine skiier Karen Putzer:

Eurosport Sweden makes public its Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic sportscasting team, Sweden's biggest Olympic TV squad ever in history at 120, with Karen Frick, Peter Forsberg, Anja Parson, Magdelena Forsberg, Jonas Karlsson, Per Elofsson, Kim Martin, Hakan Loob, Peter Ekwall, Paul Ahlgren, Anders Sodergren, Jessica Almanas, Jesper Noren, Sara Karlsson, Maria Danielsson, and Seb Kraupp headlining to name several of them that now includes a digital-only team. Live coverage starts at 1am Sweden time on Kanal 5, the Swedish Olympic TV home and where the top events and Swedish medal hopes head towards, and onwards to 16:00 (4pm) with Jonas Karlsson leading Eurosport's daytime studio segment and opening at 6am every day to guide viewers through Swedish medal prospects and classical sports moments. Between 16-19:00, those who missed the competitions during the day has the chance to update when the main highlights and moments are shown in packaged form. Then at 19:00 it's Jessica's and Anja's OS-magazine show. Kanal 9 compliments things when programming events clash with Kanal 5's, which surely will happen often during the course of the Winter Olympics. Eurosport 1 in Sweden is the home of nothing but hockey with Eurosport 2 takes on an international perspective. You'll notice that some sports like short track, snowboarding, and the bobsled/luge/skeleton have only commentators for Kanal 5/Eurosport/Kanal 9:

As the most-watched sports TV network in Poland among the 16-49 age demo with an increase in viewership of somewhere between 21-24%, Eurosport's got major plans for its Polish language Winter Olympics intended for improved and better engagement and that includes 4D replays and augmented realities, 150-person staff with nearly 60 decorated Polish athletes as expert commentators, and Polish Olympic fan zones for the first time:

NBC OLYMPICS ANNOUNCES ITS PYEONGCHANG 2018 OLYMPIC HOCKEY COMMENTARY TEAM

Did expectedly get the regular pieces of NHL On NBC team like Albert, Milbury, McGuire, and Roenick over in Pyeongchang. AJ Mleczko is the women's returnee. Surprising to find TSN's Tessa Bonhomme and Gord Miller joining the southern behemoth enemy. Both really should be at CBC Olympics and was stunned to see them not on the roster yesterday--maybe this is a consequence of that massive Rogers NHL Canadian TV deal. Too bad Doc Emrick surprisingly decides to stay at home this time with the NHL games surrounded by the Winter Olympics. Perhaps wouldn't do the Olympic hockey with longtime partner Eddie Olczyk continuing his cancer treatment. Hoping Johnny Walton will be as good in NBC Olympic women's hockey like he is with his Washington Capitals radio play-by-play.

Press release of the latest Eurosport Spain's Road To Pyeongchang episode centers on Paralympic champion alpine skiier Jon Sanatacana with a 2-part video interview of Spanish biathlete Victoria Padial accompanying this piece:

Does hold the Canadian NHL national TV rights after all. TSN does have the advantage as I say here of multiple channels. Rogers SportsNet, with its portion of the Canadian Olympic TV coverage this year in Pyeongchang, will get Olympic broadcasting representation based on the mentioning of the studio hosts and the on-location reporter in the CBC press release. Did notice on the website that Thursday, February 8 SportsNet will have Olympic Morning going at 6:30am. Did you see an updated version online because we might need to see this? TSN and Rogers SportsNet will have their selection of sports to take like it did back in 2014-2016 with the former getting greater priority. Rogers SportsNet here in North America doesn't need to get Olympic action like the live hockey and figure skating in the evening/primetime portion; Sportsnet can have their select daily live Olympic event portions somewhere in the overnight/early morning to midday and NHL games evening programming time frame still won't largely interfere with that neither having no need for their own respective highlight/summary programming and leave for the CBC.

Seems we already got leaked the OBS official intro sequence for Pyeongchang 2018, from this Romanian ad.

Judging for the music style it seems Yang Bang Ean (who is the Music Producer of the ceremonies) composed this variation of Arirang.

Reminds us of how NBC first ushered in the Olympic HDTV era in the USA with delayed Athens 2004 Olympic footage in that format on the now-defunct Universal Network HD now 14 years ago. Came a long way in such a short time. Looking forward to what the 8KTV development will be in store come Tokyo.

We know Match TV was planning to broadcast Pyeongchang 2018 after all with the official banning of the Russian Olympic Committee. Channel One already announced it will regardless. VGTRK said hell no. Now we can confirm that Perviy Kanal, Match TV, and VGTRK's Rossiya 1 all will show the Olympics after all "in a significant amount" and will "divide the Olympic broadcast themselves with the sports" like following Germany's and Denmark's pattern in deciding "who will broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies" (which is still being negotiated). Naturally, fans back home home will cheer on the Olympic Athletes From Russia on these being channels with the doping scandal context surrounding it embarassing the nation globally and tarnishing the Sochi 2014 legacy. Don't forget the Russian broadcasting rights were acquired through an intermediary company called TeleSport. I do think Match TV will cover the lion's share of the events broadcast with Channel One taking the Olympic Athletes From Russia-only events when they're serious medal contenders.

Reiterating what I recently mentioned about SRG. The more remote location in South Korea from Switzerland prompts the SRG's Olympic budget get reduced from 21.5 million Swiss francs to 19 million and a staff down to 160 from from 240 providing a combined 1000 hours that means fewer local people and infrastructure is needed. Production will be divided between Pyeongchang to SRG studios in Zurich, Geneva, and Lugano in each of the three Swiss cantons. Moreover, SRG will be behind the IOC world feed alpine skiing production over in Pyeongchang for the fifth time and its fourth consecutive Winter Olympics:

Surprised you didn't even mention that British figure skating legends Jane Torvill, Christopher Dean, and Robin Cousins (I'd watch the BBC figure skating coverage just for them!) along with 2010 skeleton gold medalist Amy Williams, British Olympic skiers Chemmy Alcott and Graham Bell providing analysis all are part of the BBC broadcasting.

More BBC Sport Pyeonghcnag 2018 info emerges like the amazing Claire Balding and Hazel Irvine leading the studio coverage, joined by Eilidh Barbour and Radzi Chinyanganya, bringing all of the action direct to fans from Pyeongchang. Daily coverage goes from midnight until 8pm across BBC1 and BBC2, which will also host daily highlights program, for the 17-day duration of the Winter Games. Coverage starts with Claire Balding's Road To The Olympic Games on February 8 on BBC2 and the Opening Ceremony on BBC1. As for the BBC radio, BBC TV supplemental, Red Button, online/mobile, and BBC iPlayer coverage...

Radio coverage of the Winter Olympics will be broadcast on BBC Radio 5 live, with accomplished sporting voices Eleanor Oldroyd and Rob Hatch presenting all the main events and races live across 5 live’s daytime schedules. The breakfast programme will be the first to bring listeners overnight key activity from Pyeongchang, and the duo’s running commentary live on location throughout the day will follow our hopefuls, reporting on all of Team GB’s medal moments.

BBC Sport’s TV schedule will ensure fans catch all their favourite moments and key highlights from the Games, the beeb note, stating that alongside the latest medals table and results they will also bring to air extra features such as reaction and analysis from BBC reporters and sporting talent. BBC Two’s daily highlights programme will be bringing the best bits of the day, and will also be available on BBC iPlayer and Red Button. BBC Sport online will also live stream all the key moments of the Winter Olympics accessible at any time via the corporation’s website.

“We are bringing audiences every moment that matters from Pyeongchang 2018. With exclusive, behind-the-scenes access and expert commentary, we will be taking this global sporting event to the widest possible UK audience, ensuring BBC Sport is the place to be for all the Winter Olympics action this February.” – Barbara Slater, Director of BBC Sport

Regarding Belgium, the public broadcaster with both Flemish and French broadcasting services, VRT and RTBF, respectively, do get together for massive transmission projects like the Olympic Games, World Cup, and national elections with their staffs sitting together as EBU members. But these structural cooperations don't occur often and are thus limited--and neither side actually take the time to learn the other's language very well at the very same Brussels headquarters. Much less integrated and systematic meetings. Few years from now, both will have separate headquarters:

HULU WILL TEAM STREAM NBC'S PYEONGCHANG 2018 WINTER OLYMPIC COVERAGE, LIVE AND ON-DEMAND WITH VIEWER CUSTOMIZATION AND FULL ACCESS

While everything will shown on Eurosport across Europe, including Italy, with its 900 hours on its channels and Eurosport Player, its Italian terrestrial sublicenser RAI, along with Team Italia Azzurri will show the best of the best and biggest events and both ceremonies on 110 hours of coverage. Did notice on the RAI schedule that ice hockey's not on the schedule released yesterday:

SBS, KBS, and MBC, TV Technology says, will engage in next-gen ATSC 3.0 4K UHD over-the-air broadcasting of Pyeongchang 2018 after all despite reports saying due to the fall strike involving KBS and MBC. Must have been working on this very extensively nonstop for many days to reach February. Since this past fall, all new LG 4K UHD TVs and most new LG smart TVs sold in South Korea include dual ATSC 3.0-ATSC 1.0 tuner chips. LG also says it's trialling the 4KTV ATSC 3.0 UHD next-gen standard the American broadcasting active participation starting with CES in Las Vegas this week:

An update on the Rogers SportsNet TV scheduling that Daniel Anderson400 brought up. Just checked on the latest days available with February 8 and 9 as I write this. Rogers SportsNet's TV broadcast schedule has on February 8 just Olympic Morning programmed at 6am CT, and SN on the next day has Olympic Games Morning at 4:30am but SportNet Ontario and SportsNet East both have Olympic Games Primetime at 6pm while the other Rogers SportsNet channels are carrying NHL games at this evening timeslot doesn't exactly say where it begins and ends. Should point though at this point the schedule for February is still forming until an official announcement for listings happen very soon.

ORF Sport +'s short near 17-minute documentary report on the behind-the-scenes making and look at the preparations leading up to them with its international sports hosting pedigree. Also we see how the Austrian Olympic Committeee and Team Austria are getting prepared. The intro to this could very well be the Pyeongchang 2018 OBS intro if not ORF's. In any case, it looks great:

Now that I've seen this, you may be right Ikarus because it involves all the various Winter Olympic sports, playing Arirang, and using geometric triangulars for athletes. Also I noticed that there's a TVR Moldova, which seems to me that it will be that channel serving Moldovans transmitting to their nation since both Romania and Moldova employ almost exactly the same language. Could TVR Moldova formerly be TRM there replacing Moldova 1 and Moldova 2? Just discovered TVR Moldova is aired in Moldova and was formerly TVR Cultura and left those two alone since TRM can't afford the Olympic broadcasting fee by themselves.

I noticed also it has the regular 30 second lenght and kind of follows the style they used for the intros of Nanjing and Lillehammer with the 3D figures.

Also, playing with the contrast levels in one of the last frames one can clearly see the OBS logo forming up.

How NBC News plans for being in Pyeongchang next month with The Peacock ruling things then with its Winter Olympics coverage:

http://deadline.com/2018/01/nbc-news-winter-olympics-coverage-pyeongchang-south-korea-2018-1202241945/

More further news about the host South Korean media on its Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics coverage plans that actually came earlier: We know about the UHD plans the three premier terrestrial TV networks got in store. The Winter Olympic sports are allotted there for broadcast. KBS is working to make UHD events for curling, MBC for ice hockey, and SBS for speed skating. A total of 10 events, including open / closing ceremonies, figure skating, ice skating, ice hockey and curling will be made available on UHD. SBS, the chief Olympic broadcaster, is in talks with OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Services) as a terrestrial representative. The three companies are also promoting a 360-degree VR game relay service that can be viewed as a VR device. SBS is also expanding its sports news. KBS is working on a Olympic-based TV programming and so is non-Olympic carrier Channel A. On the press side starting with the South Korean press agency Yonhap News Agency, look for press bots and Olympic newsletters

Quote

Yonhap News also announced plans to operate the Olympic news bots, which will automatically produce the Olympic Games breaking news last month. The Yonhap News Agency said, "Currently, we are writing a news bots for every game of English Premier League (EPL) through" SoccerBot ". It is a test concept to prepare the Olympics." During the Olympics, Will be collected and exported in the form of articles. We can write as many articles as we want, but we are still in the planning and coordination stage to figure out where to use the data. "

Some news media, including the Olympic Games, are strengthening reports. SBS has expanded its sports news section of '8 News' 200 days before the Olympics and has released or planned a program based on the Olympics in KBS, Channel A, etc. Gangwon-do, Min-Ilbo and other media outlets in Gangwon-do are also updating their news on the homepage with the menu of '2018 PyeongChang Olympics' separately. The Pyeongchang G-200, which is good as it is, and the Olympic Tour Road, are constantly being introduced to introduce the tourist attractions of Gangwon-do and to check whether the Olympic Games are well prepared.

Since August 2015, the Kangwon Ilbo publishes a monthly publication, '2018 Pyeongchang Newsletter', which conveys the news of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The Kangwon Ilbo said, "We are providing services in Korean and English through our homepage." We are delivering the news of the Olympic team and the national team vividly through the pages and the homepage. "

There are also media companies that hold related events for the Olympics. On May 5, Yonhap News opened 'China, China and Japan Photo Exhibition', which is the origin of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and exhibited news and photographs related to winter sports, culture and nature together with China Xinhua News Agency and Japan's Kyodo News Agency. The BBS also hosted the 'National Reconciliation Contest', which originated at the Lotte World Tower in Seoul on November 6.

More detail on Switzerland's SRG being the Olympic world feed producer of the Pyeongchang 2018 alpine skiing. Too bad the live skiing events will proceed late at night back in Switzerland. But the quality will remain great as usual with the use of 23 cameras:

No big shock that with NBC airing both the Super Bowl and the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics within several days of each other and while millions of us across the United States and Canada will enjoy the numerous commercials, Justin Timberlake performing at halftime, and some football from Minneapolis' US Bank Stadium (much preferably without those evil snakes in the grass from Foxboro involved in it!  won't get into it here), obviously we will witness a blitz of NBC Pyeongchang promotion with an emphasis on some of the lesser names ready to compete on the horizons on the top American instant TV money maker around. Seems perfect right?

Saw this weeks ago but didn't link this at the time because Olympic broadcasting developments in Denmark were still forming. Things are now rounding into shape as we get closer, and yes, more details are coming that will touch on. We know there's an allotting of what Winter Olympic sports Discovery's Eurosport and Danmark Radio each get to televise (and we can strongly suspect both will do likewise with Tokyo 2020). Now we know that DR will have DR1 and DR3 showing the OL with their distributed sports, and that there's two Danish Eurosport channels, the standard Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, and Eurosport Player but also the Discovery-owned Channel 5. If Denmark is involved, that automatically goes to DR. There at Eurosport, Signe Vadgaard is your person to present the coverage as the studio anchor, and she will tell the stories surrounding this event. Lene Nielsen is the Eurosport/Channel 5 curling expert for Pyeongchang 2018 and says Danish curling fans have a lot to be excited about coming up:

First Pyeongchang 2018 TV schedule that I spotted that's very much complete. Get your TVNorge/Eurosport Norge/Eurosport 1 Pyeongchang 2018 TV schedule direct from Norway. TV Norge doesn't join in until February 9. The pre-Opening Ceremony competition of mixed doubles curling, NH men's ski jumping, team figure skating, and freestyle skiing. Eurosport Norge won't go all Olympics, as you'll see, with golf and some UEFA Champions League. Carsten Skjelbreid and Anne Sturød will act as Eurosport's Norwegian studio hosts at Pyeongchang's IBC Olympic studios from 0:00-16:00 during the live Olympic programming. From 16-20:00, Eurosport Norge's highlights from the Olympic studio in Oslo co-hosted by Pål Gordon Nilsen and Susanne Furøy Wergeland:

HRT plans to show just more than the minimum 100 hours for the Winter Olympics from Pyeongchang 2018 for Croatia. HRT's Pyeongchang 2018 programming, likely coming on HTV2, will be divided into three parts given the time zone differences between Croatia and South Korea with live action coming from the early morning hours going in at 2:00 onwards to 15:00 Croatia time. But there will be a nice segment of daily recording of all events displayed in the afternoon from 16:45 to 20:00 for those who couldn't watch the live marathon due to work/school. A special daily broadcast summary of the most important Winter Olympic sports is scheduled at 22:30. Croatian Radio/HR will be there too:

Just now checking Iceland's RUV's TV Olympic schedule online from its website. Will be shown on both RUV and RUV 2 in Iceland but RUV gets the bulk of the coverage. Everything starts for them on February 9 with RUV showing the Opening Ceremony live at 11:00 Iceland time. Programming tends to broken up in segments. More details will come in a matter of a few days.

LTV7 undergoes the bobsledding, luge, and skeleton season for Latvians back home:

Also with SRF in Switzerland, its Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics coverage starts on February 8, all on SF2, with just the men's NH ski jumping at 13:25-14:40 CET and then returning 22:25-22:45 with Pyeongchang Aktuell news program with Rainer M. Salzgeber (usually will be at least 30 minutes at 10pm hour) with 50 minutes of Olympia Talk starting the next day at 23:10. And that's just the beginning.

BROADCASTING & CABLE: NBC SPORTS REGIONAL NETWORKS SEND TALENT TO 2018 PYEONGCHANG 2018 OLYMPICS

Korea Telecom (KT) supplies the scenic 390-people village of Euiyaji that's 15 minutes from Pyeongchang with the 5G wiring treatment. Wish we Americans have something like this nationwide very soon. Also details the plans 5G technology will be involved nearby in Pyeongchang like Time Slice:

So does this report straight from the official Pyeongchang 2018 website from Yonhap News about the upcoming 5G and ICT innovations KT brings forth:

Press release of the latest Eurosport Spain's Road To Pyeongchang episode centers on Paralympic champion alpine skiier Jon Sanatacana with a 2-part video interview of Spanish biathlete Victoria Padial accompanying this piece:

https://www.eurosport.es/juegos-olimpicos/pyeongchang/2018/rumbo-a-pyeongchang-la-epica-historia-del-esquiador-alpino-jon-santacana_sto6469056/story.shtml

I kind of figured that Ron MacLean and Don Cherry would be involved in the hockey coverage, but it makes sense for Kate Beirness to be hosting rather than Ron MacLean. That way, he doesn't miss any of the studio work on HNIC. The NHL conflicts really on apply with the late games out west, like Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, etc and even then, Rogers has enough channels for both NHL and Olympics.

CBC/RADIO-CANADA ANNOUNCES TELELATINO NETWORK AS AN OFFICIAL LICENSED BROADCASTER FOR PYEONGCHANG 2018 AND TOKYO 2020

Quote

CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s Olympic Network and IOC Rights Holding Broadcaster, today announced a partnership with Telelatino Network Inc. (TLN) that will make it possible for Canadians to enjoy coverage of the Olympic Games in more languages. TLN has been named an Official Licensed Broadcaster for coverage of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Through the partnership with CBC/Radio-Canada, TLN will offer coverage of the next two Olympic Games in Italian and Spanish, as well as in Portuguese for Tokyo 2020.

“CBC/Radio-Canada is pleased to welcome TLN to our Olympic Games coverage plans through this unique partnership,” said Greg Stremlaw, executive director, CBC Sports and general manager, Olympics. “Providing coverage of the Olympic Games hockey tournament to Canadians in even more languages further extends a key cultural connection and increases the inclusivity of our coverage.”

During PyeongChang 2018, TLN will provide Canadians access to one game per day from the men’s or women’s ice hockey tournament in two languages (Italian and Spanish) as well as daily encore broadcasts in prime time and daily highlights from the Olympic Games.

TLN’s coverage from PyeongChang 2018 will begin Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7 a.m. ET with coverage of the women’s hockey game featuring Switzerland vs. South Korea and will culminate with the men’s gold medal match on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 p.m. ET.

Not really that curious.  When they hired him a few months ago, they noted he would likely contribute to their Olympic coverage.  Especially considering the connections between NASCAR and bobsledding (and Earnhardt's apparent interest in the sport), this shouldn't really be a surprise.

Makes sense actually. Because both NASCAR and bobsledding (and for that matter luge and skeleton) all deal with speed to a significant degree as that connection, something Earnhardt Jr. definitely knows some things or two about. Furthermore, Dale Earnhardt Jr. can serve that ex-athlete-turned-Olympic correspondent/analyst role on-location that Chris Collinsworth served in providing insight and remain fascinated about elite-level athletes in the Olympics, which has become a growing portfolio worldwide with the bigger broadcasters like Laurent Duvernay-Tardif at Radio-Canada.

Meghan Kelly: Not going to Pyeongchang this February but staying home. Big name NBC News and NBC Sports personnel, like the entire NBC Today team, typically do head out to the Olympic host city, except for health concerns/issues like Savannah Gutrie. Even as she's the highest-paid NBC employee. But so are Kathy Lee Gifford and Jenna Bush Hager. Little embarassing:

BBC Sport reveals more of its Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics broadcasting plans with Jonny Bramley as Sports Tech Live kicks things off for SVG & SVG Europe that was planned for three years. It's be an average of 19 hours daily on both BBC1 and BBC2 during those 17 days with a 24/7 Red Button channel, BBC iPlayer replayer, and the Beeb generating multiple video clips online and social media sourced from TV and edited. Production set-ups will be divided between being on-location in Pyeongchang with lots of space at the IBC to conduct a lot and back at the BBC's MediaCity UK in Salford, England in generating the output with three editors. Avid and EVS systems will be used but no "cost-prohibitive" ISO cameras and will just rely on the OBS with ensuring focus on Team GB wherever they play like in curling with multiple fields. Plus making it all available to all BBC platforms and BBC Nations and Regions. Also...

Quote

The main presentation in the UK daytime (0915-2000) will be from a studio in MediaCityUK. During the Pyeongchang daytime (0000-0915 GMT) presentation will originate from an apartment in PyeongChang. One camera will be used, which can also operate using RF in the Alpensia resort. A small Yamaha DM1000 sound desk will be used on site for remote mixing integration. The gallery in Salford will add the branded BBC Sport presentation graphics including name supers, results, programme trails and additional creative elements. These graphics will be inserted using a standard Viz platform...

Coverage details:

BBC Sport online will live stream all the key moments in HD to desktops, tablets, mobiles and Connected TVs, with audiences also able to watch live on BBC iPlayer or via the Red Button

BBC Sport online will also offer on-demand video clips, live reporting and analysis so that audiences can catch-up with the Games at any time by visiting the website or downloading the BBC Sport mobile or tablet app.

Clare Balding, Hazel Irvine, Eilidh Barbour and Radzi Chinyanganya will front the live TV coverage

We're likely aren't going to see Australia's Seven Network's Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics broadcasting details until sometime when the Australian Open in Melbourne, Victoria winds down enough even before the finals with much of its sports focus there; it's one of its annual sports anchor events on the network. Safe bet, as judging from the just-release info on Australian terrestrial broadcasting's debut with the Paralympics, we will see 7MATE and 7TWO getting involved like with Rio 2016. Have to do within two weeks. More likely by sometime next week.

While the BBC planned theirs 3 years as just now mentioned, Croatia's HRT planned for 1.5 years ago with prepping intensified 8 months ago. Viki Ivanovic will be among the 13 sportscasters with an additional 20 people back in Zagreb with this time electing not taking up space at the IBC or even camera crews with editing back in Zagreb. Feed that HRT will use is entirely from the OBS:

Poland's TVP channels will not be available on MUX-8 in time for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics but more likely closer to the World Cup in June:

A YLE overview reminder on how the YLE coverage this time around dealing with Discovery in the form of TV5 is presented for Pyeongchang 2018 for Finland, where it was previously exclusive to YLE. YLE broadcasts the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics on YLE's TV2, TV1, Yle Speech and YLE Vega on the radio, and Yle Areena online. YLE's total number of Olympic broadcasts is about 650 hours on the television and the Arena side. YLE Speech is about 200 hours and about 25 hours for YLE Vega. Swedish language will actually be present despite earlier mentioning to the contrary. Just only on the radio at YLE Vega and not on the since-merged YLE Fem (now YLE Theema & Fem since last spring). Again, not only Olympic men's hockey, Finland's most lucrative Winter Olympic sport, will not appear on TV2 (but hockey games can be transmitted on YLE Speech radio), nor can it present Olympic-related TV programming between 19-21:00 Finland time. Not even online with its Areena's 5 Olympic streams. Nonetheless even without men's ice hockey YLE's coverage is comprehensive for Pyeongchang 2018; Tokyo 2020 will be even more favorable for the Finnish public broadcaster in broadcasting and online with so many events it'll have and perhaps TV5 taking just track and field.

Why no Swedish TV coverage in Finland on YLE  this time? All part of YLE's plan to negotiate the best deal for it while maintaining responsible spending. Without men's hockey in terms of involvement for YLE. YLE will also send fewer employees to Pyeongchang this time than in the previous Winter Olympics in Sochi with 70 people going. The Olympics will interrupt TV2's normal programming during the daytime, morning, and late night but some programming will go on like UEAF Champions League and New Day. Speaking of YLE Theema & Fem, Pikku Kakkonen returns to the Olympics as a leading studio anchor in Pyeongchang, South Korea during YLE TV2's morning and afternoons coverage segment coming from that channel just like in Rio De Janeiro. This time with the Discovery negotiations, Swedes and Norwegians can't get access to the YLE footage this time:
